My 24 year old son visits Manhattan Tuesday for a couple of days. Anyone know of something cool for him to do/see besides the usual?

It's his first time to America and he's very excited as you can imagine. He's heading off to a 4th July birthday party in Philly with friends he's met through X Box live. I know, what's the world coming to. We did it over bikes not game consoles, lol. And no he's not into bikes! He's a classically trained chef and loves his food.....hello New York City.......he's gonna be coming home a few pounds heavier me thinks : ) They're gonna need a bigger plane!

TIA

IDK how long he is there for but The Intrepid museum is a great starting point because there is the NY waterway free bus red/white/blue that run continuously throughout points in the city easy to figure out The Intrepid is also walking distance to times square and Rockefeller center which is round the corner from St. Patrick's Cathedral. Then a bus ride to the lower east side for the Pier and a cool drink on the east river at the pier which is walking distance from wall street the freedom tower and the Ear Inn for bike night!!! Have a great trip either way.

I was going to recommend the Bridge Cafe at the Manhattan end of the Brooklyn Bridge, but Sandy did a number on the oldest commercial wooden building (a former brothel and pirate hangout) in the City...

Empire State Building, all the way to the top 106 stories?

The Staten Island Ferry is a FREE ride across New York Harbor. Go to Battery Park to hop aboard.

On a sunny, weekend day, Central Park is an absolutely beautiful place to be and it is teaming with life.

I like the Circle Tour + check out some of the boats along the waterfront.

New York was once an manufacturing & shipping center and vestiges remain along the waterfronts.

Walking around downtown - the streets, the parks, the high line park in Chelsea (west side, in the 20's area); the west side promenade along the waterfront, Battery Park, the Staten Island ferry mentioned above, rent a bike (NYC has a public bike rental program) if it's a weekend especially, and use all the new bike lanes everywhere, ride thru central park, along the Hudson River on the west side, all around TriBeCa downtown; cool new happenings on the west side in the old meat packing district; Canal Street and into Chinatown & Little Italy; SoHo streets and the beautiful cast-iron loft buildings (I like SoHo better during the week than weekend, because the tourists cram it full on weekends). Greenwich Village, meandering the streets.

Thank you everyone. All of the above are being done as much as he can do!

And Court thank you for the private contact info. It's very reassuring to know you're there for me and my boy. I'm touched by your caring nature. I truly am. Hopefully he's got things under control, lol.

For a few weeks leading up to him going I didn't realise he'd be in America on the 4th July until last week when my boy, Harley's his name, told me the girl friend he's visiting in Philly, well her boyfriend celebrates his birthday on the 4th too and Harl's an invite to the party. How cool is that! A 4th of July birthday party for a young englishman in America, as it's Harl's 24th the same week! I just hope they crack out the guitars and get my boy jamming.

Thanks everyone again : )
