One of my riding pals is in the market for an intercom device for rides with her bf. Scala and uclear are on her shortlist. I have only dealt with blue tooth enabled devices and on a limited basis when I worked at a dealership. If anyone is familiar with either system please post up with pros n cons. Oh and happy fathers day to all you badweb dads! Thc. B. |

Go with Sena. http://www.sena.com/ I have the SMH10 and can't give it enough praise. It just works. If you are wanting more bells and whistles though there is now the Sena SMH20. |

Uclear is the price point leader and performance probably reflects that. Can link up to two devices no problem. I don't have three devices with Bluetooth so I can't vouch for any issues with more connections. I would say sound quality is okay, good volume and clear which is good for voice, but not much bass if you want to listen to tunes. Three button control is pretty easy to use with gloves on plus you get a feedback beep to let you know you did something. If you google the brands I think you'll find some youtube videos that do a feature and quality comparison to help sort out what you're looking for. |

Love my Scala, and good bike-to-bike range as well as BT and iPod input jack. |

I've owned the Scale Q2 for a few years now and it is great. The rider to rider communication works pretty well and the B.T. communication with the phone works great. |

I have 3 generations of Scala units (Q2, G4, G9). They all are awesome. While the G9 has the most features, the range is not as good as the G4 based on my real world experience, despite the G9 having better specs. Either way the Scala units are awesome and easy to use. I do highly recommend them. |

I got the scala g9 and have never had them connect in intercom mode. Does the antenna need to be up with connecting? I can get them to play music via bluetooth. |

The antenna on the unit is for intercom mode, it will work down but they claim putting it up improves the range. Maybe the antenna in mine is broken or something, they claim up to 1 mile range, yet on open interstate I estimate I was having issues at about 1/4 of a mile. I've gone further with the older units even with trees and other things to interfere. There is a new model, the G9X, but I can't justify buying it yet to see if it fixed my issue. The wire connecting the two speakers is the FM antenna, so it is recommended you run it over the top of the helmet, not around the rear, and bluetooth functions without any external antenna. |

Something else for the Sena. You don't have to buy a new model for issues to be fixed. They actually update their software which you can download and load onto the device. Sena has been amazing in it's continued support and standing behind their products. |

Very true about the Scala series too, they have had substantial firmware updates fixing issues and adding features. |

I have a Scala G4 on my helmet and my wife rides with my old Q2. Both work well. Sent the Q2 in to Scala for warranty repair a few years ago. They were super helpful and provided fast turn around. |
