Just curious, i participated as a old harley guy in a thread lately and after mazda b2500 turned 200000 miles today, does that make me a old mazda guy as well? Just asking!

When I was a kid, it was a big deal that a car was past 100K.
Nowadays, we EXPECT them to last that long.

Another example: My 1979 XLH needed a top end done at about 55,000. When it was opened, the shop found it was already on the third oversize piston.
Both Buells I have show no sign of top end failure with 88K on the X1 and about 50K on the uly.

In conclusion, the good old days sucked!

Nah, that just makes you a cheap SOB. Seriously though, what year is it? Did you at least have to rebuild the seat cushion?

My son-in-law owns a used car lot in Denver and I'm amazed at the number of cars they sell with 120k or more on the clock.

I needed to replace my 90 Ford Ranger that had 280,000 miles that I use every day for my work. So I bought new to me a 2003 F 150 that had 106,000 miles and I plan on using it till it has 300,000. 40 years ago I would not have dreamed of doing that.

I've got 260k on my '92 Cherokee...and 225k on my '01 Ram diesel.

I should probably do a valve adjustment on the Ram sometime... ; )

I try and get the coolest car I can get for $1000 for every 10,000 miles (without excessive maintenance costs).

It's hard, but its doable. CRX-SI did it from 60k used until I sold it cheap with 150k miles. Saturn SC2 did it from new when I sold it cheap with 170k miles. Saab 2001 9-3 did it when I bought it used at 90k miles. Current 2006 Saab 9-3 V6 turbo should do it (bought at 45k miles for $9000, so it has to go a total of about 150k miles for me to "win").

The Uly will make it if I can get it to 60,000 miles (bought it for $5000 with 10k miles on it). Motorcycles are hard to stretch that far.

My younger son just scored a 92 Ford Taurus with only 60,000 on the clock. Selling price? $2000.

I have a 05 RAV4 with 132,000 on it. I want to trade it for a pickup truck but can't justify it in my mind. When the Rav has 230,000 we'll talk. Till then, change the oil and air filter and just drive the thing.

I used to have a 92 taurus and I drove it into the ground. At 170k I donated it to the Kidney Foundation. Only thing I ever changed was the brakes and regular maintenance. That car had a bad habit of self destructing the front brakes (pads, rotors, calipers) if you ever had to do an emergency panic stop, which I had to do twice. I bought it from my F-I-L for $3k, but he never cashed our checks because he felt guilty about not maintaining it. We bought it with 60k on it and as I was donating it he told me he only changed the oil twice before he sold it to us...

My 1975 FJ40 has not hit 100K yet, but the engine only has ~20k on it. Run in with a neighborhood drug dealer and a quart of sandblasting beads necessitated a new engine (not just a rebuild). The wife gave him a broken nose for our troubles (it's actually her truck). Took him down in the middle of our little town and left him bleeding in the road. The witnesses verified that he fell off the curb...

My Sportster has about 70k on it, 30k with the Stroker motor.

We've also put just over 120k on 2 different Subaru Outbacks. Donated them to the Kidney Foundation as well.

My last pickup was a 99 Tacoma. Bought it out of a lease program with 29,000 on it. My son (yes the one who laid my Suzuki down) wrapped it around a tree in March of 2009. It had 170,000 miles and the only repair was an alternater, belt, front rotars, and an O2 sensor. I'd still be driving it if it was in one piece.

On the other hand my 2009 Uly is barely broken in at 20,000 miles.

Gotta Mazda MX-5 with 300k. Bought it in 2000 for 5k with 52k miles. And a Vulcan 750 with about 50k miles, Got it with 30k (freebie) but needed tires and charging system. Runs like a top after I did a little work to her.

My 2004 is starting to rust. I was thinking....
What do you think the likelihood that some junkyard in SC would have non rusty body parts.
Probably easier to just buy a newer truck, eh?

Car-parts.com can point you in the right direction for rust free parts. I have a work relationship with LKQ and order my rust free stuff, most recently a filler neck for the Ranger, from the southwest. Pretty good luck so far.
