After some prodding from coworkers I finally completed my 1911 rebuild project. Some may remember, it fell out on the highway and was run over, destroying the frame as well as several small components.

These pistols are assembled from oversized components and require extensive fitting. This was no exception. I'll not bore everyone with the details, so here 'tis:

Initial file strokes on the beavertail:

Final fitting before sanding:

I love tweaking stuff, but hate making repairs on stuff that's broke. It turned out quite nice. It's no looker but is smooth and tight.

Definitely worth the effort.

Nicely done resurrection. I apologize for earlier doubt that the project was worth it. It is.

My favorite 1911a1grips too.

Repairing it wasn't very logical. I put another $400 towards devaluing what was a $700 pistol. A replacement gun with comparable features would have been in the $1000 vicinity but would not have been as precisely fitted.

My main goal was to make the most of what was salvageable while building a better gun than what I started with. It's worth little in resale value but still means a lot to me. When it gets passed down there'll be a story to go with it.

Well done. I imagine you would always have regretted not building your Phoenix out of the ashes......

A story for your heirs to be sure.

Thanks.

Did a one round test fire. Sure sounds loud on a quiet mid day afternoon. It worked perfectly and felt incredibly smooth.

I can't wait to have some real fun with it.
