Thank you Ulywife. I finally got correspondence regarding the rejection and found out basically I'm too high risk. I was disciplined (written counseling) in 2012, and have a traffic ticket in 2012 and 2013. I would say I'm shocked, but now that I look at it from an outside view, I guess I can see their point. Anyhow, time to move forward! |

Malott442- unfortunately since Alabama is a right to work state your employer can fire you for any reason as long as they have clear policies and they can prove they are abiding by them. Hopefully you have an employee handbook. If I was in your spot I would seriously consider consulting with an attorney that specializes in employment law before deciding whether to quit or be terminated. I get how stressful this time is for you and your family. When you start interviewing for other jobs be honest with them about what things will pop up in your background checks-but don't volunteer that info until you are sure it seems like a good fit. You want them to really want you on board first to the point that they can make an exception if needed. And I have found that smaller firms tend to be more lenient with making exceptions. Good luck! |

I guess I should give an update on my situation, since a LOT has transpired since my last communication. I spoke with Ulywife, and made the decision to apply. I also applied to several other places. With several offers on the table, I ultimately decided to wear the Crown shirt. Crown is a family owned business with an emphasis on family.... And I got a genuine good gut feeling about it. So I packed my stuff, moved in with my sister in Florida, and got to work. My wife and child stayed behind to get the house ready to sell. I worked my butt off, and was really enjoying being near my family. I had a nice customer base, and was content with doing what I did. But that came to pass. I saw an opening for a supervisor job, and applied. I ended up not getting it, but I was asked to interview for a brand new position in the company. My wife moved down in March, and I started the interview process for the new job the following month. After 2.5 interviews, a personality test, and a background check, I was offered a position. I turned in my van and uniform, and now wear a shirt and tie. I travel 33%, and cover support for three branches here in Florida. I essentially provide support and build product utilization and expertise of the customers, technicians, and support staff. The products are our new technology assets and concepts. My job is to help build the company's future in the industry. Exciting and terrifying at once, since everything I do will the the example to my successors. I'm either a hero or zero, no in between. Looking back, I can't believe how much my life (and I) have changed. I've gone from feeling underutilized to extremely challenged in one year. From depressed to stressed for success. From being happy in the hills and curves of the Appalachian foothills, to bored and complacent in the tropical straightaways of Florida. Two out of three isn't bad! Thanks to everyone that gave advice, and thanks for listening. I'm hoping the next year will be even more exciting! I have another daughter due in January, and I will be making myself available for international work. Which means I will either: 1. Start assisting with installs and testing in South America, Australia, etc. 2. Relocating for a 3 year commitment to one of our factory store supported countries: Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania, Germany, UK, Spain, or? Exciting times to come, indeed. |

Great Post I hope it's going well. Where did you decide to go to? I hope there's some good riding where ever you decided to go. |
