Seriously, this is a bigger subject than can be addressed with fullness on an internet forum.

The Libertarian in me says legalize it all, make the profit motive for Big Crime go away, and we'll deal with the problems after that.

The old fart in me doesn't want more Cocaine, Meth, and "synthetic" crap out there than we have now.

The practical guy in me knows that a market will get it's demand filled. That more repressive, even barbaric drug laws has not ever solved the problem. Look at Saudi Arabia where they whip, then behead you, for drug dealing. Does not stop it. Makes the policeman's job harder, as given a choice of death by Headsman or the possibility of escape, why not try?

In New York, the "Rockefeller" drug laws made selling an ounce of heroin a crime equal to murder, as far as punishment went. I was taking a high school law class at the time, and we got to read the law before it was passed. Our take, that unfortunately turned out to be the case, was that if shooting a cop got you no more time in prison than selling heroin, it made no sense not to shoot the cop. ( this was before, and the Reason for, reinstating the Death Penalty for shooting a cop. ) The murder rate of police more than doubled the year after the laws were enacted. It's still not safe to bust drug dealers.

Which gets us to the case at hand.

We have an out of control black market in drugs, well financed, massive bribery and corruption in the police dept.'s across America, and having a Prez that has bragged about his own Cocaine use doesn't help the education part of any anti-drug effort.

You tell a high school kid that he shouldn't do drugs, and he'll just laugh at you, since he probably has a portrait of the President Of The United States on his bedroom wall. If Barry can do it and be President, why shouldn't I?

from the point of view of a "normal" citizen, it's just insane that you have to live in fear of a band of jack booted, masked, armored, machine gun toting troops, that will smash down your door while you sit on the can, shoot your dog, kick your cat, beat up your grandmother, and throw you in a squad car half naked, to wait in public for hours while they determine that, "oops, wrong house" and you don't have kilos of Crack in your bedroom.

Worse is if you are slow answering the door and they lead off with teargas, that ( every time ) sets your house on fire.

Worse still is the same "police" using the same tactics, and you go to jail for months, on a weapons charge. Could be a bb gun. In one should be famous case, in D.C. it was a dud shotgun shell.

Not a shotgun. No guns. One, dud, shotgun shell.

The "drug war" gave the police and the public the mentality and the sheeple attitude that this can happen in America.

It has to stop.

The point is to make everyone a criminal in order to control the masses. Example is being made of Phil Mickleson over his on air comments about dear leader!
What better way to build and finance the brownshirts in a way the public supports
Inside every liberal there is a Totalitarian trying to get out!

I think he is referring to someone who was arrested in DC with a spent shotgun shell in his trunk. Apparently that is a felony in DC. Stupid crazy law!

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/03/28/former-dc-res ident-found-guilty-for-violating-city-gun-laws-for -owning-fake/

Not related to the Drug war, except it's a totalitarian thing people now accept, where before this would get outrage.

And it deserves outrage.

It's just a guy in trouble for utter bull crap, not equal to police tossing a grenade in a crib.

I was thinking of this case...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/jan/20/dc -businessman-trial-one-shotgun-shell-wasnt-given/? page=all

quote:

Mr. Witaschek told me this week, “Since the night my home was invaded and family terrorized by a militarized D.C. police force, I am more afraid of what government is doing than I am of any of the people I encountered when I spent the night in jail.”
