N.Y. Congressman Grimm Paid Off Books, Lied U.S. Says
Allegedly, this d-bag runs a restaurant and paid his employees under the table to cheat on taxes.
He says it's a political ploy and lies all lies.
Now, I have no idea how a dude named Grimm won an election. I have no idea how a Republican won an election in NYC, and I have no idea if he's guilty, or not.
If he is guilty, he ripped off a lot of people, including everyone who pays taxes even if they are unhappy about how much and how badly spent. He should go to prison for a long time.
If he's not, the people that lied about him should go to prison for a Longer time.
It's been a while since I read the 10 Commandments. I don't remember any of them saying "thou shalt pay thine taxes" although some dude from Bethlehem made a point about it not being against his religion to do so.
I DO remember one about bearing false witness. So if you believe in the Bible, If others are lying about this D-bag (R) they are going to go to hell, and deserve every second of their eternity. I do doubt they will get one second of jail time.
Some leftists are really upset that the GOP candidate in this race is Gay!
As I've said before, I don't care what happens between consenting adults, and if the guy next to me "on the barricades" is a good shot, I'll load for him. No matter his choice of bed partner.
This guy looks like a very good choice.
In his first term he works across party lines and four years after his first election he passes major pension reform that saves the city money and protects the retirement savings of thousand of people.
The idea that he has better interior decorating skills than I do has no bearing on my support for a fellow that can do the above.
I've read a little about the Grimm thing. The timing of this seems very questionable. From what I understand they waited until he was on the ballot to press charges, and can't take him off the ballot until he is found guilty. So the Republicans are stuck with a guy on the ballot that is accused of a crime, but won't have a trial finished until after the election. Convenient! They had better get a conviction. If the magically drop the charges, the election should be considered null and void. They are ignoring bigger fish with worse crimes right now. Time will tell a lot about if this is politically motivated.
They second bit just goes to show the blatant hypocrisy of the Democrats. They should be happy to see the guy running, even if they don't agree with his politics. Am I surprised?
Grimm is the guy who was on video threatening to throw a reporter off the balcony if he ever challenges him again. Seems like a great guy. Just another narcissistic d-bag that has made it to Washington. Next!
Full disclosure. I'm not a death penalty fan. The death penalty is a separate argument, and I won't go into it now.
I think we can all agree that IF you want to execute someone, it's something that should be done in the most humane manner.
Why? because while revenge is certainly one compelling/regrettable reason for execution, we don't want to stain our own souls with cruelty.
We've beheaded people with swords, axes, Guillotines, etc. If done quickly, should be relatively painless.
Shot people in firing squads, ( good to crappy results, depending on skill ) and the "back of the head" method is still the most popular in places like China.
I think we can skip the Muslim "crushed by heavy rocks" for gays and I personally condemn the classic Biblical middle eastern "throw rocks at them, breaking bones until they bleed to death or the skull is crushed". Sure, it's fun for the village and it's always nice to expose the kids to new things.... but I'm not a fan.
Crucifixion, while still in use ( Not in Rome anymore, but in the Muslim Medieval World ) is sorta the definition of cruel. It was, after all, invented to intimidate people by being the most publicly horrible way to die.
The Gas Chamber seems cruel to me as the long time involved and the whole choking you lungs out thing.... nasty.
The Electric chair was invented by Tom Edison to discredit Nicola Tesla's alternating current. Works like crap, and should have been outlawed long ago.
Lethal Injection? As practiced a few years ago, a horribly cruel method. Now that the original torture murder chemicals are harder to get, substituting stupider and crueler ones isn't helping.
If they used Morphine or Heroin, it would be the most humane way yet, but there seems to be some character flaw in the people that decide which drug to kill people with.
But the electric chair?
How about we just give them their last rights and a bottle of Oxicontin & Jack Daniels instead?
Patrick, you left out hanging... Or drowning (she's not a witch after all!) Or burning at the stake (or is it steak, in some South Pacific island cultures?)
Thrown from a height, trash compactor, or Saddam's favorite, wood chipper, golly we are inventive at using technology to make our lives better, aren't we?
I suppose that if you consider the Death Penalty as a deterrent, it shouldn't be something to be desired, ( like being sexed to death by Playboy Playmates ) And there really is no reason to insist on uniform rules, state to state.
I just think Lethal injection as done today is bad. Really really bad.
It's ironic that the 280,000 deaths per year attributed to medical mistakes seem to be pretty innocuous ("he died on the table", or "he got the wrong IV") that we can't manage to pave the road out a little better than what we now do...
Deterrent? Some peoples' lives are so miserable that most welcome any exit that they don't have to initiate. But J.D. and Oxy? Pretty painless...
Oh there are many many ways of killing people in the name of the state or religion. (One of the reasons I'm agnostic, I can't believe in any Deity that would let such things happen in his name. But that's a whole 'nother thread.)
After all is said & done, Man is the most inhuman of creatures is he not.
If there is a way to turn people to ashes in a couple milliseconds I would vote for that. I think there is a portable chamber in tree clearing industry that burns over 2k degrees or so that turns items to ashes very fast. Size of a large dumpster.
Seems strange to me... for people to try and find "humane" way to kill/execute/abort someone's life who deserves it...yet we still kill/execute/abort completely innocent babies.
We could go back to using horses to have the drawn and quartered. That's pretty close to what is done in an abortion. It does lack the crushing of the skull though.
If it's good enough for the unborn, it should be good enough for our most vile criminals.
theres a Monty Python skit about being chased off a cliff by a band of marauding topless running girls Its NSFW - but classic Monty
worth the trip down the youtuble
(Washington state had an inmate petition against hanging, as he was too fat for the tensil strength of the rope to give him a quick and painless death... or so said his lawyer)
Sifo. That stepstool doesn't have the required warning labels to tell that man not to stand on the top step!
Must be a tea party group to leave the area that clean.
The designated free speech zone with heavy fencing & armed troops to protect the voters from discordant ideas........ nowhere to be seen. Just like today. Must be a few blocks away.
Sifo not only are those drugs addictive....... I'd skip the legally required alcohol swab to prevent infection!
How barbaric is that?
I'm generally anti-death penalty. "When government can take back mistakes I'll be for it" Illinois last I looked had a 16% rate of innocents convicted. There's a structural problem there. Not sure the percentages in Chicago vs. The State.
Do not like my government thinking it's ok to kill people except for very special reasons.
On the pro side........
Rome thought long prison terms inhumane. Better to just kill a criminal. I can see that view. Method of execution otoh wasn't the faux sensitive idiocy of today. Also their reality shows were not scripted and the lions mostly won against unarmed convicts.
But no one who has a freaking clue thinks that lethal injection with the crap they use today is more humane than hanging.
I'm also on record as suggesting not arresting rapists caught in the act. But that's not pro death penalty......that's pro vigilante.
