Hey guys, figured I would ask and see if anyone else has had a similar problem and found something that works. I just recently added a gate to my driveway. so now I find myself with two remotes in my pocket. one for the garage door and the other for the gate. I am looking for a small key fob sized remote that I can program to both garage and gate but one issue I can foresee is that the garage has a rolling code and the gate is fixed. would like key fob size so I can just keep it on me. thought about just getting more remotes and sticking them in different vehicles or bikes but that adds. I have started the google and amazon search but not finding anything that is a perfect fit right away. hoping at least one of you guys has had a similar issue. | ||

I have 3 rolling code openers and a single universal 3-button (and I also have all 3 programmed into my jeep's homelink buttons). When shopping for remotes it asked what color the program button was on the opener (all mine are the same manufacturer but 2 different models), and I got a remote that worked with the colors I have. That may be a bigger obstacle for you, manufacturer differences. | ||

Cataract2- that bluetooth set up looks cool but it may be a pain to pull the phone out and use the app on a bike. Rat- you may be right I have 2 different garage door openers and then the gate is a third Not to concerned with the one door but would differently like the bike side of the garages door to work. the hunt continues! Tq_freak: If you go to your local HD store, they sell a device you can hook up to your bike so when you come up to the gate, you flash your highbeam(s)...you know, the "flash to pass" button. At least that will get you inside your gate. I'll bet if you go down to the HD store, somebody there has a solution. You can't be the only biker with this problem, a gate and garage door to ride through. Ride on brother  | ||

A friend of mine has a gate, and went through a series of different universal remotes, never finding one that worked well. He ended up putting external receivers on the gate and the garage doors. These receivers all use the same remote. They operate the garage doors and gate as if you had hit the open/close switch that's on the wall. He's digging up the info on them. I'll post it when I get it. | ||

I've got a keyfob remote for the bike, and our new car has built in universal buttons that turn on lights and open doors. It will even operate the deadbolt on the door going from the garage into the kitchen. HOWEVER, that bluetooth thing looks really cool as a backup method. Going to have to hack me up one of those receivers. | ||

The opener "learns" the remote,not the remote"learns" the opener(Craftsman anyways). I have a handful of remotes that all open three different doors on three separate garages with the same big button and turns off/on the lights with the middle button....so a single remote with each vehicle does it all. A couple of times,it got a bug and one of the 3 exterior remote key pads stops working. After relearning the opener to the key pad,then all the openers have to be relearned to the hand remotes. | ||

"After relearning the opener to the key pad,then all the openers have to be relearned to the hand remotes." This is the kind of thing my friend grew tired of dealing with. It was just never stable. The solution I noted above has worked great for him, and at $30, is pretty darn cheap too. Possibly on par with buying a universal remote that understands all the different "learning button" or security types for different devices. |
