Either this topic has run its course or the past two days events, east Ukraine haven't surfaced on US networks?

The propaganda machine ever busy in the UK. That's for sure. RT News shows several different reports from around the region. Ukrainian military on the ground with tanks dispatched to some locations, seem to be under no orders to fight or attack anyone. Both UK and RT news report handful of deaths on both sides. Both sides state 'unconfirmed'. Reported, some Ukrainian military changing sides. Video showing tank commander addressing his command shouting "we are with the people now". UK mainstream feeds have this as pro-Russian forces captured some tanks and went for a spin to show off their spoils.

Putin's Q&A today. Controlled, informative, polite, and most of all, inviting to the western leaders.

Obama, meanwhile ramps up NATO forces in all regions close to Russian border. Threatens more sanctions. Adds more Russian's to a growing list of suspended accounts and travel bans.

The people of Ukraine will be the pawns in the middle of yet another pointless power struggle between the USA and Russia, and nobody wil come out as a winner.

What are you talking about? Russia is nothing more than a victim of the evil United States.

* Everyone knows that the United States sent troops, helicopters, and tanks into the Crimea for the purpose of annexation.
* Everyone knows that the United States snipered Ukrainian citizens in the streets of Kiev.
* Everyone knows that the United States is occupying buildings in Eastern Ukraine to foment a rebellion.
* Everyone knows that the United States is about to invade and annex Eastern Ukraine.
* Everyone knows that the United States will soon do the same to the Baltics.
* Everyone knows that the United States is bullying poor, poor Russia.

Thank you for clearing this up. I was mistaken and thought Russia was doing this.
Winston Smith is very proud of you.

* Everyone knows that the United States sent troops, helicopters, and tanks into the Crimea for the purpose of annexation.

Nope - Russia already had troops, helicopters, and tanks in Crimea. Not utilised for annexation.

* Everyone knows that the United States snipered Ukrainian citizens in the streets of Kiev.

No one knows except those that aren't admitting it. US points finger at Russia - weight of evidence suggests US meddling.

* Everyone knows that the United States is occupying buildings in Eastern Ukraine to foment a rebellion.

I didn't know that. I thought it was eastern Ukrainians - ordinary folk, taking some control of their regional corridors of power.

* Everyone knows that the United States is about to invade and annex Eastern Ukraine.

I think you meant to say, under the guise of NATO of course. And you'd be right.

* Everyone knows that the United States will soon do the same to the Baltics.

If you mean the ex Russian Baltic regions, under NATO they already are.

* Everyone knows that the United States is bullying poor, poor Russia.

Everyone as in every free thinker outside of America you mean. In which case yes they do.

Thank you for clearing this up. I was mistaken and thought Russia was doing this.

Look back to why the people in Eastern Ukraine now feel disenfranchised and want to align themselves with Russia? Because the west (including the USA tried to get the Ukrainian government to join Nato and abandon the traditional links with Russia, and a large majority of the population still feel that they are Russian.

If the US is not involved in a power struggle with Russi why is Obama threatening more sanctions and military action?

Of course I include most of the western 'democracies' (including our lot- although I don't remember being asked for my vote on this)in with the US side in this struggle, as our government also seems hell bent on wasting more young lives in a pointless war.

it really doesn't matter who is to blame for starting this trouble, what we need to do is remain calm and NOT start a war that will just end up in a ruined country and lots of dead people, and NOBODY will win.

Sorry but Russia would chew you up and blow you out in bubbles.

For starters, What are you going to use for money ?

China is on the Russian side in case you have your head in the sand, so no money from them.

Currently, In Africa, the war is such that they are eating their enemies flesh after battle.

Why not focus on sorting that out for a worthy cause.

Russia does not play by the same rules as Europe and the US - it is not about equipment, or troop count; they simply strategize different than we do - they always have. It is why if we go - we are going to be shit faced embarassed and out classed for about four months; we are arrogant, and think we know better, best, ultimate.... the problem is - our current leader is playing checkers - on Putin's Chess board.

You have a college druggie with sealed academic records that became a community organizer and thug in chief

(and this says nothing of our fighting forces - it is all political - because you know troops would not be allowed to go in and fight a battle based on Generals own agenda - we never have this nor last century)

Here's a take on how the US and NATO is at fault for not taking Russian seriously.

Hillary's staff's incompetence and ignorance is a continuation of this trend. Kerry's bombast and idiocy? More arrogant Obama "diplomacy".

At least when the Evil Bush was putting anti-missile systems in Poland and was bringing the former Soviet buffer zone conquered states into the "western sphere" they had a clue. Might have been wrong, but they had a clue.

Tradition. When they kill the Jews you know it's going to get bad. That's been a sign since before Rome. Blaming the Jews, that's tradition too. I think the Sumarians started that one.

"Tradition". After all, it's not Russia without burning out some Jews, right?

http://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/russia-th e-us-and-the-future/

Peggy Noonan has much to say about the future of US Russian relations. Noonan: The Bear That Talks Like a Man https://www.google.com/#q=Noonan+bear+that+talks+l ike+a+man+wsj Her point is that we had odd relations with Russia in the time of Charles Francis Adams, in the times of John Hay and Teddy Roosevelt, and here we are again. In between was the Cold War.

But Europe has changed a lot: much of it our doing. Germany remains a great power, and the French still fear them: they want a US Army over there to sit on Fritz, as one French diplomat put to me a few years ago. Meanwhile we built a network of alliances against Russia once we were finally committed to the Cold War, then foolishly tried to extend it when the USSR collapsed. I am more and more convinced that what we should have done was get out of NATO when the USSR collapsed. HATO’s work was done; the Communist world threat was ended; and we could safely allow Europe to solve its own problems while we turned back to making money and living our quiet lives of freedom, building our City on the Hill for the world to admire, and avoid entangling alliances and interference in the territorial disputes of Europe – our historic foreign policy that served the Republic well for centuries.

Of course we didn’t always stay out of Europe’s problems. The results weren’t so successful as they might have been. But once Communism rose it wasn’t the old balance of power game anymore.

Herman Kahn once said that the most important fact of the Twentieth Century was that the United States and Great Britain spoke the same language, and that involved us in European affairs and dictated the side we would take. That proved startlingly true, beginning in 1914 and continuing to the end of the Century. Kahn also said that the most important fact of the Twenty-first Century might well prove to be that the United States and Russia were predominately White nations. That statement is often ignored now because it is not politically correct to say things like that. How dare he? But it remains true that Russia is a European nation, and the Russians are, after all, Vikings and Goths who came east and interacted with the Tatars for about a millennium; but they remained European. The first Rome was Rome. The second Rome was Constantinople. The third Rome shall be Moscow, and a fourth Rome there shall not be…

Nations have few permanent friends, but they do have permanent interests. One permanent interest of America is to maintain liberty and freedom. Russian Communism was a threat to that interest. It no longer is. Communism was a threat to Christianity. It no longer is. We do not have to look far to see threats to Christianity and Freedom in this world, but we do not see them in Russia now. We do see them in the Middle East, where the plain language of the Koran states that there can never be peace between Islam and unbelievers, only truces; and the plain duty of an Islamic leader, whether President of Muslim People’s State, or a Caliph of the Faithful, is to impose Islam everywhere. The Koran is as chiliastic as Das Kapital or the Manifesto ever were. Islam or the sword is the command of Allah. Of course for the People of the Book – Christians and Jews – there is the choice of dhimmitude: to live under Muslim rule and pay the tax for not being enlightened enough to accept Islam.

But surely no one takes that seriously now?

We thought that no one took Communism and its threat of world dominion seriously for a very long time. It took a while to take National Socialism’s brand of German Nationalism seriously with its need for Lebensraum, although there was no real attempt to keep that goal secret; and the plain language of the Koran imposing that duty on Moslem Leaders was pointed out in no uncertain terms on Suleiman the Magnificent, who took it seriously enough to besiege Vienna in 1529 – and came very close to taking that city. They tried again in 1689, and once again there was a huge battle that included the largest cavalry charge (led by the Polish heavy cavalry) in the history of the world, although historians generally believe that the Turks had fewer chances of success than had Suleiman in the previous century. Even so it was close enough.

The Middle East takes the Koran seriously. And it clearly states that there can be no peace between Muslim leaders and the west. Only truces.

Russia watches as former states of the USSR revert to full Muslim rule; and the West builds alliances against Russia. Putin may be forced to look to the East for allies. But first he needs to consolidate all the Russians he can find into unity with Russia or at the least into alliances. That means most of the Ukraine and what used to be known as Byelorussia and is now called the nation of Belarus. Russia has always been pan-Slavic; it will continue to be.

http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB100014240527 02304810904579507993006523488?mg=reno64-wsj&url=ht tp%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB1000142405 2702304810904579507993006523488.html

An interesting and I think accurate take.

Russia believes it NEEDS the buffer states, the West has "aggressively" taken former slave states into it's sphere, and Moscow has not been this close to the German Army since 1945. For a Russian, this means something. The Germans have been invading Russia for a long time. Since before there was a Germany and a Russia.

Rocket I too would like a link to Putin admitting the violation of international law re: unmarked troops.

Putin didn't admit it. But Jonah Goldberg said he did in the article you posted on Friday.

I'd saw Putin stating the exact opposite, which is the link I posted above earlier.

Blake states Goldberg has a good reputation as a reporter, thus he believes him when he says Putin admits to having Russian military in Ukraine without identification basically. Well, Putin says otherwise on TV, which to anyone with half a brain must mean Goldberg is lying unless Putin tells two different versions (of which there's no evidence supporting the Goldberg version). Goldberg reputation not so good then would be my take seeing as he is clearly lying.

................

Your first link in your Sunday posts, seems to be a fairly accurate summary of US / Russian relations.

Your second link with regards to the anti Semitic stuff. This is a constant example of how the western news feeds are polluting our ordinary citizens to believe Russia is the big bad wolf and the threat to their ordinary lives. The self proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic are NOT Russian backed yet ALL reports refer to them as Pro Russian. Whilst they want a Russian aligned Ukraine, this is not the same as Russia supporting this group and several others of similar political desire. Does anyone seriously believe Putin would be behind a campaign to single out Jewish people and have them treat different from non Jewish? Yeah right. Another fine example of western propaganda at its dumbest.

You know Blake, if I were a betting man, I'd say you're not reading much at all in this topic or about it!

Here's something you should consider.

Since cold war end how many invasions has the US been involved in? And Russia?

Yep I'm waiting for Putin to sweep into eastern Europe. Engage a firefight with all NATO forces, whereupon the US and British proceed with a full on attack against Russia, leading to an inevitable threat of nuclear war.

The US President says things that are not true. His own admin. has released the memos showing he knew he was lying.

He has also said one lie in front of one crowd and another contradictory lie in front of another. All on video.

I have not seen the mythical admission of Putin's. I can't say it's true. Haven't looked very hard for it.

But Putin saying something on tv denying his involvement is in no way proof he didn't say or do anything.
Do you sincerely trust an ex-KGB Officer and believe him to be an honest man who would never ever lie to YOU?

I lack that willingness to believe our own pos politicians. I sure don't trust a fellow from a culture of proven deliberate falsehoods for 100 plus years. .not blindly.
