April 2, 2014 On Tuesday, President Obama trumpeted reports that more than 7 million Americans had signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. But during his “victory lap,” did the president say how many people had actually paid their premiums? Did he say how many of those who signed up were previously uninsured — the key target of the health law — as opposed to people who lost their coverage because of Obamacare? No and no. This slippery lack of candor has been the president’s signature approach to his signature policy. Most notably, he said if people liked their current health insurance, ACA would let them keep it. As hundreds of thousands of Californians found out, that’s not true. Obama said you could keep your doctor, too. Now he admits that wasn’t true. He said ACA would save the average family $2,500 a year. Now that claim has magically disappeared — because it’s obviously untrue. The whoppers have never stopped. This year, the president has repeatedly said that health coverage available to single people costs no more than their cellphone bills. Bunk. Individuals’ cellphone bills average $70-$80 a month, far less than insurance for singles. That wasn’t a “victory lap.” It was propaganda from a politician. But there's another group that's starting to benefit from the law -- prison inmates. Cash-strapped state and local prisons increasingly are using the Affordable Care Act to pay for their inmates' medical costs, taking advantage of a little-known provision that lets them shift some of those expenses to the federal government. Ohio, Illinois and Iowa are among the states trying to offload the rising costs of health care – which include mental health programs – by enrolling inmates into a new expanded Medicaid program when they get sick. But it doesn't stop there. The states also are working to enroll them even before they're released from prison, so they have coverage when they get out. Currently, 26 states and the District of Columbia are proceeding with a Medicaid expansion which allows them to extend medical coverage to single and childless adults. Jail operators in at least a half-dozen of those states are then, using that criteria, extending coverage to inmates. The shift means the federal government would pay some emergency costs that used to be entirely covered by the states and counties -- plus, inmates are started to get coverage for when they leave. My employer is now offering ACA insurance to indigents who do not qualify for the "City Contract" currently in force for this area. Yes, we (my employer) pays the premiums for these individuals & then we claim $xxxxx for the treatment/care we provide. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.... (My employer has it's own insurance department now - we make more from claims on the insurance we provide and pay for than if we just treated the uninsured and sucked up the non-claimable costs) Guess who foots the bill for this.... First, full disclosure. I am not a Fan of John Kerry. Rather dislike the fellow, and I can give the reasons if anyone cares. I will say he does not seem to have been the kind of Commanding Officer that got his men killed seeking glory and fame. Also he has married a couple of really rich women, and isn't that a dream of many men? That said, It's kind of amazing. I thought the State Dept. under Hillary and the Executive Branch of this regime had pretty much driven American credibility and respect as low as it could go. next step I know we have some brave and innovative corporate heads here - that have a command of the helm of their business or maybe the board of a business. If you want out of this mess. There is a set method of ways to do it. And legally with in the scope of the law - as it is written.... however who knows how they will interpret the law next week... or even tomorrow. (it is as capricious and malevolent as it gets - and indeed - I don't know why we are not Revolting over it either) My methods work, I am currently talking to a local conglomerate in S Korea about implementing them there as a market test. there is infinitely more business flexibility and assumptions of theories here.
