Since the Cold War dissolved into European's able to move around our continent freely, British people are not natural enemies to Russia. Significantly we do not see Russia as a threat to us. Rather more as long lost friend.

You really need to put the crack pipe down. YOU may feel that way but I can assure you your government feels no differently about Russia then does the U.S. government.

Come on it's been at least 2 days since a Russian official threatened to kill us all in radioactive fire.

Can't you just forget the slights of the ancient past?

Criminal charges being filed now for the snipers shooting protesters, and the former Ukranian leader is saying "I wish I never asked Russia to come in and help". Russian special forces implicated as well.

But you just keep thinking it was a CIA plot Rocket...

I couldn't give a flying ferk about our government. I'm talking about people. British people. Which is what I said. And right now there is an awful lot of anti-government feeling in this country so please don't presume to know what's going on here enough to assure me what my government thinks about Russia. I know what my government thinks about Russia. Cameron as usual is towing the US line. More fool him.

This country would do well to trade with Russia without the US putting their size 10 combat boot in the way.

I've heard it on three major news channels all night. The 'I smell a rat' thing is the western installed Ukrainian puppet government saying "their" experts have investigated and found proof which amounts to them telling, one gun killed eight people. We of course still wait to see the real proof and not this odd suggestion as evidence. Anyone could be behind said gun. Why does it have to be a Russian? But of course, they have no real proof otherwise it would be all over the news is the actual reason.

They claim to have arrested 15 security police, releasing all but three of them. One of the three remaining in custody being the commander. You would imagine these 'murderers' would have left town around the same time as Yanukovych did. But no these highly trained specialists stayed around to get caught for their acts of murder. Of course they did. Could it be they have become patsies?

Meanwhile, over on RT News, they show much more of the video footage, which gives a totally different explanation as to the presence of men in black.

Puppet government claim Putin sent 5 tons of ammo. Maybe he did. So what? If Putin felt he needed to equip Yanukovych to maintain his government, then maybe Yanukovych needed supplying. But then I ask. 5 tons? That's a lot of bullets unless Yanukovych was planning a massacre of the people. And how many bullets did he have to start with? Seems odd he would need 5 tons from Russia. It also seems odd, if it were Yanukovych behind the shootings. Why did he run away? Surely with 5 tons of Russian ammo and a crack sniper team, as well as other military and law enforcers available to him, he could have wiped the floor of any protest. It's also rather odd that ALL the footage seen on TV shows a remarkably restraint security force under Yanukovych's government.

Sorry but I remain not convinced in the slightest. This looks more like a fit up than anything else. And without proof.......

We shall await to see what develops.

Yes, the polonium assassins are the truth sayers, we must trust what they say.

Who would ever imagine that the people of Ukraine would oppose being subjects under their former genocidal oppressors? Crazy talk.

How silly to think that the people of Ukraine would prefer closer relations with Europe rather than their former genocidal Soviet oppressor.

It takes a special brand of perverse cynicism to fall for such a ludicrous brand of propaganda.

Stalin did not initiate the 5 Year Plans - he implemented them from Lenin

Lenin's NEP and subsequent nationalization of industry will be and has been fairly prophetic for what ObamaCare is doing and will do.

Those of you that follow the ObamaCare thread ... want to know where I got my predictions ?...... Yep - Soviet History; Line for Line

It has been done before.
Now go back to that thread and see where I was wrong ..... I will wait.

Given Ukraine and Russia founded the USSR in 1922 I think both nations have put any grievances so old, long to bed.

Last census count shows more than a million Ukrainians migrated to Russia. Five times more than Ukranians migrating to a single country anywhere else in the world.

Ukraine is a nation of two halves. Factually the eastern half has most of what little wealth the country barely survives on. It's this half which favours closer ties to Russia, and not the EU. Perhaps it's because this half was once Russian The obvious benefits of such. A majority, but not everyone, might favour closer ties with Russia.

Ukraine's western half lives below the poverty count judged against the $1 a day scale. Never part of Russia. A rural community with little industry. Geographically the largest towns more than 200 to 500 miles from Russia. Close to north, south, and west borders, EU member states, Belarus, Poland (parts of west Ukraine once Polish), and Romania. Perhaps a majority of western Ukrainians favour an EU tie up for obvious reasons.

Ukraines problems are far greater than anyone falling for a ludicrous brand of propaganda Blake. It's ciphering through the propaganda which is difficult, but as I've said many times now, the US hands in this are just as dirty as anyone else's. Be it the British. The EU. NATO. Nazi's. It's a busy list where everyone on it has their own agenda. So please let's drop the US goody two shoes approach. No one in the know is buying it.

show me where you are drawing that line.
There is fat money in both halves of the country; shiate theres a Ferrari Dealer in downtown Kiev that does BRISK business; and the number of Mercedes in the City at rush hour will make you think the plant just shipped a crap ton to tour the streets.

the division is mostly Skilled and Financial Laborers (west Kiev and Odessa) vs Natural Resources and Industry in the East (Donetsk, Lugansk, Kharkiv) And there is money to be made in fat wads for the capitalists owning the factories, pushing the industry.

The language division is more Russian in the west and more ukrainian in the east - I have worked translating for a school in Lvov quite often.

And whoa to the Muslim in Crimea - they are of the mind that you cant own realestate, cant have a church, and have been known to nail them in their houses and burn it to the ground - in a sense of being still upset of how the Ottomans ruled the region.

In my discussions with my friends from the region - they are just tired of being ripped off and no more trust the Europeans than they do the Russians.

We're talking about a nations people. Not the small percentage of wealthy.

I believe the 'experts' in such matters generally divide the country by the Dnieper River.

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you these things if you're familiar with Ukraine.

Experts have their place. Notice how many have theories on the lost Malay airliner. One is probably true. Not the one about Elvis imho.

What are the tribal borders?

I'm inclined to agree that the Ukraine is a multi cultural nation..... as is the US. I bet some distant relatives settled there a thousand years ago.

One major reason the middle east is the mess it is, is the way the Great Powers drew lines on a map to reward their allies and claim their spoils .......... 3 World Wars plus countless colonial ones....... the Kurds for example now have their own nation on the edge of Iraq. This doesn't make the Turks happy or the Central Iraq gov. But it's there and they won't let go of it willingly. ( a future conflict in the making ) Ukraine? Lines & rivers. It's people who don't want to be ruled by Others that are at stake here.

Oh FFS Patrick. This topic is becoming a tedious waste of time if you're going to pick the bones out of everything.

What I described is an accepted view, as far as I know, established by consensus, survey, population statistics, etc etc.

The 'view' supports a position of industrial east Ukraine having more wealth (not significantly) than rural west Ukraine.

Taking into account migration, immigration, religion, language, invasion, history, current climate, etc etc etc, east Ukraine is said to favour a lean toward Russia, whilst west Ukraine is said to favour heading west toward the EU. The generally accepted divide is said to be the Dnieper River, but of course, populations are dotted about towns and cities, which is why it's said to be a general acceptance.

If you can't accept this then please rewrite the history books. Do whatever you fancy. Prove me wrong. Just don't make me have to explain every dam thing I put up here. It's boring.

Aesquire.

Aren't you ruled by Obama????

Everybody is ruled by someone. Whether you like it or not.

You really want freedom? Go live in the woods someplace and leave society behind. As long as you have a mortgage, debts, bills, pay taxes, kids, a wife, parents, relatives, a vote and a church you are a bound man.

Freedom is a fallacy. Everyone likes to talk about it but no one knows what real freedom is. Since the day you were born, you have been living in a proxy of freedom, an illusion. Some type of societal oppression is always going to control you.

You talk about freedom like it is God ordained. It's not. The best you can hope for is to be comfortable in life. Maybe you should wish the same for the people of Ukraine. In the end someone is going to rule over them, the questions is going to be who will be the head of state?

yep - welcome to the epiphany : You - the generic and multitude of plural 'You' are indeed owned chattel - meat through the grinder and those in charge - those in power and control - do not care whether you are dark meat, white meat, pork, mutton, chicken, equine, bovine, or poultry - you will simply be pushed through the grinder and spit out as the appropriate sausage d' jour.

I have friends in Poltava, Karkhov, Donetsk and Lugansk that are ready to Kill Russians or die trying.
I have friends in Kiev that partied like it was 1999 when Russia took Crimea.

The big lines that news, talking head experts and governments like to draw are built on stereotypes and prejudices that work well .... until the killing starts - and then you find out exactly who is against you.

Like both sides didn't just sent 10 years each in a shiatty little hole too well enough figure that out already.

Me - I like the Russian Culture, language, history, art. literature and traditions - I find myself more aligned with the physch that is of their origins than I do of American; But I would still line up with arms to Push Putin out of Ukraine.

PS MgToW - no kids, no wife, no house, no mortgage, Living out of a duffel. I am no-ones entitlement branded biatch.

Greatlaker,
No. Obama does not Rule me. Nor did Bush.

I'm a citizen of a Republic. ( well, it was, it's changing to something else it seems ) I bow to no man.

I propose we skip the discussion as to the illusion of freedom and the constraints society places upon us to conform for another thread. I do not reject your thesis in it's entirety. You have a valid point.

The God Ordained part... If you prefer, It is Reasoned that we are people like others and thus we all should be free to do as we please ( and harm not others, do as you will ) because experience shows that system gives the highest levels of happiness, wealth, and productivity of all tried since we lived in caves.

That said....... OTOH. Yep, you and City are right. Slave to the bloodsucking leeches. Rocket's video get's that pretty clear. ( love the bit about 29 minutes in on man vs. Person. )

Thanks Rocket, interesting stuff, need some time to absorb it...

So while we've been arguing.... have the Troops moved? Did the US gov. do anything more stupid? }

>>> The best you can hope for is to be comfortable in life.

A more pathetic best hope I've yet to hear. Both "comfort" and "fun/entertainment" are two of the most hollow unfulfilling pursuits of man.

But if one has never battled adversity and overcome pain and suffering towards achieving a laudable goal, well, one might find fulfillment in xbox and air conditioning. Sad. All the while feeling guilty and so demanding that the state confiscate from some to redistribute comfort for all. But hey, it beats taking action on one's own towards helping others who are in need.

"5 TONS OF AMMO"

Well let me tell you a little something. It appears that ALL ammo for Soviet style weapons (5.45X39, 7.62X39, 7.62X54) comes from Russia (maybe a bit from China but I haven't seen any Chinese ammo for a LONG time)
If you are using a Soviet caliber you might want to stock up now...just saying

Assange warned that the NSA and GCHQ will soon have the ability to spy on the entire planet, as their capabilities double every 18 months. During his Skype appearance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) interactive technology festival in Austin, he criticized the shift of power from people “who are surveilled upon” to those who control the surveillance complex. He called the current system “totalitarian dystopia,” meaning that “surveillance is total, so that no one exists outside the state.”

Can a traitor be a hero? Isn't this an oxymoron? Or your way of taking a side as/when/if time becomes convenient?

Assange is no traitor. America is a traitor to its people, which is what Assange exposed. That we're all being spied upon. Going back to the John Harris Youtube film........; )
