The bolt to bolt measurement on my 2001 with no one on it is 15.25. The only ones I have heard of or read about are 14. & 16.5. Before I spring for a 16.5 (because I need to be lower), can you tell me if the previous owner modified this shock? Or do I need to sit on it to look for 16.5....aaanndd, I guress I should look for a part #, to really verify accurately. And body got the part number for a 16.5? Thanks |

The preload numbers are 15.2 - 15.5 inches. For the M2. 15.6 - 15.9 for the M2L. That is center eye to eye with rider seated. I'm still looking for the compressed length. (Which is actually the rest free length for the reverse acting M2 shock ) |

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/572011.html?1289507587 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/530491.html?1265159541 The M2 is 14 inches and a bit more. The M2L is 15.25 to 15.5. and. if you put the shorter standard shock on a M2L you would raise the back end,if its half an inch shorter it will raise the back by about an inch, I haven't had an issue with my 2001 M2L, "Buttercup". ( reactor yellow may not be fastest, but the cops watch it more! ) From the above info 16.5"should lower your bike. Wouldn't it be lower than the stock M2L? I guess you are short legged??? I've got the "bandy legged Irish" short leg long torso build, so the M2L works fine for me. Are you running the "L" seat? it's much deeper cut than the regular M2 seat. I'm running the Buell "custom color" seat and it works for me. The "L" seat is for me a bit uncomfortable, as I fill it up and feel like I'm compressing my tender bits a little much. YMMV, |

Yeah, my Levis are hard to find 34/29 !!! Was looking in bad classifieds for a westec front mount to go lower than a m2L, or modding myself, to make it adjustable. One more thing. When people advertise 16.5, they are talking about end to end, instead of bolt center to center? If that's the case than my is m2l stock (15.25)? And I dont't need to buy another, just do the mod? Thanks again. I am being schooled!! |

Took some steel wool and got enough exhaust paint off of the remote label to read it. It is a ko410.01a4a m2l shock. So, watched a couple utube vids, and will take a inch off the seat, looks like its plenty thick enough to sustain a trim. Better route than lowering with a modded bracket (suspension wise). Thanks again |

the longer shock (although only one inch longer) will drop the back of the bike 2.5-3 inches due to the suspension geometry. if you were to do that, you would certainly need to drop the front to match. |
