Apologies for not getting back sooner. Since I've been compiling an answer to the CIA sniper comment, Blake has waded in, so I will go their first at the top of this long post, then, the remainder of my post, which addresses some of the issues Blake refers to will come up again. Example, the entire phone call Blake makes reference to, I'd already covered. But for the purpose of an answer to Blake, I'll mention it again right here as a response to the link Blake used.

THESE TWO WERE NOT DISCUSSING A CONSPIRACY THEORY. THEY WERE DISCUSSING ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL STRATEGY.

The entire conversation is a great deal more damning to the west manipulating the installed power players in Ukraine right now.

Here is the phone call, especially for you Blake, seeing as you've clearly not listened to it, or ignored the real meaning of their conversation.

Ukraine: Secretive Neo-Nazi Military Organization Involved in Euromaidan Sniper Shootings

By F. William Engdahl
Global Research, March 03, 2014
21st Century Wire and Global Research
Region: Europe, Russia and FSU
Theme: Police State & Civil Rights
In-depth Report: UKRAINE REPORT

The events in Ukraine since November 2013 are so astonishing as almost to defy belief. An legitimately-elected (said by all international monitors) Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovich, has been driven from office, forced to flee as a war criminal after more than three months of violent protest and terrorist killings by so-called opposition.
His “crime” according to protest leaders was that he rejected an EU offer of a vaguely-defined associate EU membership that offered little to Ukraine in favor of a concrete deal with Russia that gave immediate €15 billion debt relief and a huge reduction in Russian gas import prices. Washington at that point went into high gear and the result today is catastrophe.

A secretive neo-nazi military organization reported linked to NATO played a decisive role in targeted sniper attacks and violence that led to the collapse of the elected government.

But the West is not finished with destroying Ukraine. Now comes the IMF with severe conditionalities as prerequisite to any Western financial help.

After the famous leaked phone call of US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland (photo, left) with the US Ambassador in Kiev, where she discussed the details of who she wanted in a new coalition government in Kiev, and where she rejected the EU solutions with her “ the EU” comment, the EU went it alone. Germany’s Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier proposed that he and his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, fly to Kiev and try to reach a resolution of the violence before escalation. Polish Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski was asked to join. The talks in Kiev included the EU delegation, Yanukovich, the three opposition leaders and a Russian representative. The USA was not invited.

The EU intervention without Washington was extraordinary and reveals the deeping division between the two in recent months. In effect it was the EU saying to the US State Department, “F*** the US,” we will end this ourselves.

After hard talks, all major parties including the majority of protesters, agreed to new presidential elections in December, return to the 2004 Constitution and release of Julia Tymoshenko from prison. The compromise appeared to end the months long chaos and give a way out for all major players.

The diplomatic compromise lasted less than twelve hours. Then all hell broke loose.

Snipers began shooting into the crowd on February 22 in Maidan or Independence Square. Panic ensued and riot police retreated in panic according to eyewitnesses. The opposition leader Vitali Klitschko withdrew from the deal, no reason given. Yanukovich fled Kiev.

The question unanswered until now is who deployed the snipers? According to veteran US intelligence sources, the snipers came from an ultra-right-wing military organization known as Ukrainian National Assembly – Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense (UNA-UNSO).

Strange Ukraine ‘Nationalists’

The leader of UNA-UNSO, Andriy Shkil, ten years ago became an adviser to Julia Tymoshenko. UNA-UNSO, during the US-instigated 2003-2004 “Orange Revolution”, backed pro-NATO candidate Viktor Yushchenko against his pro-Russian opponent, Yanukovich. UNA-UNSO members provided security for the supporters of Yushchenko and Julia Tymoshenko on Independence Square in Kiev in 2003-4.

UNA-UNSO is also reported to have close ties to the German National Democratic Party (NDP).

Ever since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991 the crack-para-military UNA-UNSO members have been behind every revolt against Russian influence. The one connecting thread in their violent campaigns is always anti-Russia. The organization, according to veteran US intelligence sources, is part of a secret NATO “GLADIO” organization, and not a Ukraine nationalist group as portrayed in western media.

According to these sources, UNA-UNSO have been involved (confirmed officially) in the Lithuanian events in the Winter of 1991, the Soviet Coup d’etat in Summer 1991, the war for the Pridnister Republic 1992, the anti-Moscow Abkhazia War 1993, the Chechen War, the US-organized Kosovo Campaign Against the Serbs, and the August 8 2008 war in Georgia. According to these reports, UNA-UNSO para-military have been involved in every NATO dirty war in the post-cold war period, always fighting on behalf of NATO. “These people are the dangerous mercenaries used all over the world to fight NATO’s dirty war, and to frame Russia because this group pretends to be Russian special forces. THESE ARE THE BAD GUYS, forget about the window dressing nationalists, these are the men behind the sniper rifles,” these sources insist.

If true that UNA-UNSO is not “Ukrainian” opposition, but rather a highly secret NATO force using Ukraine as base, it would suggest that the EU peace compromise with the moderates was likely sabotaged by the one major player excluded from the Kiev 21 February diplomatic talks—Victoria Nuland’s State Department. Both Nuland and right-wing Republican US Senator John McCain have had contact with the leader of the Ukrainian opposition Svoboda Party, whose leader is openly anti-semitic and defends the deeds of a World War II Ukrainian SS-Galicia Division head. The party was registered in 1995, initially calling itself the “Social National Party of Ukraine” and using a swastika style logo. Svoboda is the electoral front for neo-nazi organizations in Ukraine such as UNA-UNSO.

One further indication that Nuland’s hand is shaping latest Ukraine events is the fact that the new Ukrainian Parliament is expected to nominate Nuland’s choice, Arseny Yatsenyuk, from Tymoshenko’s party, to be interim head of the new Cabinet.

Whatever the final truth, clear is that Washington has prepared a new economic rape of Ukraine using its control over the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

IMF plunder of Ukraine Crown Jewels

Now that the “opposition” has driven a duly-elected president into exile somewhere unknown, and dissolved the national riot police, Berkut, Washington has demanded that Ukraine submit to onerous IMF conditionalities.

In negotiations last October, the IMF demanded that Ukraine double prices for gas and electricity to industry and homes, that they lift a ban on private sale of Ukraine’s rich agriculture lands, make a major overhaul of their economic holdings, devalue the currency, slash state funds for school children and the elderly to “balance the budget.” In return Ukraine would get a paltry $4 billion.

Before the ouster of the Moscow-leaning Yanukovich government last week, Moscow was prepared to buy some $15 billion of Ukraine debt and to slash its gas prices by fully one-third. Now, understandably, Russia is unlikely to give that support. The economic cooperation between Ukraine and Moscow was something Washington was determined to sabotage at all costs.

This drama is far from over. The stakes involve the very future of Russia, the EU-Russian relations, and the global power of Washington, or at least that faction in Washington that sees further wars as the prime instrument of policy.

Estonian Foreign Minister Accuses NEW Ukranian Government of Being Behind Sniper Attacks Which Led to Ouster of OLD Ukranian Government

Earlier today an even more shocking recording has been "leaked" this time one between the always concerned about human rights EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet, in which it is revealed on tape that all those photos of horrifying deaths of Ukrainians by snipers during the last days of the Median stand off, were in fact caused not by Snipers controlled by Yanukovich, but that the snipers shot at both protesters and police in Kiev were allegedly hired by Maidan leaders!

The Rise of Ukrainian Fascism

A precedent the West will live to regret

by Justin Raimondo, March 05, 2014

With the eyes of the world fixed on Russia’s invasion of Crimea and the prospect of a wider war engulfing all Ukraine, our attention has been diverted from what may be the most significant aspect of this crisis: the ascension of a genuinely fascist mass movement into the corridors of power.

Our "mainstream" media shrugs off what it describes as the presence of "a few ultra-nationalists" at the Kiev protests, but this is nonsense: it is far more than a few. Indeed, the activists of the two main fascist parties in Ukraine – Svoboda and "Right Sector" – provided the muscle the insurrectionists needed to take over government buildings in Kiev and across western Ukraine.

Svoboda ("Freedom") was founded in 1991 as the Social National Party of Ukraine. The party idolizes Stepan Bandera, whose followers fought on the side of the Nazis during World War II against the Red Army and Ukrainian communist militias. Bandera’s Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) had direct support from the Germans: Hitler wanted them to police Ukraine after the Germans took it, and the OUN organized volunteer militias that actively participated in the Holocaust. "The Jews of the Soviet Union," declared the Banderists, "are the most loyal supporters of the Bolshevik Regime and the vanguard of Muscovite imperialism in the Ukraine." When the Germans took Lvov in the summer of 1941, the Banderists sent a message to Lvov’s Jews in the form of a pamphlet which said: "We will lay your heads at Hitler’s feet"! Which they did; the OUN worked with the SS to round up and slaughter 4,000 of the city’s Jews. Their weapons of choice: everything from guns to metal poles.

When Viktor Yushchenko, during his disastrous tenure as President of Ukraine, bestowed on Bandera the posthumous title of "Hero of Ukraine," the European Parliament formally protested: they were ignored.

Svoboda leader Oleh Tyahnybok, now a top official of the Ukrainian Parliament, is an unrepentant anti-Semite. In the summer of 2004, he made a speech to his followers at the gravesite of a Banderist commander in which he declared: "You are the ones that the Moscow-Jewish mafia ruling Ukraine fears most." His peroration also made reference to "Kikes" as prominent among those the Banderists fought. Tyahnybok was expelled from Parliament for his remarks, but the "revolution" has installed him back in his seat – and more powerful than ever.

He has plenty of company. Svoboda activists, who already held seats in Parliament, hold no less than eight top Cabinet positions:

Ihor Tenyukh – interim defense minister and a member of Svoboda’s political council. Formerly commander of Ukraine’s navy, in 2008, during Russia’s war with Georgia, he ordered Ukrainian warships to block the entrance of the Russian Navy to the bay of Sevastopol.

Andriy Parubiy – National Security Council chief, co-founded Svoboda back when it was the “Social National” (ahem!) party.

Dmytro Yarosh – deputy head of the National Security Council, i.e. the police, and the founder-leader of "Right Sector," a militant neo-Nazi paramilitary group that took charge of security in the Maiden.

Oleh Makhnitsky – Svoboda member of parliament, is prosecutor-general.

Oleksandr Sych – Svoboda parliamentarian and the party’s chief ideologist, is deputy prime minister for economic affairs.

Serhiy Kvit – a leading member of Svoboda, is to head up the Education Ministry.

Andriy Moknyk – the new Minister of Ecology, has been Svoboda’s envoy to other European fascist parties. Last year, he met with representatives of Italy’s violent neo-fascist gang, Forza Nuovo.

Ihor Shvaika – agro-oligarch and a member of Svoboda, has been appointed Minister of Agriculture. One of the richest men in the country, his massive investments in agriculture would seem to indicate a slight conflict of interest.

For the first time since 1933, the followers of a movement that valorizes Adolf Hitler and preaches anti-Semitism has entered a European government. The German Nazis, too, were part of a "coalition" government, the other members of which thought they could contain or even “tame” them and prevent a Communist takeover. They were tragically wrong – and the United States and its European allies are taking the same road in backing Hitler’s heirs in Ukraine.

Of course the majority of the government’s supporters are hardly hardcore neo-Nazis: but that isn’t necessary to make this a precedent the West will live to regret. The presence of Svoboda and "Right Sector" legitimizes these movements, and not only in Ukraine. Germany has periodically sought to ban the neo-Nazi National Democratic Party, and the British have taken legal measures against the British National Party: will they now grant the Ukrainian brothers of these so-called hate groups diplomatic recognition and pledges of political and even military support?

What’s interesting about the specific appointments listed above is the prominence of "Right Sector" leader Dmytro Yarosh in the key position of deputy chief of the national police. The "Right Sector" organization came out of the merger of several ultra-nationalist and openly neo-Nazi grouplets, including "Trident," the Ukrainian National Assembly-Ukrainian National Defense Force, "White Hammer," and "Patriots of Ukraine." Yorash boasted at the height of the protests that his group had amassed a large weapons cache, and since they already had the guns it was inevitable they would form the nucleus of the reconstituted police force. With the group’s high profile, and its celebrated status as "heroes of the revolution," Yorash’s stormtroopers – who wear the red-and-black insignia of the Banderists –will be charged with suppressing anti-government "disturbances" and hunting down "traitors." Perhaps they’ll throw in a little queer-bashing as well: the nationalists hate gays as well as Jews and all Russian-speakers.

Victoria Nuland thought she could keep Svoboda and "Right Sector" out of the government, but she hasn’t done a very good job so far. And with elections scheduled for May 5, the nationalists are well positioned to take a good chunk of the vote. Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the State Department’s favored candidate, is a bespectacled technocrat notably lacking in the charisma department. Tyahnybok , on the other hand, is a natural demagogue.

No matter how many US taxpayer dollars flow into the coffers of the State Department’s Ukrainian sock puppets between now and May 25, all the money in the world may not be able to contain the forces our interventionists have loosened on the world. The news that the leader of "Right Sector" has called on none other than al-Qaeda to help Ukraine in its battle against Russia is an indication of just what sort of demons we have unleashed – this time.

I saw an interview with Dennis Kucinich this morning. Twisted seems to fit. I think he may have the same mindset as Rocket. I'm really not sure. He was asked about the possibility of Europe finding alternatives to getting energy from Russia (possibly the US). He launched into how the US is to blame with exactly this sort of economic pressure on Russia. Obviously they have to respond in the way the did with Crimea. How could you possibly expect them to do anything else?

So basically, by allowing Europe to have an alternative source for the basic raw materials of modern life, it's reasonable for Russia to start taking over it's neighboring states as a response to this "economic aggression" (Kucinich's words). It's terrifying to hear this line of reasoning from a leader here in the US. So where should we expect this "response" to economic aggression to end? As Russia's borders expand, won't they push further and further into areas that are likely to have neighbors who might just consider a source of goods other than from Russia? By this reasoning, obviously that neighbor must also be taken. That is the problem with this line of thinking.

Let's turn that around and apply that line of reasoning to the US. Should the US occupy parts of Canada or Mexico if they should dare to consider that they could get better deals on materials for themselves from someplace other than the US? We would almost be obligated to occupy them. The rest of the world should welcome our response to this economic aggression against the US, shouldn't they?

It just boggles the mind to think that these people can actually prefer forced trade partners at the end of a gun over free choice and economic competition.

Professor Rocket just doesn't understand the power of a totalitarian propaganda machine to justify the illegal conquest and annexation of part (or all) of a sovereign nation. Goebbels would be proud. Here is an opinion piece by Andrew Wood, a former British ambassador to Moscow, who is in a position to know.

Putin's Ugly Demagoguery

Crying “Fascist” on Ukraine
by Andrew Wood, Published on March 13, 2014

The Russian media and Russian politicians claim it is their duty to confront Ukraine’s “fascism.” What does that emotionally charged label really mean? And who has the right to hang it on whom?

Andrew Wood is associate fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House, and served in the British Embassy in Moscow from 1964–66, 1979–82 and 1995–2000, the last as Ambassador.

It's a simple task to listen to the facts.

The US has manipulated themselves into Ukraine, against Russia, using fascist groups as well as foreign mercenaries and US secret armies. Their intent. Destabilise the Russian economy. Isolate Russia. Install NATO into eastern Ukraine.

Rocket's theories are based in part upon Obama being some mad, evil genius who, together with NATO, is pulling the strings. After more than 5 years of Barry's BS, I just don't see it. Now if you said Obama was plotting to take a golf vacation in Crimea, I could believe you.

I'm not going to say that's wrong, or that you won't get plenty of hits. What you are NOT getting is accurate information. WHY? You are asking for a particular view point. There's no shortage of view points on the internet. It's one of it's greatest strengths. It's also one of it's greatest weaknesses. http://www.strategypage.com/respect/articles/milit ary_2009522.asp

I have heard complaints that America is too isolationist, and too meddling. There is some justification for both views.

In WW2 we did not want to go to war in another European war and there was a lot of domestic pressure to just let Europe burn and we'll deal with the winner. ( never, of course, expressed that baldly ) Pearl Harbor changed that, but even so the US in 1939 didn't have a military that could have helped all that much. Even by 1941 with the paranoid socialist in office ( who didn't trust the paranoid socialist in power in Germany ) and a frantic build up of weapons and troops, the US could have made no real change in the fate of France.

Every time the US goes isolationist, up to the mid 20th century, Europe burned. The Cold War in the last half of the 20th century was a golden age for Europe.

Yes, the specter of mutual destruction, doomsday strategies, and the Mushroom Cloud bruised the psyche of a generation, but for 50 years Europe didn't have a major war. Might be a record.

Freed from fear of "outside" invasion by NATO backed by American money & power, without having to pay for a military to defend themselves against their traditional enemies, ( the nation next door ) Europe flourished. Well at least they had the shot. The nature of Social Democracies was best summed up by PM Margret Thatcher.

The meddling part is also true in many cases. The trials of British Aeroplane companies when the 1957 White Paper decided that airplanes were obsolete and guided missiles would defend the UK, plus the pressure from US firms to buy our stuff, plus the bribes taken by European politicians.... pretty much killed the industry. ( and yes, US companies did pay large bribes to sell their wares. It is after all traditional to do so in Europe, no? }

There are other examples.

What will it take for me to believe Russian propaganda? That it be true. There's usually a tiny bit of twisted fact in the lies so that the evil guys can point at it and go "see, see? It's True, and you suck! Racist! triskaidekaphobe!"

I completely can buy the idea that "western" companies wanted to make money in the Ukraine. That bribery and dirty tricks were used. That folk got rich on bribes. Buy that easy.

That mercenaries operated in the capitol city killing people opposed to the then existing government and were not stopped by the then existing government and no one knows where they are now? That one.... need more proof than usual.

That Russian governments lie, murder, propagandize absolute bs as fact, and use Hate and fear to gain & keep power? I don't HAVE to buy that one. It's been established fact for longer than I've been alive.

One minor point - Pearl Harbor didn't bring us into the European war - our declaration of war against Japan is what brought us into Europe's war because Germany then declared war on America.

George Will: When geography matters
Igor Stravinsky, the Russian composer, said of Poland, perilously positioned between Russia and Germany: “If you pitch your tent in the middle of Fifth Avenue, it is quite likely you will be run over by a bus.” Poland has been run over hard and often; indeed, between 1795 and 1918 it disappeared from the map of Europe.

Geography need not be destiny, but it matters, as Ukraine is being reminded. During its hazardous path to the present, all or bits of it have been parts of Poland, the Austro-Hungarian empire, the Ottoman empire, the Russian empire, the Soviet Union and now another Russian empire. Czarist Russia, which Lenin called “the prison of the peoples,” is re-emerging and has in Vladimir Putin an ambitious warden.

In last week’s Kremlin address, he said, “Do not believe those who want you to fear Russia, shouting that other regions will follow Crimea. We do not want to divide Ukraine; we do not need that.” The word “need” is not reassuring. It suggests that Russia’s needs are self-legitimizing, and recalls the definition of a barbarian as someone who thinks his appetites are their own justification.

Speaking of which: Six months after Germany’s absorption of Austria, which was quickly ratified by a plebiscite, Adolf Hitler, on Sept. 26, 1938, spoke about the Sudeten region of Czechoslovakia, home of many ethnic and linguistic Germans. Speaking three days before the Munich Conference began, he said: “This is the last territorial demand I have to make in Europe.” On March 15, 1939, six months after Germany’s annexation of the Sudetenland agreed to at Munich, Hitler swallowed the rest of Czechoslovakia.

Then his attention turned to “protecting” the German-speaking population in Poland. On Sept. 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland on the pretext of responding to a Polish provocation. Ten days before, he had told senior military officers, “I shall give a propagandistic cause for starting the war, whether it be plausible or not. The victor shall not be asked, later on, whether we told the truth or not.” On the night of Aug. 31, a German prisoner was dressed in a Polish uniform, killed and displayed as a casualty of a Polish attack on a German radio station.

Putin, whose lamented Soviet Union was then Hitler’s ally, knows Hitler’s tactics. If Putin had a sense of humor he would justify as “R2P” his policy of bringing home to the safety of mother Russia many of the Russians residing in contiguous countries. R2P — “responsibility to protect” — was the moral principle the Obama administration invoked to justify involvement in the seven-month assault on Moammar Gadhafi, who posed no threat to us but supposedly did to Libyans.

On Sept. 26, 1938, Hitler said “10 million Germans” lived “in two large contiguous regions” outside the Reich, and that “if I were simply to renounce 10 million ... I would then have no moral right to be fuehrer of the German people.” Putin, whose Russia had about 142 million people before he added the 2 million in Crimea, must envelop many more if he is to match the 200 million the last czar, Nicholas II, ruled 100 years ago.

Can NATO help restrain Putin? After NATO was created in 1949, its first secretary-general, Lord Ismay, said its purpose was to protect Europe by keeping “the Russians out, the Americans in and the Germans down.” The task of keeping Russia out of its neighbors is being complicated by something that would have improved the last century — German passivity. Angela Merkel may think that bringing Barack Obama to a confrontation with Putin is like bringing a knife — a butter knife — to a gunfight.

In a recent New Yorker interview, Obama praised himself for being “comfortable with complexity” and unraveled the Middle East’s complications: “It would be profoundly in the interest of citizens throughout the region if Sunnis and Shias weren’t intent on killing each other.” This is the president as poseur — detached, laconic, arch, almost droll: If only — apologies to Kipling — the lesser breeds without the law would behave.

Obama evidently harbors the surreal hope that Putin will continue to help regarding Syria and Iran. Continue? Putin’s client in Damascus, Bashar al-Assad, is winning his civil war. And regarding attempts to halt Iran’s nuclear weapons program, Putin’s helpfulness, if not fictitious, has been ineffective.

Obama, always a slayer of straw men, has eschewed something no one has contemplated, “a military excursion in Ukraine.” The American Heritage Dictionary defines “excursion” as “a usually short journey made for pleasure.”

Either way it plays out, it is a win for Putin.

1) He retreats, Obama and the UN can claim "we saved the Ukraine by our bold leadership", and he gets away scott free with the Crimea deal.

2) He retreats, but makes it clear that Ukrainian common people that they can overturn the Russian political manipulations of a ruling class, but that won't help them and they better kowtow to Russia anyway.

3) He invades Ukraine anyway. Because &^&^ you, that's why. Keep marching until somebody figures out a way to actually make you stop.

This was perfected by the Third Reich. When will the apologists wake up and stop apologizing for Mother Russia?

What does Rocket say about the "UN General Assembly Approves Resolution Calling Russian Annexation of Ukraine's Crimea Illegal".

You make it sound like I (we) should be surprised by these corrupt agencies making such announcements when they've already been exposed for their role, past and present, in what is a US manipulated coup d'etat.

Of course, no amount of evidence, proof, truth, would have some believe this to be the reality of what's happening here.

US Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, Victoria Nuland, said to Geoffrey Pyatt, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, she had......

“now gotten both Serry and Ban Ki-moon to agree that Serry could come in Monday or Tuesday. So that would be great, I think, to help glue this thing and have the UN help glue it, and, you know, f*ck the EU.”

She had discussed the plan with U.N. Undersecretary for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, a former senior U.S. Department official, and that he would appoint a U.N. representative to help move it forward. Vice President Joe Biden would also be brought into the plan at the right time, according to Nuland.
