Al, that rosewood top guitar reminds me of Brian May's guitar. Always had a lot of respect for Brian knowing he not only played, but built his own guitar. |

I've seen three of the top four play within the last five years, and brushed shoulders with Hendrix when I was a kid I don't agree with quite a few on the list. Or at least the order they're in. Some didn't even make the list. They sight several as been trained classically yet there's not one classical guitarist makes the entire list. Not how I remember the ending to Crossroads! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-greate st-guitarists-20111123/jimi-hendrix-20120705 And why is Adam Bomb not on the list! Rocket in England |

That's a great guitar - now I'm down one SG Classic (which sold today) and up one TV Yellow Les Paul Special with P90s. I took it into the hospital to entertain my wife and then messed around with the set up a little bit and it's really going to be a wonderful instrument. After I get my Lucille back I'm going to pick up another Firebird - I had a V and a VII but I sold them for a good cause. One went towards getting married and one went to more stereo gear which I probably could have done without. Ah well, stereo gear is fun, too, and my nutty little left wing hippie Hispanic wife is a keeper, too! |

My wife complained to me the other day - How many guitars do you need anyway? I asked her how many pairs of shoes does she need. She replied that they were all different. Exactly.

Just added a new tool to the sonic shed. Bought a used Tony Iommi Epiphone. Always wanted an SG in the collection and would not normally have chosen the Epiphone version but I like the Iomm and was thoroughly impressed with the pickups. These are the same pickups as the Iommi Gibson and this guitar was a bargain considering how it sounds. |

I'm afraid that I'm down to NO SGs but I am up one lovely Les Paul Special. I wish Gibson would make the finger boards more scratch resistant - you can tell what my fingernails do to them in very short order. It kind of feels like a ukulele compared to my 335 but I like it just the same.

So.. anyone have a Chibson guitar?? I have no problem with a Chinese guitar copying a fabulous American made guitar as long as is states Made in China... Some of these guitars are 500.00 counterfeit copies (most.. not all, poorly made) AND they say MADE IN USA!!! WTF?!?!?! WHAT... is it because it's the music industry that it doesn't matter?? I really don't get that. there are literally Hundreds of great guitar players PRAISING these counterfeit instruments... WTF?!?!?! And making excuses to justify their purchase. You THOSE people SUCK. (Chinese ass kissers) Very effed up imho. You guys know way more than me about this but I am guessing it has something to do with the Free-Trade Agreement?? Insert famous Hillary quote here? >>>You guys know way more than me about this Seems obvious. I've got a pretty fair collection of American Made custom Gibson, Fender and Martin guitars. 10 years ago the stuff, with the possible exception of the Korean Ibanez ArtCore jazz boxes . . .were crap. That's history. I've had only limited exposure but . . based on a VERY UNSCIENTIFIC sample . . . I'd challenge most folks, without knowing, to tell the $500 Epiphone from the $3,000 Gibson, I bought the 4 Gibsons in December largely as a statement of support to Gibson after they were targeted for their political views. |

I could care less about Henry Our Leader's politics and the reason behind the raids. I buy Gibsons because I like the guitars. I won't buy one with that Richlite fret board, though. Give me ebony or give me death! Well, give me ebony or give me a used guitar like my old Lucille which comes home as soon as the tax refund hits. That's the guitar for me! P.S. They made some real blunders with the 2014 model year - eTune, frets over the binding, Richlite fret boards, ach. What were they thinking? |

Well... I am all for fair business... if they want to sell cheap guitars that look like a Gibson or Fender so be it,... but to counterfeit like they do with sneakers and sports clothing ?? geeze... I didn't think there were that many. (there are hundreds of Chibson reviews are all over youtube) I wonder if they could get away with the same blatant lie if they did it with Ford or GM?? I wonder if car enthusiasts' would buy those too? |

I believe your almost correct in telling the difference between an Epiphone and Gibson... there is quality control in both those companies. I believe there is NONE in the Chibsons. The Chibson is a blatant counterfeit of Gibson. |

Sorry, I didn't want to end up to be a downer in this awesome guitar thread... ugh. I've known about cheap guitar knock offs... but did not know about the counterfeit guitars so much (the Gibson clones) and seeing the folks on your tube bragging about it like it really doesn't matter. This youtube channel makes me happy again though... https://www.youtube.com/user/mesaengineering1969/v ideos |

>>>They made some real blunders with the 2014 model year - eTune, frets over the binding, Richlite fret boards, ach. Precisely the reason I "stocked up" on 2013's. I've long wanted an SG. When they dropped the bottom out of the prices for the Stnadards to clear them out AND announced that MinEtune was standard for 2014 . . I leapt. I didn't want to leave my kids and grandkids iconic guitars someday with something that looked like a bug crawling on the back of the headstock. I think the MinEtune has it's place . . . and it'd be cool on an SG but I did want to have some "classics". In terms of the old . . . I found a PERFECT (including the original flimsy cardboard case and all the paperwork) 1965 Melody Maker that was the first Gibson I bought. Then . . . I'm in the club I go to late every Monday . . and last night in walks a guy with something that looked like a vintage ES-137 but with an acoustic sound hole. |

Gibson... Fender... Blah blah blah... Like my motorcycles, I prefer my guitars to be functional and well used. Over the years I have done the band thing and when it came down to it my #1 favorite was a 1989 Ibanez RG560 that I modified to have 1 EMG active pickup with no tone control, just volume and a holographic print. I also still have my black 1987 Ibanez Rg540pro (bought new in 1987 by me). Personally, neither Gibson, Fender, or anyone else has ever made a sweeter playing shredder than Ibanez, PERIOD! I believe guys like Steve Via, Joe Satriani, and Paul Gilbert have backed that up over the last 30 years. In the casual/camping department I have my used Bently I purchased for $40 that has been instigator of many laughs and good times over the years. Also I got a 1980s vintage Ovation I play at church and at have brought out for a campfire or two. If you want to talk amps and effects I keep it simple. 1 Boss GT6 pedal and an older Gallien Krueger amp with 1 12" woofer that I attached a 31 band eq to.

Court, If you want to see someone who is just incredible on an SG, catch Dweezil Zappa next time he comes around. I took the wife to see him last night (her Christmas present) and he has really come in to his own as a guitarist. The rest of the band was great, too. Two ninety minute sets and they were ON from the second they hit the stage. They had a meet and greet after the show, really nice people. |

If Hwy 61 is good enough for Fido it's good enough for me. If you get a chance, check out PJ Harvey's version of that, it's really a different take on it. I spent an hour or so with some very fine sandpaper and steel wool and got rid of all the sharp fret edges on that yellow Les Paul Special. It plays really nice now.
