I taught myself to type. Consequently, I don't type very well. I think the most commonly used key on my keyboard is backspace. | ||

Yeah, I knew I had to learn to touch type, going into IT. I took a self paced typing class as one of my courses. It was going great, because of all the typing practice I was getting in my COBOL course at the time. I learned to type way faster than I was getting through the exercises, and we had an early spring. That meant riding the motorcycle to class. It also meant a riding buddy who was ending his classes right when I was "supposed" to be in the typing lab. At least I can blame motorcycles. Any idea what an F does to an otherwise straight A GPA? It really sucks! | ||

In any other context I would say the folk directing the news from the White House are mentally ill. Considering their ideology/faith I think their fury at those who disagree is a learned response.........or that the ideology attracts the mentally ill. Heard a puff piece on Obamacare this AM on NPR. An "ACA" booth set up on campus was being ignored, since College kids don't know the ACA is Obamacare. When the college kids find out they will have to pay "penalties" for not having insurance, they were shocked. Since the ACA was passed and Insurance rates have ( in many cases ) doubled ( or quintupled ) many simply cannot afford it. They really were spinning for all it was worth to make Obamacare seem like a grand and generous thing, and every actual person they talked to ( other than the Obamacare minions ) made it obvious that NPR was desperate to make a good out of a cluster orgy. | ||

Well, I agree that the Conservatives are the only ones trying to transcend contentious racial issues. The "White" part is bogus, though. Black Conservatives are too. If the point is Derbyshire is a White supremist that got kicked off a conservative magazine because he's racist, could be. The "educated blacks are communist" stuff, may be true. ( if you went Ivy League odds are your professors were ) But it's insensitive to say. WHY should I believe a fake radio guy on Youtube? I don't believe real radio guys. | ||

So, if a conservative is elected president in 2016, can he or she not take a page out of Obama's book, and simply delay all the provisions of Obamacare indefinitely? Seems like rewriting laws on the fly is OK with the Ds, so they shouldn't have much to complain about. Right? | ||

Court, Often at SCA camping events, I find myself in discussions around a campfire with a diverse group. Some scmiberals, to be sure, since a lot of us are teachers, but almost all have a deep interest in history. It gets even weirder when there is a multi-era event at Museums, Colleges or Forts. I've been part of a discussion on the merits & techniques of cavalry swords with Vikings, Landsknechte, and Confederates. ( I favor a Spatha ) When folk whose day jobs include US Marshal, CIA analyst, School Bus mechanic and stock broker get together and discuss politics with an eye to historical patterns it can get heated. I can't say the group is more conservative than not, but the presence of active military does change the dynamic from the Ivory towers some live in. ( I'm planning on buying a pavilion this year from a Colonel who has done multiple tours in the War ) Operation Desert Shield kicked off during Pensic. ( the largest SCA event.... 10K plus folk... think Daytona for History nuts ) All over the campground cell phones went off, and the recall was on. So many military were on site that the local National Guard C-130's were tasked to carry them to their units, and ever since they do flybys to honor them. Also the Recon units do overflights to photograph a tent city "military area", and call each day to verify the numbers on site so they can better calibrate their estimates on such formations in other lands. Seriously. |
