Might want to look at Mazda CX-5 or CX-9, depending on how important mpg is to you. |

2.2 TiD stupid cheap in the UK now - before many are scrapped no doubt in the next couple of years.

I miss my 9-3 hatchback. Incredible cars, even if mine did die a bit early at 165k miles. I replaced it with an 05 9-3 Aero V6 turbo, which is pretty cool technology, but where the old 9-3 hatch felt like a Saab only a little ruined by GM, the newer one feels like a GM that Saab did a good job of damage control on. Still a nice car, but that 9-3 hatch was something special. TiD would be even cooler. |

2003 and later are referred to as sport saloons here, and you're right Bill, they are less quirky than all previous Saab's and less of a Saab for it. The previous 9-3 is not a bad car as Saab's go. Better still is they can be found for little money these days. It won't last though as really good ones are getting hard to find, and some that need little work to make an alright car are sadly being scrapped. It's the same old story. They find themselves through several owners hands until their price point means these last few owners don't have the money to do repairs that would keep the car going. They look at the overall running costs and decide to scrap. I see it all to often. Moral. If you see a good one. Like a top model in good condition, now is the time to buy. 1996 - 2002 Rag tops here have been on the floor for a couple or more years. Many have been scrapped. Good ones are now starting to increase in value. I've three at the minute, and know when I sell them, I'll kick myself for not keeping the best one! Rocket in England |

Well, this search is nearing its end. Another test drive confirmed the decision. The replacement for the snow tank is (drumroll..........) a 2014 Subaru Forester! Best car for the best price. A low profile Thule box will complete its functionality and will fit in with all the other "different, just like everybody else" Colorado "Soo-bee" drivers. It's gonna be a little higher jump for the hound, so some retraining may be in the works. He may just end up on a blanket in the back seat. We'll see. Picking it up sometime this week. Thanks to all for your input. B. |
