Don't know if your news media are carrying this story. Victoria Nuland & Geoffrey Pyatt are under the mistaken impression that only the NSA record phone conversations. This is HUGE here today. http://youtu.be/CL_GShyGv3o Warning contains naughty words! |

That's just another scandal made up by Faux News. Honestly, it's probably only news around here on Fox News. |

If I had a dollar for every time I used that word... I say "meh" to that. |

BTW, in case it isn't news in your part of the world, BO just had an interview with Bill O'Reilly of Fox News where he blamed Fox News for all of his scandals. Fast & Furious, IRS, Ben Ghazi, NSA, FUEU, etc. Just in case you didn't get my previous post. |

The NSA has had SOFA agreements and forward deployed listening posts and 'sharing' for as along as I was doing it. My favorite was the Azores, my least was Diego Garcia. We listened to EVERYTHING. You put it in the air - it was, and always has been, ours. (NSA never had a prohibition on domestic operations that the CIA did - not that a compelling piece of paper wouldn't over ride 'Intelligence Oversight' ) NSA - In God we Trust, in all others we MONITOR welcome to the real Komrade (since at least 1987) |

Ah Diego Garcia. Been there, luckily only stayed less than 12 hours (back on the ship for me). We were dropping off some supplies and fresh ears... I am amazed that the NSA listening revelations come as a surprise to anyone as this has been going on since the 60's at least. The ship I was on (Spruance class destroyer) was outfitted with the latest "passive" electronic warfare gear that could pick up just about any electronic signal, but was really for intercepting radar signals (yeah right). I ran that gear on my ship and we had specific procedures that required us to turn it off when we came within a certain distance of the US coast, but had no restrictions for other countries. The things we heard... A guy I went to EW school with in Florida ended up being court marshaled for turning their gear on while in port in San Diego. He sat a long time in federal prison for basically a drunken mistake. The Navy is actually where I learned about all the listening devices the US (and many other countries) have all around the world. No conversation is private unless you are in the middle of no where whispering into someones ear. At least it used to be, before drones (which by the way we were playing with back in the early 80's). |

Where is this "no where" you speak of? |

This is an assistant secretary of state we're talking about, doesn't say much for her judgement. There must be something in the air these days as good sense seems to be in short supply in the higher echelons of governments. Witness France's clown president. |

The few places that I have found desolate and safe enough to say what was on your mind.... was in the SCIF itself - because there are no internal monitoring devices allowed in there I don't know that even the middle of the woods is safe anymore - most of the forest that I used to ride in is getting barred off with rather Federal signs and fences / posts |
