Sweet video and always interesting to see Detroit. I didn't spend much time in Detroit in my years in Michigan, but do love the city and the folks there. I spent 4 years in Flint, which was interesting too. It's sad to see historic parts of these cities fall to ruin, but it happens. I'm sure there will be revival, and there are some cool things happening in Michigan to hopefully help turn things around. Prior | ||

Yes, I have a potty mouth that is frowned upon at KindergartenWeb. Threadjacking every post and going into a political discussion no matter how far removed the original subject is from politics is fine. 8 posts into a thread on skiing and we were already on the deep end of politics with ski talk nowhere to be found. It was me, oooh I said a bad word and used some fake deity name in vain. oooh I'm such a bad dude. Yep it was me. This guy right here! Bad mount man, My Mom is washing my mouth out with soap as I type to punish me for using a sequence of bad words on the internet! Sifo did you read any of the posts before mine? I see no mention of Obama (other than yours, and this one of course) at all. NYT has no mention either, but it was used as a source by the one who first turned this thread political. It never was anti Obama as you claimed. If you want to blame someone, at least blame the right freaking people! Of course, right now, it's you that seems to insist on going down this road. Seriously, this was the entire post before it went political... "Cool video. I don't think I'll ever go back to my home town again though. Too damn depressing seeing what has become of Detroit." I just don't see the politics in that. Certainly no more political than the video itself. Some of you folks need to get a grip! Now, back to what ever folks want to discuss. | ||

Beelzebub's advocate here, a moment: I also wonder at the hair-trigger many, maybe the majority of active BW posters have, to kick ANY topic over to the political. I've had the same emotional response, and nearly abandoned this community due to this phenomenon. I'm a music lover, and it's kinda like hearing the same tune anywhere, all the time, or at least expecting it. Which I do. Kinda like Muzak. Which I hate. G did violate the terms of the BW, and many folks sensibilities, and their pious nature, but his point is VALID. BadWeatherBikers, I suspect, originated as a motorcycling forum, focusing on a shared love of Buell products. The QB serves as a catch-all for odd topics... too bad all many of you talk about is politics. Learn a new language in 2014... preferably an amicable and inclusive one. Back on/off topic... I didn't really get that the super cool urban skiing vid was political at all. Just cool, engaging, and with a KILLER soundtrack. | ||

If you don't want to read a political thread, then don't read a political thread. Pretty simple even though some can't grasp this. However, I do agree that non-political threads can be hijacked but the best course is to ignore troll-like behavior. I love my Uly and I really like the Badweb community. Leave or don't leave. How on earth can you watch that video and not see that it is highly political? They are skiing in an industrial wasteland, and they were in constant fear of their lives from criminals. So much that they aborted the first filming try. Geesh. Detroit was democratic controlled and run by democratic ideals and it is now an utter wasteland. The very things that conservatives warned would happen as a result of democratic policies, happened. You own it. Deal with it. | ||

Please explain to the class how this is a valid point. Where exactly did this become an anti Obama thread? No doubt I'm more than willing to get into the politics of almost any subject. Of that I'm certainly guilty. That's only because politics touches virtually everything and everything you do in life. If you are going to say that this was because of some anti Obama bent, then I ask that you support that position. The reality is that this thread went sideways when someone who always complained about political threads when he used to post here decided to jump back into our world carrying his flame thrower. Please correct anything I've got wrong on that. | ||

Detroit started to fail long before whatshisname got to DC. Multiple reasons, including bad decision making by leaders in the Car business, the welfare state, etc. etc. You can even blame, with good justification, the Cult of the Harvard MBA & the Ivy League unreality machine. I won't go into that, now, but I can make that argument. It's the cause for the bad decision making, and welfare state. Anyway..... Nice bit of film making. I envy the skill of the skiers, I was never better than Intermediate crazy on the slopes. The gear is better now, too, but these guys show the "boarder" influence in style and fearlessness. Urban Mountain Biking, now.... I have fun, but I also tend to ride with guys much better than I am. I'm never even going to try and grind down a handrail. I have done my share of messing around on steps.... and on one memorable occasion have had the bizarre conversation with a LEO.... "you can't ride there" "Sorry, I won't do it again" "No, you can't ride there" "Ok, we'll go somewhere else" "NO!! YOU CAN'T RIDE THERE!!!!" "Sorry" ( about 4 more reps with increasing volume ) "NO!!!! ^&(*^(%% IT! YOU CAN'T RIDE THERE!!!!! HOW THE F&^( DID YOU GET THERE???!!!!!!!!" "oh! Watch this bubba."  | ||

I'm glad a lot of you liked this video. To me it celebrates the human spirit. By that I mean being really good at something, taking calculated risks, and overcoming challenges...and then there is teamwork. It's obvious a lot of teamwork went into making the video. It's rude to mock another's faith. I don't have the same faith as Blake, yet somehow we avoid mocking the other's. ( no matter how wrong we assume the other's is  ) I don't know if that's just courtesy on our parts or what, since there are subjects we deeply disagree on. Yet while the occasional "you're crazy" pops out, I've never felt the need to attack him personally, instead arguing from reason or facts. He almost always returns the same courtesy. The Video in question isn't JUST an extreme skiing film. Yes, the action is athletic, but the setting was deliberately chosen to showcase the ruins of a dying civilization. Detroit is a good choice for the guerrilla skiing, because of the lack of police interference in the minor vandalizing of already vandalized buildings. Rochester has smaller areas of such decay, but would be harder to get away with such actions since it has not yet fallen to Detroit's level of lawlessness. Despite the similar loss of traditional industrial age jobs. I know, because I have done some guerrilla bicycling here with occasional LEO contact. ( I used to do a lot of Guerrilla parasailing, but that needs less crowded venues ) If the video was NOT meant to raise questions as to the fall of the civilization whose ruins they ski through, why did they make it there? | ||

Is this scolding because of him using the name jesus in a typed sware? If so, I just 2nd'ed his sware about 10x in my head but said Christ instead Jesus for a few of them. Silly scolding. (I wonder if G o d reads the internet? Can he read digital information??... just a curious thought) But he should have typed GEEZE, as it generally means the same thing in that context. I am not particularly religious but if anyone hasn't figured out that there is a tightly held faith in Christ here, I might suggest opening yer eyes and get the earwax out. Impugning God is the worst thing you can do on Badweb and is quite frankly, stupid. If your feelings are hurt by Blake's and other people's reaction, then I suggest you attempt to desecrate Allah on an Islamic site and report back how that went. Religion is not and has never been shoved down anyones throat on Badweb. A little respect goes a long way here on this mostly motorcycle site. It is actually quite difficult to get banned from Badweb so I suggest you go out and ride. I did yesterday and it was fantastic. | ||

There are times and places where IMO it's fitting to a setting. There are however certain comedians that seem to think that blaspheming, or other swearing is itself humorous. Let's just say that I don't share that same artistic value. I don't think Blake and I are on the exact same page as far as religion goes though. That's OK with me though. I'm probably not on the same page as a lot of folks around here. I do see Blake having concerns going beyond his personal feelings though. This is intended to be a family website, and it is on him to keep things that way. I say this as one who has personally been "scolded" by Blake in the past. I'm over it. I think he's over it. No need to make a federal case of it. | ||

It seems this all started because someone thought his religion was being insulted. He was wrong. No one had mentioned Obama. To be fair, I often insult religions when they are evil constructs of evil men to conquer and rule. I'd probably be an arch heretic and be burned at the stake if I lived in the City ruled by Emperor Justinian 1500 odd years ago. Today I'm in danger from a few "fake gods" that have radical intolerant religions that have a history of mass murder and oppression. So are you. | ||

I wrote Blake and asked that the posts be removed. If I can't say it in a meeting on a construction job, it has no place here. It's neither political nor heavy handed. Some folks simply lack manners and should not be allowed to taint the area. Diversity of opinion is welcome. While I may disagree with Spidy in opinion, I know him to be a smart and thoughtful person so I listen and learn. In situations like this, it's just a question of how long until someone plays free and loose with the facts and starts throwing around the "ban" accusation. I give the man credit, he's voluntarily avoided any further escalation of the issue. That speaks well of him. Always telling when discussion of the issue ceases, turning instead towards personal attack. It is pure miserableness. Court cannot be thanked enough, along with a significant number of others here who help look after the decorum of the place. To all of you, THANK YOU! | ||
