Is that the same GM that's pulling a major brand out of the European market, and now is not going to pay back the loans?

The Loans they told you they paid back, but actually replaced them with other loans, of your money?

Yes, the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, and the middle gets poor, whenever they take your money and give it to someone else.

The best investment today is to bribe Barry. They actually have a program where you bribe them $500,000 and get to have lunch once a month with the President to pitch your deal. Past winners in the Bribe the President sweepstakes include Solyndra, Martin Guitar, GE, a lot of federal Unions, ( and you would not believe how many of them there are ) and the Oil Rich Middle East counties that don't have to compete with Canadian Oil in America.

To be fair, even when you Bribe Barry, he may tell the world you are rich and greedy scum, blame you for everything he's done wrong, and promise an investigation that no one ever hears about again, but you'll still get taxpayers money. And, to be fair, not everyone has the right ambition or connections to make the 45 million to 1+ billion dollar super deals. Most have to settle for 15-30 million which is still a really decent ROI.

If you have some college/sorority/Communist Party connections, though, you make out. And just as good for getting taxpayer dollars is being a huge union that pays protesters to harass folk at Barry's political enemies gathering. The Sons Of ACORN don't contribute much cash ( a lot compared to what we make a year ) but lots of willing thugs, protesters, and most important of all, people willing to vote multiple times for a hot meal and a cold bottle.

GM . . let's be clear . . . is in the crapper.

quote:

In a new report, the Treasury Department says it expects to lose more than $25 billion on its bailout of the auto industry during the financial crisis.

That's a big number, more than a quarter of the total cost of the bailout. But General Motors (GM) had record profits last year -- and GM's former CEO said that the company had "paid back" the Feds, as did Chrysler.

How can this add up? And what has to happen for taxpayers to get their money back?

Paid in Full ... but Not in Cash

The federal government spent about $85 billion bailing out the auto industry during the economic crisis -- about $25 billion under President George W. Bush during his last days in office, the rest under President Obama.

Not all of that went to GM -- about $12 billion went to save Chrysler, and some went to Ally Financial, formerly GM's financing arm, and some other players -- but GM got the lion's share, just under $50 billion.

Technically, under the terms of the bailout, GM has in fact paid back its obligation to taxpayers. Its payments were a mix of cash and GM stock, which is exactly what was called for in the agreement.

In fact, the automaker did everything it could to pay off its loan early: It made the last cash payment, $5.8 billion worth, in April 2010. That was years ahead of schedule.

So why does the Treasury say that it's still out over $25 billion?

Several reasons, but here's a big one: GM's stock price hasn't played along.

Get the Jumper Cables

GM's "payment" to the Feds included stock. A lot of stock. The government has sold some, but it still owns 500 million shares of General Motors.

GM's stock rose to almost $39 after its return to the public markets in late 2010, but it's been all downhill since. Right now, GM is stuck around $20 to $21 a share, a range it has been in for a while.

Here's the problem: For the Feds to break even on the bailout, the shares of GM still owned by the Treasury have to get up to around $53 a share.

Here's a story about the $9,700,000,000 the feds have lost, thus far, on their tinkering with GM.

Nice little neighborhood organizers from Chicago, light on business and economic education, should stay the away from the free markets.

Sorry its not working out for you

Thanks. Especially when my 401k, which tanked during the last years of the Clinton Admin, recovered during the Bush Admin. and then fell off the cliff when Obama was nominated, is now back up to a great level. ( not enough to live on, but hey, who's is? ..... Oh, yeah, Congress )

The only fly in the pie here is that when the bubble bursts, I'm in the dumper again, and the threat that Congress will steal my 401k and promise to dole out your money to me later.

Merry Christmas.

I do hope they stop the easing soon so the dollar recovers its buying power.

It's devalued. That virtually never recovers. I thought you claimed to have some education on economics.

I too have long believed that Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK. I recall the wonderfully written scene in "Full Metal Jacket" where the DI spoke with pride that Lee had learned to shoot in the Marines, and that he expected his maggot recruits to learn as well. I joke that The Comedian had been involved ( "Watchmen" ) or that JFK himself was ( "Red Dwarf" ) but I was joking. ( I have a rough sense of humor sometimes ) I thought while it was vaguely possible that the CIA or the Mafia were involved, it made a lot of sense that an Ex-Marine who had defected to the Soviet Union to be a KGB spy, and was rejected for being a flake, was a far more likely candidate.

I never believed Barack Hussein Obama was from Kenya. I didn't even care that he actually has a couple of semi-legal aka's. Barry Soetoro, Barry Dunham. And a few others I don't know, like the name on the passport he used to go to Pakistan when it was in fact illegal for a US citizen to do so.

I was kinda amused that his publishing company publicized him as being born in Kenya, and despite the evidence that he's really clueless what goes on in the country he's the Dear Leader of, ( from his own mouth ) I simply can't believe that a Metrosexual self loving fellow like Barry ( yes, his legal name ) never looked at his own PR material. It would be unnatural.

I knew he lied. I don't even know HOW to make my college transcripts and means of paying for college "sealed" so no one can know. It would be handy if I did, so I could hide that "D" in Psychology I richly earned by telling the Professor that his favorite Person Of All Time, Freud, was a Mother obsessed cocaine fiend, or perhaps then I could lie on Employment forms about my membership in the Student Council, where I was not, instead of the Sky Sports Club, where we did guerrilla parasailing behind a truck where ever we could find a road with no traffic or powerlines. Getting busted on campus doing open air wind tunnel experiments with a skier on top of my van hooked up to a scale to refine his tuck position wouldn't embarrass me if I wanted to go into public service. It'd be nice.

I then found out his own biography was written by an unrepentant mass murdering anarchist communist who began Obama's political career in his living room, and then, recently, Obama's minions admitted that his girlfriend in his biography was a "composite" character, and yes, a few other things he's claimed were, shall we say, made up?

Well I still thought the Conspiracy Theory types were a little nuts. Just because he lies about, well, nearly everything, doesn't mean he's really an agent of a hostile foreign power.

Except I cannot find any evidence in his actions his whole life to say he is not.

"Tell Vladimir I can be more Flexible after the Election".

He's freaking Gumby.

dollar is printed and minted in debt from the moment it has been inked. Look into how the Fed works - each note is ISSUED at a devalued number and rated against the previous lent/print run .... and in more fun - they 'lease' it to you
because they can confiscate it at any time for ALL Debts Public and Private; it has been done before - it will be done again.

for something that will really cook the noodle - go look at how they 'make' money by fixing interest to themselves at low rates for issue, but 'sell' to banks at higher rates .... for the mere instance of delivering the notes to the bank.

You ordered the 12 chicken nugget meal - we are keeping two of them, and you will owe us 6 later - Enjoy your meal.

So what does every initiative of the Obama era have in common? Obamacare, Obamaphones, Social Security disability expansion, 50 million people on food stamps . . . The assumption is that mass, multi-generational dependency is now a permanent feature of life. A coastal elite will devise ever smarter and slicker trinkets, and pretty much everyone else will be a member of either the dependency class or the vast bureaucracy that ministers to them. And, if you’re wondering why every Big Government program assumes you’re a feeble child, that’s because a citizenry without “work and purpose” is ultimately incompatible with liberty. The elites think a smart society will be wealthy enough to relieve the masses from the need to work. In reality, it would be neo-feudal, but with fatter, sicker peasants. It wouldn’t just be “economic inequality,” but a far more profound kind, and seething with resentments.

spent the afternoon doing some old Russian reading - seems that the O and his ideology is NOTHING new (I certainly never believed it was)

From Pyshkin's 'A Woman's World'
It was more beneficial and 'benevolent' to have beggars than it was to have workers - for if a worker was paid to do nothing - surely they would not - but if a beggar were paid in alms from society - surely there could be found pity and gratitude in the transaction - of benefactor and of the wretched .....

um yeah. Pyshkin said it with tongue in cheek - this guy lives it.

There is anecdotal evidence that the students and parents at San Dieguito Academy, a high school located in extremely Liberal Encinitas, Califorinia, are turning their backs on Obama. I have a spy in the school. Previously, SDA was a fervent hotbed of support for Obama. Lies and injustice eventually come to light.

Obama is intent on burying future generations with debt in return for temporary political power for the elite.

Europe always took for granted a U.S.-led NATO for its security and a booming free-market American economy for its exports. Given that unquestioned guarantee, it was easy to opportunistically ankle-bite America. The Euros dreamed that they wanted Obama as a partner in neo-socialism, climate change activism, and non-alignment foreign policy. Well, they got what they wanted, only to discover that the Western world does not work with two European Unions. For an adolescent to dream of cradle-to-grave entitlements and utopian peace, there must be an adult to ensure free markets and military preparedness.

Stepping aside from the personalities, and individuals, and discussing the facts... for a moment.

The reason we have a Republic, is that Democracies have a tendency to go off the deep end.

Wanna be Dictators Ride that into Power. ( no names, but I'm sure you can think of a few )

Sometimes it's a charismatic leader calling for war ( Greece, Germany ) The people of Syracuse or Poland had done no real harm to their invaders, but they suffered at the hands of ambitious men who called upon the crowd to bay for dogs of war.

Often, more and more, it's Bread a circuses ( Rome ) lifetime care ( Western Europe ) High Speed Internet as a Right ( USA ) where one can vote yourself more stuff. It's the calling card for Socialism, where the promises cannot be kept because the math just doesn't work. The seduction of the false utopia. ( it's never worked )

And from time immemorial, the call to hate a group or a religion or a lifestyle. ( Kill the Huttites!/Burn the Witch! )

So. We put a layer of bureaucrats between the Mob and their Lusts.

Truth to tell I want the process to be slow and deliberate.

Consider the possibilities. We extensively discussed here the NYC bike mob assault on the "Range Rover" guy. If some Senator, or other pol had decided to ride that one for a power boost, group rides might be outlawed. Sure first he'd have to crank up some general heat, but the media might play along and that footage would be everywhere. Along with talk show guests to pimp the anger. A simple majority vote by a fraction of the voters could make 4 bikes together a target for persecution.

Re-Election Oriented Professional Politicians live by the poll, and thus do the same thing, sometimes faster.

Didn't happen, but it does. Played with Lawn Darts lately?

Just restating the obvious, I guess.

Michelle was pretty miffed at hubby for flirting with the hottie Danish Prime Minister chick. It wasn't just a single photograph. Michelle was so pissed that she interposed herself between the two flirtbirds. What Obama isn't getting from Mrs. Obama is now what Obama is doing to America. Priceless.
