215,000 New Hires? GREAT! that's very close to break even, where unemployment does not rise.

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t15.htm

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm

The downsides are.
1. That's a cyclical number, and reflects the many part time Christmas Season employees, most will lose their jobs next month.
2. Best for a year? So we lost jobs the other 11 months. Unemployment is still rising.
3. It does not accurately reflect the short "layoff" of Federal workers, so is actually pessimistic........ but it will be lowered next month with no fanfare, as they have been optimistic, the rest of the last 5 years. In some "isolated cases" they just lie, like before the election last year.

Still, pessimism and rising unemployment aside, that's good news.

I'm not sure what the Putin comment is about. Please explain.

"Mission Accomplished". Yes, indeed. It was a fine tribute to the men and women of the Carrier task force that had been many months at sea, flew many dangerous missions, soundly defeated the biggest Armed Force in the region, and was finally going home. Mission Accomplished.

Only &^%$s deliberately trying to mock Bush ( who was really easy to mock ) put the completely false spin that that sign was meant for anyone else. Your repetition of that propaganda does not become you.

They even mocked him being the first US President to land on an Aircraft Carrier while in office in a Jet plane. ( Bush's Father GHW Bush, flew Avengers in WW2, off carriers, and was shot down and rescued by Submarine. Hell of a day to go from sea level to a couple miles up to a hundred feet below. GW Bush was a F-102 pilot, but that's not a carrier plane by any stretch. ) Presidents have landed on carrier from helicopters, but the Lincoln was too far offshore for that.

Personally I give him some credit for balls, since being a passenger in a COD landing on a Carrier is risky. Not so much credit to his staff for messing up a PR event.

If you don't remember Barry bombing Libya, do you remember Ron bombing Libya? ( 1986 )

My favorite "thing" from that attack was the complaint from the French that their Embassy in Tripoli has been hit by a US bomb. The picture clearly showed a crater in the yard with the back end of a SA-2 Soviet anti aircraft missile ( SAM ) sticking out of it. What goes up, almost always come down. No US bombs were anywhere near their Embassy, but the "low information" news services never caught it, even though anyone who has a clue did.

http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsh eet.asp?id=334

I agree that Lt. Kadaffi was a bad guy. Nasty piece of work. He gave up his WMD program after we took out Saddam, and pulled in his horns for quite a while.

Can you tell me why Barrack Obama decided it was time to have a little war for oil on Libya? For the French? For the MB? For PR? your opinion please.

I admit I don't know too much more, I just watched it on tv.

How about your opinion on what our foreign policy is?

What do you think about the volatility of the weather? (climate change?)

A lot of death and destruction in the world, weather related.

And not really a big Putin fan, though I wonder about his super bowl ring.

I'll catch up with you later on the climate change thread.

I can save you a lot of time.

The Climate Changes. Always has. Period.

Ask the Viking Colony on Vineland, Or Greenland. Or the Pueblo Cliff Dwellers, or the citizens of Petra.... Oh. Wait, you can't. They don't live there anymore, because the Climate Changed.

Storms have killed people. Since there were people.

Volcanoes and Earthquakes, too. I assume someone has been killed by Meteorites as well, but don't have any numbers.

None of the above is Obama's fault, or to his credit, they just are. ( unlike those killed by Guns Obama had Smuggled to a couple of different Countries. )

I too am not a Putin fan.

Having a KGB agent in charge of a country makes me feel about like when we had a CIA guy in charge. Not so great.

Honestly, how does one who complains about a war under the Bush administration not know anything about a war to overthrow a government waged just two years ago?

Garry, you sound concerned about politics. What's the deal though? How did this happen? Is it your own selective filtering of news? Or perhaps you need to expand your source of news. Something has gone seriously wrong.

garryb,

I know it isn't easy to chime in when you disagree with a brilliant pack of Conservatives such as us. Please provide commentary, not just links, about why you think Obama is not a liar, why you do or don't support Obamacare, why you do or don't support Obama's illegal bombing of Libya, bowing down to Iran, betrayal of Israel, being wishy washy on Syria. I really need to know how you think. I have shared with you repeatedly why this pResident is incompetent or worse. Please show the courtesy of responding and don't bring President Bush into your arguments as that is not germane.

Thanks.

Nor about the UN report showing a slowdown in "global warming". If you're in NYC . . . give me a shout and I'll take you on a tour of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory . . perhaps the premier center of earth science in the world.

You've a lot to learn but the fact is your here, you're engaged and there is hope.

Those "best in a year" employment statistics are miserable . . . . not unlike the enrollment numbers (the ones that the website folks swear they are unable to capture)

Your and my 401K's are skyrocketing . . . I love it . . . I'm 100% in equities . . . but I've got my hand on the lever . . once those printing presses stop, with the "backdoor bailout" of Wall Street . . . all bets are off.

Thanks for the invite Court and good to see your invested in this country.

Clearly this country has had the strongest rebound since Bushes world economic debacle.

I don't know if we are warming or cooling, but I do know we have had accelerating destruction and death from weather related events.

Didn't you see some in your neck of the woods?

If I wake one guy up that the media puts to sleep - I see it as a benefit.
If I learn one thing that I did not know the day before - I see it as a benefit.
If I can make contact and/or support engines of the economy - I see it as a benefit.

otherwise - I would just spend my time watching the Khardasians, White Trash Theater, or the Bieber on Tour.

REP. BOB GOODLATTE (R-VA): Professor Turley, the constitution, the system of separated powers is not simply about stopping one branch of government from usurping another. It's about protecting the liberty of Americans from the dangers of concentrated government power. How does the president's unilateral modification of act of Congress affect both the balance of power between the political branches and the liberty interests of the American people?

JONATHAN TURLEY: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. The danger is quite severe. The problem with what the president is doing is that he's not simply posing a danger to the constitutional system. He's becoming the very danger the Constitution was designed to avoid. That is the concentration of power in every single branch.

This Newtonian orbit that the three branches exist in is a delicate one but it is designed to prevent this type of concentration. There is two trends going on which should be of equal concern to all members of Congress. One is that we have had the radical expansion of presidential powers under both President Bush and President Obama. We have what many once called an imperial presidency model of largely unchecked authority. And with that trend we also have the continued rise of this fourth branch. We have agencies that are quite large that issue regulations. The Supreme Court said recently that agencies could actually define their own or interpret their own jurisdiction.

How do you know this? Is from the same news sources that have you so well informed about the most recent war that our country started without telling the people why? I'm really curious where you get what you know.

I do know if we are warming or cooling. The answer is YES. I know how to support both. That really isn't very important though. What's important is why.

More people out of work. More people on "assistance".
I won't argue about Clinton's recession being over about 2 1/2 years into Bush's term, just ask how this is a rebound.

The current economy is in the crapper.

Don't let the current stock market, arguably a back-door bail out of Wall Street . . .blind you. I love what it's done to my 401K but I'm not stupid.

If I maxed out my credit cards and stood on the balcony tossing a $150,000 in $1 bills down of 3 Badwebbers below . . . "WE are not rich".

There is no, absolutely none, substantive evidence that mankind is tossing the palest into some kind of meteorological chaos.

Quite correct that my area . . . in which 4 of the 5 "named storms" we've responded to in the last 30 years have occurred in the last 2 years . . . has seen lots of weather.

But the keen mind knows that the current "terrible weather" pales in comparison to a couple cycles in the last 100 years. Weather, by it's natural, is cyclical.

If . . you want to do one good thing to prevent damage to the environment . . shut down production of the Chevrolet Volt. It's doubtful that any diesel school bus will ever inflict as much damage from green house gasses as producing the batteries for that ridiculous social bailout/experiment.

Little surprise that this week a judge has approved Detroit's ability to declare bankruptcy, Chevrolet has announced plans (this morning) to pull the Chevrolet brand out of Europe and the feds, last week, finally conceded they'd never get their bailout money back from GM and have announced plans to liquidate the federal interests in GM and take the write off.

If my company was "recovering" like this . . . .my shareholders would have me out on my ass.

The only reason, with the exception of the tampering by the Obama administration, for the jobless figures moving downward a bit . . is that, for the first time in history, people have lost faith and quit looking for work.

We are better people and deserve better leaders than this embarrassing social experiment we're the current victims of.

City, that article hurt my brain! I think I may have had a minor aneurism at this point...

quote:

Reduced austerity would end a period when governments raised taxes and cut public spending, reining in their economies, as they tried to restore the fiscal order they abandoned to fight the worldwide recession.

So, in short, we are returning to a policy that caused us to have to "restore the fiscal order". Picture an emoticon of a guy clubbing himself in the head with a hammer, repeatedly.
