Zane, I don't think so. That would only be true if the staffers were the same for every candidate that is elected. The candidates pick their staffers and most likely they aren't going to pick people they are not comfortable with and who weren't around during their campaign.

There really is no downside to Term Limits and the only people who would oppose it are life long politicians. I find it funny that you hear a Senator or Congressman advocate for Terms Limits but strangely the idea never comes up for a vote. I wonder why?

About Education ... Common Core needs to be done away with and fast. It is nothing but indoctrination and brainwashing all designed to create good subjects.

We need to teach kids how to think independently and creatively. Not teach them how to take tests well with the curriculum established by some idiot in Washington.

I heard an idea that is so ahead of its time that my first inclination was to say impossible.

It was a similar thought when Apple announced that they would no longer have a 3.5" microfloppy drive in their computers. It seemed like total heresy yet it was a brilliant, forward looking move.

The idea is that Congressmen do not live in Washington DC and operate in their home constituencies. Teleconferencing is adequate now and will only improve. This will be a Virtual Congress. Think about it:

* "Ordinary" people can not afford to be a Representative and maintain a residence in their home state as well as Washington DC.
* This will break the power of Lobbyists as power is distributed, not concentrated.
* The terrorist thread is reduced for the same reason.
* Politicians are truly of AND near the people.

Congress can have a physical meeting once a year in Washington.

Crazy idea? Why would anyone get rid of the microfloppy drive?

I had a similar epiphany about the budget and our tax forms.
Why not do a line-by-line percentage division of our tax bill to fund various departments or programs, voluntarily?
If you believe that the D.o.D is a worthy establishment and is well-run, you might allocate the lion's share to them, while shorting the useless Dept. of Education. If no one gives them money, they wither and die. Each would have to make their case to the People as to their necessity or value. If you want to sign your money over to the poor, then give it all to HHS. 100% tax credit for charitable donations to increase the efficiency of charity. A truly voluntary tax system, eh?

Earlier, I stated that term limits for the Legislative Branch is an achievable goal for the COS.

Upon further reflection and discussion, a proposal for term limits of the Supreme Court should also be pursued. The limit would be, say 12 years, which would span across three Presidential cycles. This would mathematically prevent the same President from nominating a given justice position except in the case of death or incapacitation of the given justice. At the time of confirmation, the political "rigour of the day" twelve years out will be unclear. Our Framers mistakenly believed that a lifetime position of the Supreme Court would make it free of politics. Unfortunately, this has been proven to be untrue and the SCOTUS is mired in political persuasion. Periodic flushing the lines is a good thing in plumbing. So it goes with ALL politicians, including justices.

What do you think?

I have attempted to avoid direct criticism of the current administration in this thread. On one level, Obama is merely a symptom, not a cause of the disease rotting America. That debate is best left for the "President 0" thread.

The Federal Government is growing exponentially as a Leviathan not subject to the US Constitution. This must be stopped or America falls into decay and poverty for all. A successful COS will indirectly start dismantling this Fourth Estate which is un-Constitutional.

I am leaning towards a COS even with the inherent risks that it imposes that may occur to our great country if the Convention is overrun by anti-American Statists.

I know many of you don't pay much attention to the right-wing noise machine, and when you do dismiss what you hear for obvious reaons -- like they're generally full of shit....
There is a meeting of representatives from at least 30 states scheduled just three days from now, Saturday, December 7, at the library in Mount Vernon.

Reflections on the Mt. Vernon Assembly
Michael Farris ~ Dec 9, 2013

Yesterday, approximately 100 state legislators from over 30 states met at George Washington's home in Mount Vernon, VA. The meeting's purpose was to begin drafting the procedural rules for a Convention of States. I was not present at the gathering (only state legislators were allowed to attend), but earlier in the week I had a face to face conversation with the leadership of the Mount Vernon Assembly.

We are beginning to reach critical mass in our efforts to use Article V of the Constitution to rein in the power of the federal government. The Mount Vernon Assembly is one of the major steps in that effort.

Superb resource:

quote:

About Us

Since the publication of Mark Levin’s book, The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic in August 2013 , more people are joining the call for a Convention of the States for proposing Amendments, as provided for in Article V. of the Constitution of The United States of America.

We discuss the Liberty Amendments every Monday at TheRightScoop Blog - http://therightscoop.com/mt-vernon-assembly-plans- second-meetup-next-year/

During discussions with friends on this topic, we realized we needed a way to track our progress on contacting, securing commitment of, and followup on each of the legislators in the fifty states. We need a way to monitor the progress.

That’s the point: this site - ArticleFiveProcess.com — was developed to help us track and see our progress at a glance. The heat map on the front page quickly shows how things are progressing, as far as getting the legislatures to pass the necessary resolutions. Further, this site serves as a general information resource to help get the Article Five process underway.

Can this movement grow? As the sewage spill emanating from Washington geometrically grows, eventually most Americans will reluctantly agree to a COS.

quote:

A realistic plan looks like this. There are 4000 state legislative house districts in the 40 states most likely to support a convention. If we build a grassroots organization in 75% of those districts, we can put significant pressure on the members of the state legislatures to pass a resolution calling for a Convention of States. That grassroots organization needs just one captain in each of these 3000 districts and a minimum of 100 voters who will contact their state legislators to support a convention for the purpose of limiting the power of Washington, D.C. We know we can reach these numbers. We know we can build this network of citizens.

Citizens for Self-Governance has launched a project that will make this plan a reality. We were working on this even before Levin released his book, and now we are ready to start building support. Levin has catapulted this idea into the national spotlight -- we have the plan to implement it.

from Forbes.com

quote:

What could be bigger news than a presidential race? According to Ralph Benko, journalist and contributor to Forbes.com, a Convention of States is going to be the top story in two years' time. In his article, Benko describes the Mt. Vernon Assembly and its importance to the history of the United States. He mentions the Convention of States Project as one of the primary leaders in the Article V movement, and praises the state legislators who kicked-started the process in Mt. Vernon.

The ONLY thing, aside from open armed revolt and the deaths of millions of Americans, that can stem the tide of Federal over reach is a Constitutional Convention with requisite adoption of legislative output.

We have reached a point whereby there is a significant portion of the population which views the Constitution as an obstacle and seeks an unrestrained Federal Government imbued with unlimited power.

If you believe in the interstate commerce clause and general welfare clause, is there ANY power denied to the Federal Government?

I've stopped debating policy for the most part and begun simply identifying individuals as those who I want in my foxhole vs. those I will have to shoot.

If the Constitutional Convention fails, the bullet is the last and only recourse. Either you will kill me and with me all hope of liberty or I will kill you to preserve what liberty I can.

There is no middle ground. There is no compromise. This fight is to the death.

Prepare accordingly.

>>>And this I believe is very important; wait until after the 2016 elections and see what direction our country takes with a new president and regime to let this country work as it has succeeded for most of its life.

It will all be over and far too late after 2016. Waiting till then guarantees failure.

Whisperstealth: "It will all be over and far too late after 2016. Waiting till then guarantees failure."

The previous sentence was my statement and I have to stand by it and politely disagree with you. This great country of ours has been through many a dire circumstance before and some much more serious then what is presently happening. To jump into something without a considerable amount of knowledge and forethought is a way of guaranteeing failure. Our founding fathers were careful in constructing a form of government that CAN work if ALL have a constructive input to it through the vote. Why in the world would we not want to try that first?

Hey Bob, As with many things I say concerning this nation, I hope I'm wrong. I'd rather be wrong and see this country right the ship, but I just don't feel that way in my heart or mind. This country may have been in more dire circumstances before, but I'm very hard pressed to believe it has ever been so under attack by internal forces - people claiming to be Loyal Americans. I believe that this nation will cease to be a democracy after the 2016 elections, if it hasn't already. And it will be the people that knowingly or unknowingly vote democracy out the window.

>>> I believe that this nation will cease to be a democracy after the 2016 elections, if it hasn't already.

We've never been a Democracy, but that is more and more where it appears we're heading. The Democrats entire agenda is to get over half of Americans dependent upon the forced confiscation and redistribution of the earnings from the remainder. Democracy is mob rule, two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.

America is a Constitutional Republic, thus the Democrat view of the Constitution as a "living, breathing, evolving" document. They want its meaning to conform to their personal politics. They are for the most part a bunch of deceivers.

Permit the murder of unborn babies but deny people the right to effectively defend themselves from thugs, rapists, and murderers. These are core to the Democrat platform. What else do you need to know? If someone won't defend the right to life of a late term baby, the most innocent and helpless among us, what makes anyone believe that such people will ever make the tough choices to ensure that the rights of others are protected? These are the people who ignore rights when it is convenient for them. It's how genocide happens.

Back on topic, my apprehension re: the Convention of States is by opening it up, it also opens up the possible co-option by the Statists, in the name of "democracy," and "rights."
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
