Like the tittle says.

I'm going in for a angiogram this Friday.
I know the basics.... going in my thru my groin and putting some dye in my grape while they take a pic or two.

My main concern is recovery time

Yep, about 12 years ago. I can't really tell you about the recovery time, as I wound up getting a 3X CABG the next day, and the recovery time for that was a WHILE.

IIRC, if I hadn't had the surgery, I'd have spent the night in the hospital for observation, and I'd have had to take it easy (walking around is OK, but not much more than that) for a week or so after that. You do NOT want that incision coming open again.

They give you pretty good "mood enhancing" drugs before the procedure, and a local anesthetic for the actual incision. No discomfort that I can remember with that. The actual angiogram procedure is a little hairy- when they inject the dye, you get a real rush of heat up through your body. It's not painful or anything, but it can be pretty disconcerting. I was able to watch the screen showing the dye distribution and the cardiologist pointed out where I had problems. NOT a good day for me, but I got through it, and no problems since.

Good luck with your test.

Just had one last week. They sent me home the same day. They'll want you to take it easy for a week or so. And you want to as the Femoral Artery is not some place you want to have bleeding. Other than that it's no big deal You'll be a little sore where they go in at but that's all

In some hospitals they go in through the wrist. Less discomfort sitting, just don't lift stuff with that hand for a few days.

Same with stents.

ya see.... the thing is.... Slayer is in concert on Sunday night.

I know to stay out of the pit... but do you think standing for a couple of hours is out of the question.

Mark- don't ask us, ask the doc, and DO what he says. A sliced femoral artery is nothing to screw around with.

I know and I will.... SLAYER!

Jeff Hanneman died last year and that was a wake up call.
I keep passing up on things I want to do or see and seeing Slayer in concert was on the list.
Pretty soon Ozzy will retire or get struck by lightning... and I'm not getting any younger

Glad you are getting checked out. Hopefully they won't find anything, and if they do find something hopefully it'll be an easy fix. Whichever way it turns out, I hope you get to see Slayer.

I am not a doctor, but I DO have coronary heart disease.

I did not have an angioplasty, my doctor recommended medical treatment instead.

This famous "Courage" study by the Harvard Medical School explains why:

http://www.health.harvard.edu/family-health-guide/ updates/medication-vs-stents-for-heart-disease-tre atment

The main beneficiaries of these non emergency angioplasties are the doctors and hospitals that do them. Patients do no better than those who have not had them.

May I assume that your Doctor didn't want to confuse you by referring you to this study?

I "may" have a brain aneurysm.

The MRI and MRA had something on it but it wasn't clear enough for them to say one way or the other. woo hoo for me.

They did succeed to get my wife's panties in a bunch.

Before we went to see the doc I told her they are just covering their asses.... and that's pretty much what he said during her interrogation.

I had one 2 years ago and standing should be fine. Mine hurt like hell for a couple days and NO LIFTING ANYTHING!! Those intravenous suture anchors are really good and dissolve in a couple weeks and you wont even bee able to see the scar in a couple months. I had a stent in my circumflex artery. We have bad hearts in my family on both sides.

Wolf; I had an angiogram prior to my heart surgery. I strongly suggest that you keep a very low profile for a few days. For me, it meant missing the New York IMS show, which I was really looking forward to. It may be a drag to miss a concert, but it would be even more of a drag if you started gushing blood from your leg.
There will be other concerts.

I wouldn't plan on the concert. Seriously.

I would ask your doc if he has a X-box or a Playstation. It doesn't matter which one. If he doesn't play video games get a different doc.

Had it in 2000. They played "WAR" during the procedure. We all sang together and had a blast. Of course I had the cocktail. Worst part was the pinch when they glued me shut. Not really anything. First meal the Hospital fed me after was a cheese burger, Lays potato chips, and a Coke. Made me walk 1 lap of the ward then dress and go home.

it was all for not! I am good to go!!

worst part about it was when they gave me the local.
When they put the dye in I would see little bolts of yellowish orange bolts of lightning. That was kinda neat... The bastards shaved half my junk. That'll be fun when it starts to grow back. All in all, not a bad ride... but I would advise you avoid taking the trip in the first place.... Take care of yourselves!

Doc said no mosh pit or body surfing but other than that I should be good to go for \m/ Slayer \m/ tonight

Thanks for all well wishes!! I am good to go!!

Oh, and since you are half shaved.....now you can get those pesky little bastards that have you scratching about all of the time!

With that side already shaved.....set the other side on fire.....stab the little bastards with an ice pick as they come running out! Crabbing, what could be more fun?

The Slayer show was a lot better than I thought was going to be.

I was thinking a band that has been around for over 30 plus years may have lost a step or two.
That was not the case. They played loud, long and the crowd was crazy.

So if you are even a little bit of a Slayer fan. I would say go see them if you get the chance.

and thanks again for keeping me in your thoughts!
or in Vern's case, thanks for keeping me in you thought

I hope to see some of you ding dongs in August!

Thought..... singular.....I see what you did there!

What if the band lost several steps, and you lost just as many, you would not even know if they suck now!

Loud, long, and crazy....= Can't hear(turned it all up), can't remember when to quit or see the clock, Crazy.....well, old people after a life time of head banging and alcohol/drug use, now on prescription meds.

Jim, I am just doing what I can to help those with their elevators impaired get along in this world.
