Gee, Ferris, I dunno, 70% disapproval rating on Congress seems low.

I welcome the actual dialog. As opposed to snark and duck. With dialog you at least have the possibility of actual facts and convincing others as to the truth.

I think we have a major cognitive break here. I doubt many of us here have an awe for Congress. Telling us that Congress sucks, so we are wrong, when WE say Congress sucks, seems to be missing the big point. Congress sucks.

Detroit as the result of R mismanagement? I'm sorry, did I miss the R leadership in Detroit? I was under the impression they've had half a century of D rule. Please correct me on this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit#Politics

Politically, the city consistently supports the Democratic Party in state, local and national elections. According to a study released by the Bay Area Center for Voting Research, Detroit is the most "liberal" large city in America,[206] measuring only the percentage of city residents who voted for the Democratic Party.[207]

In 2000, the City requested an investigation by the United States Justice Department into the Detroit Police Department which was concluded in 2003 over allegations regarding its use of force and civil rights violations. The city proceeded with a major reorganization of the Detroit Police Department.[208]

Beginning with its incorporation in 1802, Detroit has had a total of 74 mayors. Detroit's last mayor from the Republican Party was Louis Miriani who served from 1957 to 1962. In 1973, the city elected its first black mayor, Coleman Young. Despite development efforts, his combative style during his five terms in office was not well received by many suburban residents.[209] Mayor Dennis Archer, a former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, refocused the city's attention on redevelopment with a plan to permit three casinos downtown. By 2008, three major casino resort hotels established operations in the city.

yep 50 years.

In fact, except for a short time starting in the Clinton Admin. Congress has been dominated by D's since the Great Depression.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Us_congress#The_commi ttee_era_.281910s.E2.80.931960s.29

There has been increasing public dissatisfaction with Congress,[56] with extremely low approval ratings[57][58] which dropped to 5% in October 2013.[59]

kind of amazing it's so high.

>Tape a one Hundred Dollar Bill to your forehead and walk through Detroit Michigan, it's already happen here. I do believe if the Republican Party had there way it would be Nation Wide by now.

I may have made a mistake here.

Patches, WHICH website had the 70-79% poll ratings? I was responding to the Youtube Huffpost editorial.

You would be right if you stated that the Bill Whittle rant was just as biased. It is. It also happens to be far less of a deliberate lie. Bill might be dead wrong on a few of his points, but I really don't believe he's parroting propaganda. The Huffpost vids are solid parrot. And have very little relation to reality.

Did I agree with Senator Cruz's tactics and strategy in this protest against a trillion dollar failure called the ACA? Not exactly. I agree that the ACA needs desperately to be reformed, parts of it delayed, and the bulk of it discarded.

The good parts, all 3-12 of them need to be made legal, just and proper law, not whims of the Secretary, and certainly not laws that the President can waive, illegally, for those who bribe him enough.

One of the last CR's passed by the House gave Obama every penny he wanted, but wanted to stop that illegal and immoral use of power to break the very act his minions kept chanting as "the law of the land". Obama refused to obey the law he insisted on, and threatened to veto the CR, should Harry in the Senate be so stupid as to allow a vote, at all.

Who was it you believed wanted a sweet deal with the law not applying to them?

I thought the CR was, perhaps, the wrong venue for this effort, but I'm not an expert in BS political strategies, and besides, Ted never asked me. I understand why he didn't, I'm not in his State. His Primary responsibility is the Constitution, the citizens of his State, and the Citizens of the United States, in that order.

BECAUSE of the Constitution, I feel free to criticize Sen. Cruz. Or President Obama.

In this case I blame Obama far more than Cruz. But's that's pretty obvious. I don't hide my feelings well, but I can be convinced I'm wrong if presented with facts, and reason.

And, unfortunately, facts, and reason, are thin on the ground today. And nearly non existent in the nightly news. In this recent debacle, I heard that ABC did 41 reports on how it was all the R's fault. 0 on how it was the D's.

Now, I just "heard" that, and have no references or proof, but I certainly believe it, don't you?

For another rant on how criminally bad the Media is, how about this one?

The thing I don't understand when people point to a poll claiming that XX% disapprove of congress, is that they seem to do so trying to say that it somehow supports their ideology. I just don't get that thinking. Are they really that simple minded to think that all disapproval is support for their view? I would disapprove of about 30% of congress just on pure corruption. That still allows for a lot of corrupt politicians BTW. About 50% on ideological differences. About 80% for lacking the spine to take a solid stand for their ideologies. I have no idea how someone else would take that and think I want politicians to follow THEIR ideology though. The polls seldom get into the details of what isn't liked BTW. The polls do get published in conjunction with other issues though, such as "Congress At Standoff With The President, Congressional Approval At New Low". It is just possible that I'm unhappy with my Congress critters, while supporting what opposition to the rPresidet there is.

Again, a view from a foreign national:
What dominates "news" in the USA is the LCD principal.
Keep it simple & make judgements (which reporters shouldn't do, they should simply report the news) based on the Lowest Common Denominator factor.
FWIW: Many people who disapprove of the ACA (Obamacare) do so because they don't think that it goes far enough in their opinion.
(I know, 'cause it said so in the Guardian!)

Ah! George had quite a way with words.

"keep re-electing this rich C......ers who don't give a F... about them".

So true. How many in the Senate are new? If they are not, the term "rich C.......ers who don't give a F..." applies, almost universally.

Thanks Patches. That classic vid show a real insight into the love you get from multi millionaires like Obama, who don't believe the law applies to them.

Sifo, Love the Obama quote on the Constitution.

America, the USA, was the first country to found itself on the concept that Men can be evil, and that Power must be limited, or the powerful will go mad with your money, your rights, your property, and consider them all theirs.

Note the many quotes from ( usually, but alas not always ) D politicians about how much of your money they will ALLOW you to keep.

Yes the Constitution is flawed, old, and the originals are becoming unreadable from time. That's ok, we made copies. Flaws can be addressed, that was wisely built in, but the "old" part, the part that "offends" the modern metrosexual city dwelling Media shills, is the part that stands up best to the test of time.

Some people want to rule you. They will lie, steal, kill to do so. This was true before man made metal tools, and is just as true today.

Government, any system, any size, is the handiest vehicle for evil men to rule you. ( doing so one person at a time stops abruptly when those types meet a Free man or woman. ) So the Founding Fathers, no saints, mind you, wrote the laws to limit the power.

When those limits are broken, there is suffering. When those limits are rejected, and preached against, you know the preachers serve evil. When a "news" guy claims the Constitution is outmoded because it's a hundred years old.......... You know his soul is sold, and his mind never even knew it.

Yes.

Senator Cruz was indeed born in Canada, and is not eligible to be President.

Senator McCain was born of US parents while his father was on active duty in Panama, in a US military hospital on a US military base in a land under US protection, so they tell me he's legal. ( not a good choice, mind you, but technicality legal )

That's opposed to some fellow who has never released a copy or photo of his birth certificate. ( not that I think anyone we might discuss was born in Kenya, but the personal details of his life are............ sealed. )

But, sure, Ted Cruz's father was born in Cuba, Oppressed by the Communist Dictator, ( although, like another person discussed on this thread, Castro did say he was not a dictator ) he had actually fought FOR Castro in the Revolution, then was brutalized for criticizing the regime. Came to the US at 18, and is the classic American Success Story. Naturalized Citizen, 2005. Way to go. Like many Cuban escapees, Ted's dad is an inspiration.

Growing up, one would suppose that young Ted got his education in the evils of Leftists from his father.

Alas for those who really like Ted, he's not going to be President.

Nor is Arnold, the "Governator" despite the joke in the movie "Demolition Man" than fine Wesley Snipes movie, about the 61st Amendment.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106697/quotes

But to your question....

Yes. We accept many people born in foreign lands as Americans. It's always been more a matter of attitude, than birthright.

It's not like we have any genetic superiority over the rest of the planet. ( no matter what idiots say ) Hell, we ARE the rest of the planet.

Bill Murray says it best. IMHO.

I got the Ted Cruz question.

The other is how do us infidels serve our State?

Or to quote without my snarky spin....
Open question, to Obama haters, how do you serve this nation?

First. "Obama haters" is a loaded definition. I will assume it's directed to any of us who do not agree with the policies, ideologies, or actions of Barack.

Second, we'd need to each individually answer for our own lives. As Citizens, individuals, a collective answer is simply ridiculous.

That's also a semi-clever trick currently en vogue with the Alinsky trained folk. You are supposed to believe that you can't have an opinion unless you've experienced the hardship of the specific group being used.

For example, I can't have an opinion of a persons actions if he is a minority because I wasn't born that minority, so I should shut up. OR I can't have an opinion on who, how, and why we fight wars, because I'm not in the service. You get the drift?

So What Have I done to Prove my worth to my society?

The question is designed to cause resentment.

Personally, I've been reasonably law abiding, ( YMMV ) paid more than my demanded taxes, and built weapons for my country to use in time of war. Also a dues paying Union member, do college level volunteer teaching, and vote. Legally.

When called upon to serve my country I did not refuse, or move to Canada, ( those were the days, he said nostalgically )

So I'm fairly secure in manhood, citizenship, and ethics. Acceptable?

On HATE.
I'll simply reply that I try not to feel hate for any man, but freely admit to disliking some of the actions and many of the lies of the current President.

When he does something I approve of, I admit it.

I think his proclaimed ideology, from his own biography, is one of lies, and has been so deliberately crafted over the last century to allow evil men to gain power.

Obama may not be ideologically driven, but there is no way to tell if he's a believer or a con man using the ideology. He was endorsed by the Communist Party USA.

On the action side, I've got the examples of Fast & Furious, The IRS Illegal political action, still ongoing.

His foreign policy deserves it's own rant.

( And I'd be very interested to hear your honest opinions, as a Marine, to the current foreign policy, if you ever want to have an honest discussion about it. I make no claims to genius in that area. )

End why I dislike, but not hate Barry.

Patches, the point of the video?

To your question. Yes. I have a 401k that some in Congress are considering stealing, so they can have the money, and they want to dole some money back out to me, like welfare, but not pay me back, per se.

Are you too in danger of them stealing your hard earned money?

Patches, I agree with you on Social Security. I'm 61 now and have the maximum into it each year since 1975 yet I'll be looked at as a leach when I start to withdraw funds. Way back then I new it was a scam but I was forced to contribute under threat of imprisonment if I did not.

Now in order to keep SS solvent after raiding its assets, the goverment may adopt means testing. Since I managed to save a respectable sum, they may deem SS payments to me as unnecessary. That's going to piss me and a lot of other people off. When they come after my 401 (k)/IRA . . .
