Why are our leaders making life as difficult as possible for the people that they are supposed to be serving. I hope we all find this outrageous that this administration would find the most painful way to deal with their political fights.

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.

So I read earlyer about the Pisgha Inn on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They had been told by the Feds to shut down. They said no, they are privately owned and run with no federal funds or employees, and the BRP remains open. Now we have armed feds guarding their driveway to keep people from entering a private business! http://www.washingtontimes.com/multimedia/image/inn-1jpg/

The Peaks of Otter Lodge is also closed. I called to confirm. They are also on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Other sources report that none of the Hindu, Muslim, or Protestant preachers in the military have been threatened. Only the Catholics.

Clear 1st Amendment violation.

I took the following pix on the Parkway this afternoon at the entrance to Groundhog Mountain, mile marker 188.8:

When I walked up to the "federal government shutdown" sign for a close-up, I saw that someone had added a heartfelt political comment:

Some folks pulled up on a Can-Am Spyder, and the four of us (my daughter was my co-pilot today) got into a lively political discussion. Turns out our new friends Bill and Rita hold our pres in the same low esteem as I.

I asked if I might take their portrait. "Sure!" I showed them the subsequent image, to which Bill responded, "Nice pic. Now then, please e-mail that to 0bama and tell him to kiss my ass."

Amen, brother.

Driving past Buford Dam yesterday I noticed the gates to the campgrounds were locked. I also noticed dozens of cars parked along the roadway from people who decided to go ahead and use the park anyway.

The lake was very busy with boat traffic as well.

Sadly the people that are setting and manning the barricades are only protecting their jobs.........or else get fired. It's probably the only skill they have.

Peggy Noonan gets the essence of the Washington gridlock from a phone conversation with James Baker III, who served under Reagan and Bush Uno. Republicans have their share of the blame but the President is the Leader, and dammit, he has to negotiate.

quote:

excerpt:
Ronald Reagan faced a fiercely Democratic house throughout both terms of his presidency. “Those days were bitter, but we got into a room and we thrashed it out. The 'Gang of Five,' the 'Gang of 17' – we worked it out, each side gave a little, and we got the government working. Reagan – as you know, he had the reputation of being a conservative ideologue. But he wasn't, he was pragmatic.” He worked with the other side and “won them over.” How? “Horse trading, compromise and negotiation made the government work.” Bill Clinton too “was willing to negotiate when he had a body controlled by the opposite party.”

To Lead is to Negotiate

This weekend I took one of my grandsons on a birthday present bike ride down to Williamsburg VA for an overnight camping trip to visit Jamestown and Yorktown. Now, the Jamestowne Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center are both owned and operated by The Commonwealth of Virginia, so they were open and unaffected. Jamestown and the Yorktown Battlefields are NPS, so they were closed. The bizarre and petty things were outside and between the two. Running across the peninsula from Jamestown to Yorktown is the Colonial Parkway, similar to the BRP (No commercial traffic, pretty drive, etc. It is also, like the BRP, a Federal Park. Upon leaving the Jamestown Settlement parking lot, when trying to turn left onto the CP, we were met with barricades that said "ROAD CLOSED". (Of course, to turn around you actually had to drive toward the now-closed Jamestown gates!) Taking VA 199 instead, 199 crosses the CP about three miles away. The ramp from 199 to the CP was open, so we took it. To our left, we could see the barricades at the other end (so to speak) but the CP was open to traffic heading to Yorktown. WTF? So, we motored along, and noticed that every turnout had orange barrels and signs to keep people out:

There aren't even trashcans at these spots to be emptied...

Moving closer, I noticed the signs:

If you DARE stop here, you will be subject to fines and towing!

It gets better (worse): proceeding along CP, we see the sign for the Yorktown Victory Center. Ramp Closed! This ramp is 100 yd. long, and deposits you right at the Center entrance. You could see the barricades at both ends. We were forced to make a three mile detour through the village of Yorktown, along the beach, and up the hill to the YVC. To the right, we could see the ramp barricades. Total BS. The workers at YVC were truly PO'd.

And the capper:
Guess who we saw patrolling the CP? Yep, a Park Ranger, no doubt to prevent rebellious visitors from overlooking the York river or Indian Creek--- and to call the tow truck, of course.

What is the point, again? Oh yeah, maximum pain. But, "they're Winning!" Thank you, Charlie Sheene, for that enduring image and slogan.

They want to call me an "anarchist", great I'll be one.

Really stifling the impulse to:
* Ride down to DC
* Ride thru the ragged parts of the city until encountering an inner-city entrepreneur with a pickup
* Offer to help him load up barricades for prompt deliver tho the scrap yard.

p.s.: You may be comforted to know that the WW ONE Memorial is still open.

quote:

Obama did say over the weekend that he's willing to negotiate changes to ObamaCare … but only after Republicans end the shutdown with a “clean” continuing resolution and then agree to hike the debt ceiling. That's convincing – give him everything he wants and then he'll talk. Of course, negotiating with Obama is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon knocks over all the pieces, craps on the board and then struts around like it won the game.

We have gone over the deep end targeting the wrong people, trying to make it as painful as possible. We have foreign tourists thinking they are under arrest.

http://www.newburyportnews.com/local/x1442580373/G estapo-tactics-meet-senior-citizens-at-Yellowstone

The real topper though, one that I will forever hold piece-of-shit BO accountable for is the treatment of our fallen heroes and their families. He is Commander In Chief and can easily take care of this between holes of golf. He, instead is more interested in causing as much pain as possible for all the wrong people. I am heartbroken for our country.
