After a miserable year of not having a bike I decided I wanted to start shopping and deciding what to get for next year. Really didn't want a sport bike, my little dirt race car takes care of my need for speed. Decided I wanted more of a cruiser for taking the new gf for long rides on Sundays and such. I stumbled on a hell of deal on a 01 Dyna Low rider on eBay that happened to be at the local HD dealer. Picking her up this week.

2001 Low Rider, 9300 miles. $5495

$5495! Must have "fallen" on the other side!

It's good to have your knees in the breeze on anything with two wheels.

BLASPHEMER!!!!

Looks like a nice Harley, and quite a deal. If you put some mid-mount controls on it, you might actually be able to ride the thing hard around a curve.

At least there's some Buell DNA in the Dynas.

Sweet deal, ( about what I consider a used HD to be worth ) and one of the best HD's ever, IMHO.

Dynas' are the hot rods of the HD big twin family.
IMHO

Darn nice! Heck of a deal too.

Who can not like a Dyna as nice as that for little money!

I'd have one at that price.

lol HE WILL SUFFER ALL THAT CHROME MUST BE POLISHED OR IT WILL FLAKE.

He now has a life of Harley Slavery to look forward too. HE has to go in to a HD parts dept then be set upon to Up grade to a new water cooled road sofa.

Nice bike we saw one just like it on the way to church.

Haha, other side looks just as good. I got used to caring for chrome with the Bonnie, not a big deal if you keep up with it. I was really shopping for an FXR, but when I saw this deal I couldn't pass it up.

I'm still on the fence about the forward controls. It took me a few minutes to get used to them on the test ride. With my junk knees they might stay as longer rides are definitely in the plans. We'll see. If I could find someone who wanted to trade set ups that might be an option.

I liked the forward controls on my Wide Glide. Very comfortable riding. It does make it a chore if you want to shift on the seat to hang off in the corners though. Not impossible, but far from ideal.

That is AWESOME Sifo!!!

The one thing I'm gonna do right away is get a longer shifter toe peg and larger rear brake pedal pad. I have to really point my feet in to reach them now thanks to my stubby 30" inseam.

Brought her home last night. For what it is it's actually kinda fun (ok a lot fun) to ride. Now my garage is happily fully occupied.

I picked up a 2004 FXLR with a stage III 1550 kit last November for a great deal while I was working at a dealership. It also has the adjustable tru-track system on it. Great bike and a lot of fun. I put some apes and a thunderheader on it and took the floorboard kit off and went back to forward controls.

I also picked up a road sofa. 2013 Victory Cross Country Tour for a smokin' deal.

I too have recently left the Buell fold. Sold the Uly a couple of weeks ago. It was time for a change and I'm hoping that the rumored EBR 1190AX turns out to be everything I hope it will.

Enjoy the Dyna!

Thanks I have been. According to my math I've put nearly 10% of its average annual mileage on it in the 24 hrs I've owned it....

Are you going to switch that bike to the mid controls? That's what I would do before any serious riding. That's my number 1 problem with all the new Harleys, forward controls. I can't ride them, too uncomfortable riding position for me. I like everything else about the bike though and a steal of a deal. You can easily go out and sell that for a nice profit.

Not sure about switching it back to mid controls. It has a pretty low seat height, kinda afraid it'd be hard on my junk knees. The forwards (on this bike anyway) aren't a far reach really and my legs aren't stretched strait at all. I didn't like the controls at first, but I've gotten used to them pretty quickly.

Any time I fiddled with a Dyna or about anything else with mid-controls, I hated it... I'm right at 6', and the forward controls were generally more comfortable on any bike.
One thing you might like is a set of heel-rests, some designs flip down and up, out of the way as needed.

FWIW, looks like you got one of the better looking 2tone paints available that year... nice score! You could probably get the right junk to approximate a FXDC- I always thought the Dyna Convertibles were the best option in that model line.

I honestly don't know enough about HD's to know what stuff is needed to make it a convertible.

The FX series was on every cover of every motorbike magazine in the world. 82? 83? in there.

It was the Harley That Worked for all the motorcycle magazine writers, who reluctantly allowed that being hauled around by a tractor engine was ok if the chassis was world class. Bike of the Decade.

I rather like the setup you have there, though I'm a mid peg guy. I'm sure someone knows the parts numbers to trick it out as desired. It's a fit question, and what makes you happy.

As aftermarket controls go, I rather like the looks of the Kuryakyn stuff, actually thought of running mini wings on the Cyclone. ( briefly, We'd been drinking ) Some of their stuff is flamey/pointy bits that you just know will take revenge if you are so rude as to fall down.

Great buy. Only HD I'd own, really. Ok, if I see the right Sportster.....

With bags and a shield ( the FXRT fairing, A Rifle Sport fairing, or even a Plexiglas one ) that's a nigh perfect solution for the "Cheap Interstate tourer" thread.

Here's the ebay page for the dealer where I got it. They got a few other Dynas for good prices.
