Seen on a bumper sticker years ago:

ALL PARTS FALLING FROM THIS VEHICLE ARE OF THE FINEST BRITISH WORKMANSHIP.

Had a little brit flag next to the words, IIRC it was on the back of a green (BRG) TR4.

I love looking at those cars and British bikes, too. But, having pushed my share of them over the years, I know way better than to own any of them!

Oh I don't know.

Here's one I've been taking care of for 5 years. It's never missed a beat. I took it out of the lockup and drove it a few miles just today. It fired up off the key first pull of the starter, full choke, brum brum. Not bad for a 78 year old. Mind you, the brakes were pulling a fair bit to the right. But hey, it's been in the lockup resting for over a year!

Even the 20 year old Brit's are reliable enough for snow. Not bad seeing as this one does get to see up towards 150mph on the speedometer sometimes, where as the 78 year old struggles to get to 50mph on a bright sunny summers day!

Sorry was that resting or rusting?

I'll bet spares are easier to come by than for the TVR too : )

The 78 year old is a Morris 8 and the TVR is a Griffith 500. Significantly a 1994 model as these had non power steering and are a bit hairy. Said to have 340bhp as opposed to power steered later models at 320bhp, but TVR were known to have exaggerated their claims for all TVR's somewhat anyway. Still, if it's somewhere up near 300 it's a lot for a plastic sportscar weighing around 950kg.

Parts aren't so bad for either. Sadly though, some of the TVR stuff comes from the breakers yards as more and more of them find their way there through insurance claims for what's really minor damage but expensive to repair due to its specialist requirements. Hence they get written off by the insurance company. Owners get paid out for their loss (usually the easiest option for them). Insurance co sells them to salvage, and there most get broken for parts. Some do survive and get rebuilt, but it's an ever decreasing amount remaining. I suppose it adds value to those still around though.
