I'm delighted that there is local outrage. I'm disgusted that their society allows such a marriage to occur in the first place.

They should chop the bastards bollocks off with a blunt rusty knife and ram them down his throat until he chokes very slowly.

First, it will be a ban on "Hate Speech" against another's sexuality, religion, politics, ethnicity, or "Race".

Ask Mark Steyn about being persecuted for his writings, in Canada.

Culture? yep. And it's HERE.

I can't believe that more people are not aghast at arranged marriages with "under age" girls being sold off to middle aged men. I thought we had a war about that.

We may need another. I am often reminded of the 15 year old tortured to death with electric shocks by her Father and Uncle because she did not want to marry the 54 year old Uncle. The Mother Pleaded for her husband not to be prosecuted, since the girl was disobedient. That's Culture.

They are NOT all equal.

A few thoughts.

First, age. We have no accepted means of determining maturity of mind. So we have arbitrary age limits on many things.

While arbitrary age limits are simply unfair, they exist because we have no way to judge individuals that all can agree on. Yet, we have emancipated minors and a range of other fixes. One can only hope we improve our understanding and laws as time goes by. Don't hold your breath.

I note, in passing that 14 is "old enough" in some states with parental approval. Romeo & Juliet were 14-15 yrs old. ( and idiots! )

Not getting married until you are in your 30's is a recent trend, and not a good one.

Still, 8? Old enough for The Prophet, perhaps, but not today.

Draw & quarter the "husband" and the father. I can think of a few more gruesome ideas, but it's best we not go there. "Barbaric" doesn't cover the results of this kind of rage.

I've written, and trashed 3 different rants for this thread.

One on maturity, age, sex. Not really apropos.

One on feminism, the institution of marriage, and cultural conflicts. Boring. ( although It may have received a B- in a comparative culture class, depending on the Prof )

One on rape, and how many women you meet each day have been raped, and how rape is an expression of power and rage, as well as sex. That one got angry and graphic, so I nuked it.

It's really simple. The medieval culture of a society that treats women as property, objects to be traded and sold, is certainly at fault.

How, WHY, you would hand a 8 year old girl to a middle aged man to rape IS a cultural issue.

Not all cultures are equal, no matter what the Press, your teachers or any other propaganda crap they shove down your throat. You can, hell, WILL, be punished for speaking the truth on this subject.

I don't claim my culture is perfect, I rant against it's ills, often. Compared to the majority of the planet, however, MY culture is rich and enlightened enough to be so much better that people around the planet flee their own to come here.

Because where they live is hell. Brutal police, brutal dictators, poverty on an incredible scale with the wealth of the nation focused on a very few.

In the culture in Yemen, the Religion that IS the culture, overlaid on a pre-Roman dark ages society, women are not human beings, they are property. Wealth. Status.

That culture is spreading, and the girls born into that culture are being murdered throughout America and the world.

The REAL blame here goes to the "husband". In our eyes he cannot have received consent, since an 8 year old cannot give it. It is rape. In their culture, she was given as property. It is not rape, it is the way it has always been. Girls are slaves.

He still raped her to death.

you don't cause such injuries without some protest. No means no. "Please stop" removes consent. This "husband" is a cruel monster who places his ego and pleasure above the life of others.

I'm trying vary hard not to indulge in dark fantasy about his imaginary punishment. It is corrosive to the soul. I would not allow him to continue to live upon this world, but the desire to make him suffer, while understandable, does you no good, and is bad karma.

Be happy to hold him down for the beheading, though In reality, I doubt he'll get jail time.

Even when it's illegal the culture/tradition/religion still perpetuates it.
Check out that entire photo gallery and article... from 2 years ago. Particularly, the picture of the police arresting the man next to his bleeding 15yr old wife whom he repeatedly stabbed for disobeying. Nothing happened to the husband, the officer was later killed by the taliban. And of course the story of the girl at the end of the article, this is nothing new.
The article started with an investigation into self immolation by young afgan girls. They were setting themselves on fire rather than marry or remain with their husbands.

It really does feel like a blight is creeping in when you read these things.
I think the real issue is the middle east's absolute need to unify the government with the religion du jour.

I really wish we could just put a dome over that whole area and let them fight each other with clubs.

These tools walk around with their AK47s and RPGs like big shots. They are blind to the fact that they didn't invent or manufacture anything of consequence since AD850. If we could just cut them off, they wouldn't have anything other than bows and swords.

My favorite metric of a society's worth is cars.
In order to make a passenger car, a wide range of industries must be in place.
If you look at any industrialized country, they will make cars. BRAZIL made cars even! What has Saudi Arabia made? What has Syria?

I am speechless after viewing these photographs of "equally valid" cultures. These people are simply barbarians.
