I think he is hinting that there will be more to the range than the RX,SX, and AX. Considering he recently helped Hero design a new 250 motor, I would bet that there is a "starter" sport bike coming. I could also see a dirt bike given that the griffen project got killed. It also wouldn't surprise me to see some middle weights in there, say in the 600-800 class, with versions of the RX, SX, and AX.

Remember, Erik has a lot of experience with variations of a primary platform. Think XB Right into the 1125.

My guess, and this is all a guess based on what I have read about , is that we will see the RX displayed next month at a minimum, with the AX and SX released before or about spring to mid year 2014.

I'm hoping my guesses are not far off.

Now all he needs is some dealers. I have done some checking around the Portland Or area and I have found no one that is interested in being a dealer.

"A very sleek look since it is American"

Was that a quote taken out of context or something? or was he taking the piss out of the interviewer?

I'm afraid I lost all interest in reading further after that point.

I find it difficult to believe that he actually thinks that, I mean sleek hasn't really been the watchword of American motorcycle or automotive design over the years has it?

I had the same initial reaction. Then I thought a bit more about the meaning of "sleek", smooth & glossy, elegant & streamlined.

With that in mind compare the EBR 1190RS to the BMW S1000RR and Ducati Panigale.

The BMW is the antithesis of "sleek".

"Racy" not same as "sleek".

So a Ducati 999 is what?

RC8.

Anything from Bimota.

MV Agusta F4.

It's just that I find it a bit crass to imply that anything non-American can't be sleek.

Perhaps I'm being over sensitive, but so much of any enterprises success depends on customers impressions, that it's not clever to alienate any part of a potential client base.

I do not find anything from KTM to be sleek. I think their Chief designer was inspired by a bowl of used razor blades.
However, I also think that it's psychologically impossible for Italians to not build sexy vehicles.
If you were to turn on the TV and see her

Would you design something that looks like this?

I think you're getting your knickers in a knot over a quote that may have been edited or taken out of context.
I strongly suspect that what he intended to say was distorted in the article.

The S1000RR is aesthetically horrid in my view, anti-sleek. The question specifically mentioned that bike and the Panigale.

Sorry Blake, that doesn't fly. The etc after the bikes mentioned makes the question general rather than specific.

Quote EB "Well of course it has a lot of unique traits, including a very sleek look since it is American."

That's pretty unequivocal, & pretty indefensible too, is all I'm getting at.
It's no skin off my nose as I'm not likely to be buying an 1190 superbike, it's just not my cup of tea.
But I'd hate to see EBR losing custom over a few ill chosen words.

I think that the bikes he was referring to were Japanese and the last couple of generations of liter bikes in particular were not sleek. Most of them have an excessive number of lines and creases, with a plethora of scoops and ducts. We are still dealing with subsonic aerodynamics here. Fact is I personally feel the 1190rs should have the tail of the XBRR it would help at Daytona and Road America.

I think you read it wrong.

Seems to me he is saying "Well of course it has unique traits, including a very sleek look since it is, after all (American) from the land recognised for Harleys (and their clones).

I don't think he was saying other bikes weren't sleek.

He said it has "a lot of unique traits, including a sleek look since it's American"

((a lot of unique traits including a sleek look) since it's american))

Could have been "since it's American, it has a lot of unique traits including a sleek look"

Whatever. I don't actually care. Going to sell my bike and buy a boat.

Mr. Grumpy, he did not imply that other makes weren't sleek, only that he wanted his bike to be sleek. Of course this whole discussion is mute because I'm sure we all have a different definition of "sleek".

Hmmm must be the way I read English then, to me he's saying that sleek is uniquely American, & by implication that anything not American can't be sleek.

So I'll just quote the immortal George Bernard Shaw, & leave it at that.

"The United States and Great Britain are two nations separated by a common language;"

I like the KTM Styling, I like the rigid lines of the design although, not as sleek as the 1190RS.

Most American bikes are less than "Sleek" so that's what I think he was getting at.
The main thing I take from that article is Erik Buell is a motorcycle icon and is on his way to building a new high quality motorcycle company.

That sounds like:

Heaven and Hell

Heaven Is Where:

The French are the chefs
The Italians are the lovers
The British are the police
The Germans are the mechanics
And the Swiss make everything run on time

Hell is Where:

And the Germans are the police
