Of random things that don't really fit elsewhere.
At the local Wallyworld - Ammo is arriving again.....
And back to school is ramping up. There is a display at our local one with a series of books for 'back to school'.
Fahrenheit 451
Lord of the Flies
Brave New World
Grapes of Wrath
Catcher in the Rye
Orson Wells - 1984

I think they missed Walden and Atlas Shrugged, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Clock work Orange, and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

If you haven't read these classics - I HIGHLY recommend you do.
If it has been a while since you have read them; unplug for a bit - and read them again.... and then take a serious look around at the Shiate that we have found yourselves in

I personally find 1984 to be double plus good. An absolute MUST read. As is Grapes of Wrath.

No need to read 1984. Just observe 2013 US history.

We are living Atlas Shrugged at this very second. Can't wait for the fair "Anti Dog Eat Dog" Bill.

I have read...

Lord of the Flies
Grapes of Wrath
Catcher in the Rye
Orson Wells - 1984

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

I would like to throw in Animal Farm for those thinking that Socialism is a good thing.

I would add Ishmael to any basic book list.

It's not on many people's radar screens, though:

The irony is thick in this thread. You guys realize that these authors are comprised of leftists, socialists, and communists, right??

Also -

quote:

Orson Wells - 1984

What does Orson Well(e)s have to do with 1984?? John Hurt was in the movie, not Orson Welles.

The complete hitchhikers guide to the galaxy is quite possibly my favorite book ever.
I would also add Bradburys Martian Chronicles, Asimovs I Robot, and anything by the master of satire...William Shakespeare

Damnit - you are right,
I was thinking that Citizen Cane belonged there; and spoonered the two. damnit - no biscuit.
And yes, Animal Farm should have definitely been there.

And for light reading
The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil
