So, how was it? The trouble with living in California is that everywhere else is so dang far away.

Day 1 was WET. One of my riding buddies went down HARD on a wet turn and ended up hitting a little bridge. He was lucky he got thrown back onto the roadway and not over the bridge into the rocky little stream below.

Unfortunately, he broke his arm and shattered his wrist, so his ride ended in an ambulance to the hospital. It could've been a LOT worse. He wore all the proper gear and even the ER doctor (who professed to be a rider himself) said it was nice to see someone appropriately attired, as most of his patients come in in a LOT worse condition from riding helmetless, jacketless, gloveless and bootless.

The bike was destroyed (photos can be seen at http://www.nassauwings.org/photos/2013/0713-0714_R amapo_500/ )

My own ride ended prematurely on Sunday, but fortunately not in as dramatic a fashion. Seems a screw that holds the sidestand cutout switch backed out, and the computer didn't think I had retracted my sidestand. I didn't know this at the time, by the way... I learned that when I picked it up from the dealer today.

Anyway, I ended up calling a buddy to pick me up with my car and another friend's trailer. Roadside Assistance couldn't help because I broke down in NY, and the closest servicing dealerships were in Connecticut or New Jersey (and none of their contractors were licensed to go out of state). Such is life.

The food at the halfway site was very good, but the breakfast portions were too damned small (my only real complaint). The rain trickled off during the night and Sunday, though it started out in fog, ended up hot and dry.

By the way, my breakdown point was at an air-conditioned convenience store across the street from an ice cream parlor. All things considered, life was good.

OH! And as to why I like big scooters so much... here's a photo of my new Scooter fully loaded for an overnight camping trip. I've got my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, change of footwear, pajamas, and change of clothing all packed up and ready to go:
