Budget may be a problem but you can find mesh riding pants for close to $100. Sounds like a lot but they last for years. Regular jeans are hotter and don't provide any road-rash protection. Mesh is not so good if you have a lot of engine heat directed at your legs. |

I like the Slider 4.0 kevlar jeans. I wear them every day when I ride, whether it is 95 degrees or 45 degrees. I have had them for over a year and they are still in great shape. They have kevlar reinforced seat, waist to mid-thigh, and knees, mid-thigh to mid shin. The only thing I don't like about them is the velcro pockets on the inside of the knees for inserting knee pads. Otherwise they are great. If you order them, do like the reviews say and order one size smaller in the waist. Competition Accessories sells them for $79. They have blue jeans, black jeans, cargo pants, and khaki's. If you order them, do like the reviews say and order one size smaller in the waist. http://search.compacc.com/search?view=grid&w=kevla r+jeans&x=86&y=21 |

I've been happy with Slider jeans too. Just a bit more protection, but you don't have to have the Joe Crotch Rocket look when you get somewhere. |

Check at Cycle Gear the Bilt mesh pant: http://www.cyclegear.com/c/brand/BILT/Sport-Mesh-M otorcycle-Pants/p/28341_59409_125625 . I have one and even not being top grade or great looking it works. Keep you not so hot and offer some degree of protection. Perhaps you should also think about Heat-Out, it's cheap enough to worth trying: http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/Street/Motorcyc le-Base-Layers/Bottoms/brand/HEAT-OUT/Base-Layer-L ong-Johns/p/41711_59409_199 |

Another vote here for cheap mesh pants. Throw them over whatever else you are wearing normally, pop them off when you get there. $100 or so, but you don't have to keep washing them like pants and they will only be on when you are riding, so they will last a lot longer. Protection will likely be better than kevlar jeans (as the pads don't have to be invisible). |

I have a pair of Brosh kevlar lined jeans: http://www.brosh.com/new/default.asp?Page=Main&L=1
I like them because they are comfortable, and look more or less like normal jeans even with the knee pads in them. The first pair I ordered were 2" short, but the company replaced them at not cost to me. |

Duluth Firehose logger black jeans worked great for me - the firemen and emts were impressed. The only abrasion on the pants is where cloth was between the multi-tool and pavement, no rips or tears otherwise sliding across over 25 feet with 40mph reflected energy bouncing me back - lol. they even had a real hard time cutting them off, though after a few years I had managed to slightly fray the cuff edges riding. My Caterpillar boots, buffalo leather jacket, helmet and gloves all did their job well, with my injuries all being force impact type. No abrasions. EZ |

Plus one on what Ez said, I have 3 pairs and they are comfortable to boot. You can get flannel lined for the cool days also. |

Unfortunately, my wife tested a pair of Sliders jeans this Sunday at about 30 mph. Happily, other than a bruise on her hip, she was completely unscathed. The Moto Guzzi didn't fair as well. The whole thing came from a huge pot hole in a construction zone that started a tank slapper causing the front wheel to loose traction on the crappy surface. |

Owie! Glad to hear she's OK- on I-81 and I-40 between here and the Tri-Cities area, there are WAAAY too many potholes and crappy stretches of tarmac... be careful out there! (BTW, be sure to do your husbandly duties and apply good lotions to that bruise... Arnica lotion if you can find it. You'll be glad you did.) |
