My buddy Jim Corso's dog Kirby is in trouble, and needs surgery. I got this last night:

quote:

When it rain’s it pours.

Kirby had a hernia take place last night. We were in the vet from 6:30 – 12:30. His bladder pushed through into his anal gland. They were able to empty his bladder and get it back in, to where it was suppose to be but he needs immediate surgery. Last night Vet said 3-4000. His normal Vet said closer to 1500. Won’t know more until tomorrow. Thankfully he is home and comfortable as I write.

Needless to say, we’ve been in tears since last night. Such a healthy dog otherwise. Been trying to get donation’s through Facebook to PayPal. The vet won’t take donation’s. They can’t be responsible for the monies. We were going to try that first. And its cash up front before they will help him. They are waving his visit fee tomorrow though which is cool.

We call them pets, in reality they are family...

Jim and Shel, in less than 24 hours, have raised over half the money they need for Kirby. I'm trying to help them raise some more.

Their PayPay addy is jim@jimcorso.com - please help if you can. Jim and Shel have helped a bunch of people on BWB over the years. Kirby means the world to them.

Ferris

Thanks a million Alex - you rock, amigo.

Here's a pic of Kirby taken last night that Corso just forwarded to me:

And some awesome, awesome news from just a couple of minutes ago:

quote:

GOOD NEWS!

Right now he is out immediate danger. His visit to the ER saved his life. The doc was furious to hear that they wanted to put him down. She showed Shel how to push his bladder back through. He has about a 2 inch tear. Said it doesn't ever happen but for what ever reason it did. The surgery cost is now down to $1300 which is also good news. Will take a couple of hours and he'll have to stay the night. Then wear a funnel for several day's.

Doc said if we keep a good eye on him, and make sure he doesn't do any jumping our rough housing with the little meathead. Stays on the diet we have him on (rice, pumpkin and ground meat) It should be no problem limping him along, until we can get him in for the surgery.

Most excellent.

KIRBY UPDATE:

He is out immediate danger. His visit the ER Sunday night saved his life. His doc was furious to hear that they wanted to put him down. He has about a 2 inch tear that his bladder is pushing through. The doc showed Shel how to push it back through and where to massage, to help keep it in place. Said it doesn't ever happen but for what ever reason it did. The surgery cost is now down to $1300 which is also good news. Will take a couple of hours and he'll have to stay the night. Then wear a funnel for several day's, so he can heal up.

Doc said if we keep a good eye on him, and make sure he doesn't do any jumping our rough housing with the little meathead (Bandit our 1 year old rescue Boston Terrier). Stays on the diet we have him on (rice, pumpkin and ground meat). It should be no problem limping him along, until we can get him in for the surgery.

He's not out of the woods yet but, we can see the clearing and have a very good chance of getting there. And we're only $350 away for the $1,300 we need for his surgery.

I can not thank everyone enough for the kindness and giving to help Kirb. You all have reminded me that there is still lots of good in this world. Kirby is suppose to grow old with us, as it should be. : )

Just sent a little something. I've always had a soft spot for the little Boston terriers. Hopefully, he'll be good as new soon. Good luck!

Thanks Twig! Every little bit helps and we're getting closer. It's hard not to have a soft spot for the bugged eyed little guy's.

I snapped this shot of Kirby just a little bit ago. he's not feeling much pain right now. All doped up on his pain meds.

I have a Buell S2 frame that I am thinking of putting up for sale. Which might get us to where we need to be for Kirby's surgery. It has a clear title and I believe its a 1996. It has a little bit of history. It's called Blurr and was ridden by some guy by the name of Ferris Bueller, that hangs out here from time to time.

I'm not sure what to ask for it? And if it sold, the buyer would have to pay actual shipping cost's. If there is interest in it, I can post some pix of it.

Glad to help, Jim.

And thanks for the compliments for my girls. Kelsey is a typical pug - lovable, snorts, snores, sneezes and snuggles. She's my 8 year old lovebug. Morgan is a rescue from a high-kill shelter down south, got her at 8 weeks old. Bad eye from the get-go, along with a we-todd-ed ear and a nostril that doesn't lubricate...I suspect puppy mill injury. Had the vet remove it as soon as she demonstrated a propensity for sticking stuff in it as she played. Pic is about 2 days post surgery - you can see it didn't get her down for long! She's what...3 or 4 now, still acts like a 2 year old. Love it : )

Kirby is a cutie. Love the Bostons. Cute little guys...almost as cute as a pug ; ) Here's to many nights of snuggles and snores!

Here's Calvin, I adopted him from the shelter as a yearling. He stuck with me for 18 years. I know he's still with me and the girls to this day - he went to rest last October.

They know.

And they stay with us as long as they can, trusting we'll do what we can do for them.

He'll always be my big buddy.

18 years : )

Take the best care you can of Kirby. He trusts you - and so do we. : )

Tough spot to be in. Put in a few bucks, we hope they can get it taken care of quickly.

Eddie about killed himself as a pup when he bit into my daughter's albuterol inhaler and got dosed with most of the container. Cost about $1400 if I recall correctly. Hard times when we're hurting for our fur kids.

I received a very nice email this morning from a person that wishes to remain anonymous (who knows The Kirb). With what Shel and I have, the generous donation’s from everyone and what anonymous is sending, we have hit the mark for Kirby’s surgery! Not sure if we’ll be able to get him in this week but, Monday is looking very promising, dependent on his Vet’s schedule. We’ll be calling the Sandy Animal Clinic first thing this morning to get the ball rolling.

I need to give the Sandy Animal Clinic and good plug. They took care of our 16 year old Boston Terrier “Dusty” when she got sick and we had to let her go, a couple of years ago. They were very kind, caring and compassionate then. And that also hold’s true now with The Kirb. He really won the vet over with his goofy, happy-go-lucky personality. And the way he groan’s and mumbles when you pet and scratch him.

Shel and I want to thank you all for your kindness and well wishes.....We couldn’t of gotten to this point, if it wasn’t for you. Kirb, will be back to his normal self very soon and live many more years to come with his peeps, that love him greatly.

Jim, Shel, Bandit and The Kirb

Rat...18 years with Calvin. Now that is very cool.

Sorry to hear of his passing. I'm sure he is greatly missed.

Kirby has been with us for 8 years. We got him when he was six weeks old on June 7th 2005.

This shot is of Bandit. He's our latest rescue Boston. He just turned a year old on the 5th of June. Got him when he was four weeks old. He's the biggest trouble maker too.

My girls top the BBQ addiction.

They both go apeshit for dry lettuce. Not just "we'll eat it" but jumping up and down gobbling and begging for it.

Won't go near it if it has salad dressing on it.

Snicks is pretty special...

...and is a sucker for BBQ'd hamburger with NOTHING on it (or in it, such as seasonings), so she gets her own special little burger patty. : )
