To those who went and didn't come back....to those who went and came back changed.....to those who are "there"...to those who ......thank you for what you did and are continuing to do...i do this every day,no matter what, where or when.Again thank you....
To all our brave and selfless men and women in the US Armed Forces, Reserves, and Veterans...
Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do. Your sacrifices have made everything in my life possible. Because of you, I have had a safe place to raise children and enjoy life to it's fullest.
From the families Anthony, Dowling, Petersen, Hassell, Halley, and O'Dowd.
We are honored by your courage, and are truly grateful.
First tried reading it out loud to Sunny - I never made it past where she was at his headstone:
She spoke in broken sentences between sobs, gesturing with her hands, sometimes pausing as if she was trying to explain, with so much left needed to say.
Made it to the old unit. They had the flag at half mast, and read the names of all the ones we have lost. Front line linguists and spooks from our Battalion have taken a long hit.
May the life we live be worth the hell you endured in those black places. May we never see the sun of freedom set on our continent.
Slaughter, thanks for this thread, and thanks for posting up Madison Rising - that is perhaps my all-time favorite rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
On Memorial Day, for the second year in a row I paid my respects to Mr. William Letcher, an outspoken Patriot who was murdered in his home in 1780 by a British sympathizer, not far from here.
Rest in peace, Mr. Letcher. May we continue to be worthy of your sacrifice.

Liberty must at all hazards be supported. We have a right to it, derived from our Maker. But if we had not, our fathers have earned and bought it for us, at the expense of their ease, their estates, their pleasure, and their blood.
