I'm looking at a 1996 Ultra with fuel injection. The bike has 40,000 miles and is in excellent condition. The previous owner passed away and his widow is selling the bike. It appears the only modification is a set of slip-ons. She said they used it mainly for trips and doesn't know anything else about the bike other than everything works. (cb, stereo, cruise) I'm considering buying it but I'm a little leary of the FI. Otherwise the bike is gorgeous. He obviously took good care of it.

Evo FI was, I believe, Magnetti-Marelli. It's fairly primitive, but in my experience if you leave it alone it will serve well enough. If you're the type who "has to upgrade everything"...it will start to get finicky the more you modify.

An Evo carb swap is easy enough if you decide you don't like the Marelli system. The 1340 itself is a tank - I tried to kill one for years with no success. It just kept running...

I have had excellent luck with evo's, if I get this bike I wouldn't do anything else to it. I'm keeping my Uly, wife is not as comfortable on it as she was on my last 2 FLH's. It would mainly be used for 2-up touring.

I actually sold my 96 FLHP when I got my Uly.

My ex was more comfortable on the Uly....just food for thought : )

My buddies 97 Ultra has 117,000 miles on it. I rebuilt the engine at 73,000 due to a soft tappet roller going south. I put in an EV13 cam and aftermarket tappets. I had a "stage one" downloaded into the ecm and put a K&N air cleaner and he had different mufflers already. After I broke the rings in it pulled 105 mph. At 117,000 miles it still pulled over 100. It regularly got 50 mpg and we've ridden all over the states and it's been solid. There was nothing wrong with an evo, buy it and ride.

I had a 1990 FXR with ported heads, S&S cam, Crane single fire ignition, Edelbrock carb and Python 2 pipes. Surprised many jap bikes in stoplight drag races. 35,000 mostly trouble-free miles. Sold it in 2000 to buy a 1999 Cyclone.
