First stop was to Pennsylvania last Thursday to pick up the new-to-me 1125R from Chris. Great bike. Took it Friday to Summit Point for the Motorcycle Xcitement race cert school and had a blast on it. Got my certificate too so now I can get my race license.
On to the main purpose of this road trip. I've been to three schools so far. UNH, Minnesota State at Mankato, and University of Toledo, OH. The last one being a fluke because I'm currently stuck there.
On my way to MN, wheel bearings on the trailer took a dive and I ended up needing a replacement axle after destroying the hub and everything associated on that wheel. So trailer stayed in Ohio and I went to Minnesota without the bikes . Also turned out to be cold as hell, raining and got six inches of snow while I was there, so not sure there would have been a lot of riding involved while I was there.
Headed to North Carolina tonight to see UNC Asheville tomorrow morning and UNC Charlotte on Saturday. With any luck, I'll get a couple hours of riding in tomorrow afternoon.
Well, almost time to hitch up and hit the road again. More to come later.
Thanks for the update! So many people post up asking for recommendations and we never have a clue if they got anything from them or not. Hope you find the school & location that works for you.
Well, I'm back in Afghanistan at the moment. I made it to 6 different schools.
1. University of New Hampshire 2. Minnesota State University - Mankato 3. University of Toledo 4. UNC Asheville 5. Western Carolina University (Ride by Only) 6. UNC Charlotte 7. Eastern Tennessee State University (Drive by Only)
And the winner is... University of North Carolina - Charlotte
I will be enrolling in their Electrical Engineering Technologies program starting January 2014.
Of all the schools I visited or talked to, they were the most open to transfer students, the area is great for me, the weather is nice, some of the best motorcycling in the US is about two hours away, housing is affordable, and in general, NC is a nice place. But I think most of the people here already knew that last part.
I'm now looking at all the online housing sites looking for a place. I've found a couple within 15 miles of the university that would be great for me. All in the Concord or Harrisburg area.
With any luck, I'll get to finally get to meet a lot of people on this site next year as the Dragon and Little Switzerland rides come up if I haven't met you before then.
