Froggy is gonna love this... hehe

I've been using a Quest II for years and been very happy with it. The II holds the whole USA at once, and I have lifetime maps on it so (at least now) I should be able to keep it from going out of date.

I just got from another Badwebber, a Quest I. Got it as a spare/parts for the II, but it seems to be fully functional...so I want to unlock it and start using it as a backup. The I was a regional-only unit, though...and this one is Pacific. I'm on the east coast.

Does anyone have a CD-ROM for an original Buell Quest unit laying around, that they aren't using?

Or...does anyone know how to unlock/change regions on one of these?

Garmin's website is...well...less than helpful.

You will have to find the unlock codes last purchased. With enough fussing, garmin will help, but it will take time as they have to email old owner to see if it was stolen.

If you get an unlock code and know the version' we might be able to scare up the CD. I have several locked away.

One of my software programs that I use with the Q2 brought up a screen with a 25-digit alphanumeric code, and a notation "region unlock code from" a .gma file...but it wouldn't let me do a damned thing with it because the program has v.7 maps and 2010 maps, but no pre-v.7 maps...and I don't know where or how to get those.

...and garmin.com shows this unit as "already registered" and won't let me register it on my products page...

Every time I've done it it's been a different kind of hell, but it's always been horrible. As much as I love my Quests, I'll be cheering when the revolution (which is already here in Waze) lines them up against the wall. Which is a real shame for a once great company that destroyed themselves by drinking the cool-aide of Digital Rights Management.

What maps were unlocked on the quest when you got it?

Ultimately, I think you will have to call Garmin and get the original unlock code, then scour the internet for the original CD's for that version. You can then use that to program the quest (which will still be a PITA in many ways to set up, but once sorted, will work).
