Not surprising. When the police and fire rescue folks tried to rescue the idiots who ignored the evacuation order, the good citizens of New Orleans fired upon them. An armored rescue vehicle sounds like a good thing. FYI The mayor of the "chocolate city" (his words) decided that the best course of action would be to confiscate the guns of the people who were not shooting at the police. | ||

First, the original photos of those seem to date back to 2009. Second, the MRAP in the photos does not seem to match the exact type of the 2700+ MRAP refurbishment contract Third, there is some stuff about the DHS getting about 60 surplus MRAPs following a source selection contract, and those 60 appear to match the ones seen in the photos. Fourth, the 2700+ refurb contract was about a year ago and was supposedly for the Army. Of course, that’s just the result of an hour of insomniac web browsing. There may be more, but don’t believe anything that doesn’t have a better source then another alarmist "news" site. From what I could tell, this report was a nearly word for word cut-paste from a wave of identical "news" reports from mid-2012. None of which changes the fact that DHS appears to be operating at least 2 mine resistant armored personnel assault vehicles within the united states… Still, I think people are putting 2 and 2 together and getting impending urban warfare as the sum. I personally don’t see why the DHS/ICE ought to be operating 60 or even 2 of these things, and writing "rescue" on the side is big brother doublespeak straight from Orwell’s 1984. Given the utter absence of land mines and IEDs in the 48 contiguous states and given the current "budget crisis", I figure these things ought to be sold on ebay or at the very least sold for scrap. We don’t need them and they’re expensive to run/maintain. If anyone seriously tells you that we DO need them, look closely for the jackboots and subdued swastika because they’re not in the game for our interests. Serving officer | ||

Definitely some double speak out there. - When 1st encountered it was unable to find confirmation OR disproval (is there such a word?) so sent an inquiry to snopes who is usually good at carrying water for the power elite. They posted this - Honestly, they did. Snopes does some valid fact checking, but also has a very clear bias that shows through more and more every year as they get further and further from their alt.urbanlegends roots (for those of us that were there since the beginning). Nothing wrong with biases (we all have them) so long as they are identified and understood and there is a balance of voices. I think it was better in the old days, when each town had a liberal and conservative paper, each reporting according to their ideas and views. Both perspectives are valid and useful. The problems we have with todays media is that we have the left and the lefter, but with a yeast of corporate, wealthy, and political elite corruption. That would be fine if they would just admit that they lean left / democratic and stop criticizing the center or center right media outlets (that they vastly outnumber) as "faux news". | ||

Hoot, that seems to be the trend. I've long said a few things that really torque people off. ( depending on crowd.) 1. When it pays better to go on the dole than working, why work? When more than half the people do so, it all collapses. ( we are almost there, if not there today ) Meanwhile I will work as long as I can. Proving I'm a fool. 2. IF you believe that Global Warming is caused by SUV's, then you cannot allow 2 billion Chinese to have SUV's. The only way to stop that from happening is to nuke China. A lot of nukes. Maybe enough to cause "Nuclear Winter". Which nicely solves the warming problem, and kills even more people than nuking 3 Billion Chinese, and giving another billion cancer. ( "Nuclear Winter" is unproven, and may be total propaganda. Nuking China with hundreds of megatons would be the experiment I dont' want to do, thank you. China IS on it's way to 2 billion SUV's and now produces enough CO2 that the US could commit mass suicide, never drive another car, fly another plane, or make another kilowatt, and it would have no effect on CO2 from fossil fuels.... ) Oh, and HOW LONG did it take the AG to lie to us about NOT murdering us at whim? | ||
