just for damn fun

'Shall not be infringed'
damnit

City, the "which 3, or 1 or whatever guns" argument is as old as cave men discussing which pointy rocks they'd chose.

And as relevant and fun an argument as mankind has ever had.

My 3 off the cuff choices would be: ( subject to change, whim and convincing )

Scoped rifle. Ruger Scout, .308 with scout mounted scope & ghost ring backup.

Shotgun. Browning/Winchester Semi with extended magazine, light/laser and scope mount with ghost ring irons. ( stored with light/laser, scope in bag with QD rings. )

Packing pistol. Para Ord LDA Commander size w/alloy frame. .45

My 1 choice is a the Ruger 10/22. W/ variable scope.

That IS the Brady center for exploiting a crippled guy's plan.

Give it a scary name.

Ban it.

Next item.

Give it a scary name...... repeat until disarmed. Incremental disarmament is the way. Pick away at your rights, until they have all the power and you are a subject, not a citizen.

They even tell you that.

The New York SAFE act was deliberately written to ban over 75% of all private, legal, fire arms in New York State.

Civil disobedience seems to be the New York gun owners thing. There are going to be millions of felons that just didn't obey. No one I have heard plans to register any or all of their legal guns.

It may get very messy. 1861 was, too.

quote:

The Semi below is nigh perfect. How do you like the stock? The 2 fiber optic "beads"? Would you prefer a ghost ring rear sight?

The stock is good. It is comfortable and has a generous recoil pad. I tried numerous stocks on the 870 and the Choate is the one I preferred.

The rifle sights work better for me on a shotgun than ghost rings. It's a good compromise between speed/precision. I find it easier to track moving objects as well.

The semi-auto is a great improvement IMO. If I let the pump collect dust for a few months I was sure to short stroke it once or twice the next time I used it. Considering it was my primary home D gun, that's unacceptable. The 1100 has been flawlessly spitting out empties for me. It is also softer shooting and easier to shoot accurately. It's a win win as far as I'm concerned. It's also the first successful gas operated semi-auto. There's something cool about that. Mine is a 1970's vintage gun...and they don't make them as nice anymore.

see my post Saturday, February 23, 2013 - 07:44 am:

I apparently can't shoot as fast as Mr. Kelley. I've never out run an 1100.

The 1100 is one of the all time classics, along with the Browning Auto5 and Benelli short recoil semis.

Your comment on short stroking the 870 is the reason that semi's are, today, equally reliable ( if not better ) than pump guns even if that makes the old timers grimace.

Alas, they don't make the Winchester Super X3 in the "practical" config they offered the Super X2 in. http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/his toric-detail.asp?family=009C&offset=12&mid=511016

If you find one of the above in a store, I seriously recommend it. Not ideal for ducks, because of the mag tube, but the equal to anything on the market for competition and defense.

I'm running down to the gun store in town, I think I'm going to look for a .45 Colt or .357 magnum lever action "cowboy" gun.

The lever action repeaters are exempt, this week anyway, from the NY Governor's gun grab. ( Governor, and Next President Of the United States ) Need something for plinking, since I gave away all my guns for Christmas.

Current choice list is Marlin, Winchester, Puma. I've considered Cowboy Action Shooting as a sport, but have to find & legalize a nice Cowboy era sixgun. Thinking a S&W top break clone.

Veterans are at the top of the list of "domestic terrorists" per the DHS, along with those who love the Constitution too much.
Biased, but essentially accurate, has link to DHS report. http://www.infowars.com/homeland-security-report-l ists-liberty-lovers-as-terrorists/

I've spent decades getting flack because of my job, because of a couple of real bad shooting, years ago. ( know, & once dated a girl who held her supervisor in her arms as he died in a CA shooting. She wasn't all that tightly wrapped before, it didn't help. ) In fact it's against the law for me to make jokes about the subject. I do anyway, but not often, and not in public. Sound unfair? Sure. But your right to joke about airport security is likewise restricted. Tyrants famously have no sense of humor.

Anyway, while the Postal Service has a bad rep, Stockbrokers are far more likely to go nuts and shoot up the workplace. Ex-police look like a poor bet for stable as well.

City, if you want to blend it's not "F these F'n F'rs..." it's "down with the oppressors of the Proletariat!". In todays National discussion with the products of years of lies, indoctrination, and heavy, ongoing, propaganda, you have to speak the proper language. They don't understand any other.

BTW, I agree with the sentiment. You DO mean Figuratively, right? Nancy P and Diane F. scare me too much to perform, if you know what I mean?}

Not a bad idea Patrick and if you want to think about a full size rifle instead of a carbine; with a tubular magazine it increases the cartridge capacity considerably. These rifles have been used as LEO's trunk guns for many, many years when they needed extra firepower and have a long, long history of getting the job done.

This guy treads entirely too much in his footsteps and lives in his shadow.

Shall not be Infringed.

They are ginning up the idea that you have to have a 1 Million (for now) liability insurance policy if you own a gun *even the shotgun that Biden urges you to get.

(we know that they treat insurance as a vehicle of tax and registration - it is the essence of all the PPACA (ObamaCare) is.)

This is as old school as my revolvers get. Old school looks, modern performance. 45ACP on moon clips...the original speedloader.

The "lawyer lock" betrays its origin and age. Thankfully that'll be taken care of soon.

It's a shame that S&W kept internal locks on their classic line. It really puts a sore spot on otherwise great firearms.

I've got a cousin on Facebook right now going on a rant about how "guns are made specifically to kill people and you can't tell me otherwise."

Of course when presented with facts, figures, logic, and legal definitions the rant just continues.

When I get confronted with this kind of discussion I always say "if you look at it that way, so is a tire iron or a baseball bat, but its only a tool and can be used in any number of ways"

Any gun can also be used for target shooting, collecting, hunting (killing also) but within the game laws, and just fun shooting if done without malice toward anyone or any thing. Its all in the hands of the user as any tool is. that should be case closed if they have any kind of open mind. Those people usually do not.

He outed himself, mentioning that he last fired a gun at 12y/o and never owned one. Figures

Not a surprise that people that don't understand gun ownership tend to not own guns.

It's a responsibility that I don't think everyone is up to. He also mentioned that he had no plans to own one. Thank goodness.

I mentioned I felt his thought process was more dangerous than the thousands of guns I was surrounded by daily. He truly didn't understand why.

There are too many people that share his sentiments.

>>> I've got a cousin on Facebook right now going on a rant about how "guns are made specifically to kill people and you can't tell me otherwise."

The 2nd amendment was written specifically to protect the people's right to have the ability and power to kill other people, whether in defense of life or liberty.

So even if what he claims was true--it's not; it's ludicrously false--it would have no bearing whatsoever on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

First, good luck finding one. Second, you need to do a little homework. The only tubular magazines that were exempted from being considered LCAFDs by the unSafe Act if holding more than seven rounds are .22 rimfire guns. Starting 15MAR13 you will no longer be able to buy a traditional cowboy action lever gun in popular pistol calibers unless the fixed, tubular magazine has been permanently modified to accept no more than seven rounds. Crazy chit, but that's what you get when politicians pass laws in the dark of night behind closed doors....
