Gday from NZ, plenty of us over here on Buells and sifting through the glory that is BadWeb! I love my 06 Ulysses and through this site I have made a down payment on what will be the only XB12XP Police bike in NZ...as soon as i get it here.
The best quote i have is Mainfreight $575USD from LA (cali) to NZ. I'll pay about $300USD to 'receive' it also. The big issue is getting the bike from Wisconsin to LA. Road freight is killing me! Any suggestions aside from someone riding it? Must be transported, CHEERS IN ADVANCE

I've only had to ship a bike once here and had good luck with U ship.com. It's a site that allows yo to get bids from shippers and this drives the cost down pretty effectively. You will get ridiculous high bids at first but after a bit of time, they start to get cheaper. A shipper can potentially put a bike on a load going to the same general area and charge less this way. The bad news is that anyone with a truck is bidding to serve you. The good news is that you can get some history on each bidder including feedback from past customers. The shipper has no control over the feedback except to make the customer happy. You can communicate with them before you make a deal with them too.
It worked just fine for me. I had a bike shipped from Oregon to Michigan for about $300. It arrived on time and in good shape. The shipper communicated with the receiving party prior to arrival and it was a painless deal.

The trick to U Ship.com is to not get in a hurry, hold out till you find the right shipper at the right price. Be clear about what you need with the proposed shipper and do check out their feedback thoroughly. Don't agree to hire a shipper until you are confident about them. Also, leave feedback honestly for them one way or the other. It's important for them as well as for any future customers.

I've heard some horror stories from others but if you do this right, it works.

I personally think that "Shipping Wars" is killing the reputation of U-ship with the morons they show on TV. I have used Fed-Ex freight and R&L carriers both with great success. Price was resonable also. A guy who shipped bikes alot said that a dollar a pound was a fair guess to cost.

Panhead_dan & 6gears, thanks for your advice. I will look into Uship, but also fedex and R&L. A Uly weighs 480lbs, and that would be a max price id b willing to spend, so long as i was very confident it would arrive safely! Not sure what to do about luggage etc, as that could easily get scraped up. Might try to put get some plastic anti-scratch film on side panniers etc.

Anyone else have a suggestion different from these informative fullaz?

Forward Air

They supply a heavy duty steel container, and you can load up the extra space with whatever you want.
