Rode Palomar Mtn today with a couple friends and was surprised to find 3 buells at the top! Plus, while I was talking to the owners another one showed up. 5 in total, it was like a small buell gathering. My X1, an 1125R, and 3 XB12R.

You're in SCAB territory! Also... So Cal Buell Riders are known to haunt the region. Been a couple years now... last time I was there was on a SCAB ride and it was all covered in snow. When we rode down to Anza Borrego it was 103 degrees! |

Yes. The road was constructed just to get the mirror up the mountain. Now it's mostly a playground. I miss it a lot. |

Pwnzor, SCAB territory? So Cal area Buells?? It seemed like most of the guys up there weren't on Badweb. That was my first time out there and it was an awesome stretch of road. It also gave me plenty of reminders that my X1 could use an aftermarket shock. |

If you're looking for something to do on Saturday, Feb 09, there is a Memorial Poker Run for Austin Smithers, a SCAB member R.I.P., starting at Biggs, San Marcos at 9 am. The purpose of the PR is to raise funds to purchase a Memorial Brick on the Plaza at Laguna Seca in his behalf. I can't think of a more worthy cause to go for a ride. |

Free BBQ as well, what more could you ask for. Don't forget your tasselled jacket Wilson. It snowed all night here & forecast says more snow on & off all week, so the M2 is stuck in the garage. Again! |

SCAB = Southern California Area Buellers, which is a separate group from SoCal Buell Riders. Both groups can be found on Meetup.com. SCAB is headed up by the likes of Al Lighton of American Sport Bike and Eric Barrows aka Ebear... good people, experienced riders, great times to be had. |

I just joined SCAB, hope to participate in an event soon. It will probably be the biggest group of buells I have been around ever. |

Some additional SCAB info. The meetup site is http://www.meetup.com/Southern-California-Area-Bue llers-SCAB Most SCAB rides are a bit more sporting than the one that will occur this Saturday. We don't normally do the Poker run type things, but this one is different because it is a fund raiser for Austin's memorial brick at Laguna Seca (related post http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/695610.html#POST2271002 ). It's going to be a cool day by SoCal standards, highs in the mid-50s, so dress accordingly. SCAB rides are generally safer than most group rides I've participated in prior. We don't ride slow by any means, we have some pretty fast riders in our midst. But we emphasize that everyone rides their own ride and collect folks together at break points so that folks don't feel the need to ride faster than they're comfortable with. And we have a few rules with regard to passing and such that keeps the real stupid stuff from happening. But we've had a few get-offs on the rides (they tend to be riders that are riding with us for the first time for some reason), but no serious injuries to date (knock on wood). This one will also be a short ride by SCAB ride standards. Because our members are from all over SoCal, most SCAB rides cross at least 4 county lines and it's a rare ride that doesn't put at least 250 miles on the clock. The biggest single day SCAB ride crossed 7 county lines (San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Kern, San Luis Obispo, Ventura, Santa Barbara, about 500 miles). Some day we'll do the big kahuna that will add San Bernardino and Riverside to that to get nine in. During the course of the year, we'll typically do a San Diego ride that covers mountains and desert, a Big Bear ride, a Malibu ride, a Lake Hughes/Lake Elizabeth ride, a Glendora Ridge ride, an Idyllwild ride, but we're always looking for new places to go. We've done Angeles Crest but tend to stay away from it because it is too highly patrolled by chippies with an attitude. We've done rides to Joshua Tree, and a two day ride to the lower Sierras as well. We also host a few dirt biking days in the desert, as well as a few track weekends. SCAB hosts 3 camping sites on the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca for MotoGP every year, and we have 2 sites this year for the AMA/World Superbike event there in September this year. The two day ride up there each year is usually an epic adventure. We generally do rides on the first weekend of even months, and have a meeting at Lucille's BBQ in El Toro on the first wednesday of odd months. Al |
