I am planning on replacing my cam chain guides on my '09 1125R since my bike is parked for the winter. What all do I need to replace? ie what gaskets or seals or what ever? I already know someone will say the cam chain guides so besides those. The bike has 23268 miles on it. |

Look. You and Milt don't read too far. Badweather Bikers Forum has many sub-categories. The Quickboard is for people who are passionate, or just routinely pissed off, about guns, guns to buy, being taken away or ammunition, from Obamanation, and stuff. Sometimes we ride. Used to be Buells. If you scroll down (rhymes with troll drown), you'll find what youneeed. |

Actually the quick board is for anything not just what squid thinks its for. There is a reason its called the "quick board". And it disrespectful for you to sit there and not know who I am and call me a troll. |

Squids has a point though - you're most likely to find a model-specific answer...on that model-specific board. Target audience and all that. Quick Board is supposed to be for non-specific posts, or posts that would otherwise be "homeless". |

Just funnin' a little- I try to add that to the QB from time to time. Mort has posted about a half-dozen times here about the Loki platform he just acquired, instead of the 1125 board, I figured I'd just keep it real. Yeah, I've got a weird sense of humor. |

Why replace cam chain guides? That's a new one on me. Me too, if the guides need replacing, I'd be thinking that there's something not right in that motor! |

Why replace cam chain guides? That's a new one on me. There was a post a few years back either Anonymous or from someone with some authority that suggested a good time to change the cam chain guides to the newer version was during a valve lash check. Best info I can find as to why, 1313 |

Thick skin here so no problems here. I know there are some that have a "different" since of humor lol. The only reason I'm thinking of replacing the guides is the updated version is usually better than an original version due to things learned. I have no mechanical reason. The recall only included the 2008 1125R and 2009 1125CR and it only replaced the rear guide. I just don't know why the guide on the '09 CR and R would be different and both models not need the recall |

Keep in mind I haven't done this, but it looks like it would be both side covers (clutch and alternator) at a minimum. The valve covers are rubber and should be re-usable. From what I can see, the heads don't need to come off, but I could be wrong. Instructions on what/where you need to be are in section 3-12 of the manual I have. The easiest way I see to do this job is pull the frame off. I would HIGHLY recommend getting a manual if you don't have one already. |
