i have mixed feelings on this. and nothing is set in stone yet, only assumed "This all points to the likelihood that EBR is tooling up production of its bikes in India at one of the 3 plants owned there by Hero" This is just assumption, nothing fact yet. if true a) i want to laugh more at all of the people who bitched and moaned about HD using CKD places in India etc b) i am saddened by the fact Buell would be made in a place NOT America. But again, this is the authors assumption, nothing official has been released yet. |

Wondering how many people in India and Asia would buy a US made EBR bike with 200 to 300% import duty (think of a $120,000 EBR) Why do you think Honda set up Hero in the first place? That being said, if you had a choice to buy a $20,000 or a $30,000 EBR - which would you buy? I'm just saying. In this country, cheap rules. |

I want EBR to give American companies a fair seat at the table, just like Buell always tried to do. Hero appears to do some things really well, and we could learn a lot from them and leverage it for a significant advantage. I'll be disappointed if we don't leverage some of Hero's talent and resources... I want my next bike to be an EBR bike, and I want it to be the best bike possible. If Hero can do something better, then they should be doing it. |

Based on my experiences when I visited EBR just after Christmas, I'd be VERY surprised if anything EBR ends up NOT being built in East Troy, Wisconsin, US of A. Sure, down the road some, I think an EBR-branded Hero product coming to the USA could be a possibility. But I would suspect this would be something unlike a sportbike, meant to garner market share and expand/diversify the product line - i.e. in addition to the bikes produced in East Troy. But all of this is pure speculation on my part. Just my thoughts... 1313 |

come on guys...really...you really think they will be made in india?? After how much Erik takes pride in an AMERICAN MADE SUPERBIKE...I mean come on...all it said was TOOLING, which means that potentially molds, and production tools...this does not mean that they will be made in India. Let's use our heads here guys, EBR is and will forever be AMERICAN MADE. Jake |

"predominantly" American made.. is fine by me.. I mean really, lets keep the costs reasonable to remain affordable.. sure miss Mr. Canfield and his cryptic posts.. ie "toeing the tracks".. they always added a wonderful element of suspense |

there biggest motor is currently sub 300cc's .... they will need to do quite a bit of changing to get into the sport bike arena... now a dirty scrambler or sumo - well hell - they are all but set |

Reason, logic, and knowledge of the man. The existence of such principles and information never stops folks on the internet from being silly. |

They make jaguar and land rover as well.I have learned some things about the Indian and Chinese markets lately and they are good things and I wouldn't really care if they were made in India. I wouldn't pay $20K if it were I would want to see it at 12/14 for that type of product. I was only thinking of when I was concerned about it I got a ton of NO WAY that is gonna happen and IMO thats thinking with your heart not your business side. So it is what it is until I hear otherwise from EBR racing. |

If Buell's could be made on an assembly line in the exact same buildings that EBR is in right now, Why would they not make them here? |

I truly think the 1190 series will be built here in the States for now at the very least. The Inian market is really really really BIG so it makes money sense to build there Hero delivered some 6 million units thats about 5,750,000 more than Harley did last year. So going there makes sense business wise but the American market is where the 1190 is gonna live IMO. |

Hero is going to be building bikes that were designed by EBR, the same way they are building bikes that were designed by Honda. Where those bikes will be sold and under what brand, I'll just let you speculate. |

Thats the more interesting question... would you buy a bike designed by EBR and built by Hero? I would. I just bought a TTR125 as a "hand to anyone for the day" bike. $500. It's a piece of crap, but a durable, entertaining, and reliable piece of crap. I love it. Give me a $1000 scooter, and I might even ride it to work and around town. It won't replace the Uly, but at $1000, it doesn't need to. |

Anyone with a Tuber will be used to seeing "Buell American Motorcycles" that's a huge part of Buell's reputation, I doubt Erik would discard that at this point. Sure some of the parts may come from the Hero tie-up, but XB parts came from all over the world so what's new? |

Wondering how many people in India and Asia would buy a US made EBR bike with 200 to 300% import duty Wondering how many people in India would buy an EBR bike that any of us would be interested in, regardless of where it's made. As was mentioned, the Indian market is massive, but all they buy is cheap, small displacement commuter bikes. I don't think a liter-class sportbike in any dress will ever make a significant dent the Indian market anytime soon. That said, if by chance those 1190-esque bikes are built in India, they can take my name off the list. I love Eric's machine's, but there is too much good stuff from other marques (namely European) that I'd rather get involved with at that point. I'm very interested to see what the "X" model is, but if it's Indian-built I'd rather just pick up a used Uly, take an MTS1200 for a test ride (ugly, but an excellent bike), or check out the upcoming new KTM ADV model which will be pretty close to the Duc in terms of performance and equipment. At the end of the day, I'd imagine that Eric learned a lot from his torturous relationship with Harley, I can't see him getting into bed with anyone that deeply again. |
