The Cherohala Skyway, one of the premiere motorbike roads in the country, has collapsed. It could be months before the mile high legend reopens. http://www.grahamstar.com/articles/2013/01/17/brea king_news/doc50f86f49a2530449359649.txt |

That sucks! At least it sounds like no one got hurt. |

Another great road in the area, Newfound Gap Road (US 441) from Cherokee to Gatlinburg, suffered a similar fate this week- something like 200 feet of it collapsed. http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/b4186f39a3bc 456caa392239701e6439/TN--Smokies-Landslide 441 is a very cool road but unfortunately is usually bumper-to-bumper with cagers in the warmer months. The coolest thing about 441 is that it actually loops over itself at one point:

that sucks! that was one of my favorite roads that I'd ever ridden on. I was on it a couple years ago, before that I'd never even heard of it. Early March, so werent many people out, just a few cars here and there. It was just a fun road, lots of curves but they just flowed so well. loved it. |

Best 3rd gear 80 mph twisties on the east coast (don't ask me tho, i drive within the limits of the law!) I don't suppose it will be ready before dragon VI. Oh well, hope they throw a new curve or three in with the repair |

On the other hand, if it is open up to where it is closed, an "up and back" run could be a lot less obstructed with site see-ers crawling along without considering the use of one of the many pull-offs. |

Yeah, read about it this morning... it'll be a good while before either road gets re-opened. FWIW, the roads to Reliance TN from Tellico Plains and back are a great, fun, and twisty alternate route- plus, the last leg back to Ducktown TN and TN68 runs next to the Ocoee river... also, TN 360 to/from Tellico Plains is a hoot to run through! And, dangit, now that I'm thinking about it all, I gotta get something besides my GL1000 to REALLY enjoy those roads again... |

On that last note, MC daily has a story about Honda releasing a supermoto version of the CRF250 this year... |

...if Vern wasn't doing all those damn wheelies on that road, it probably wouldn't have collapsed... |

It wasn't ME!!! Heck, I didn't even know it happened! My internet connection had died a couple of weeks ago and I finally got an ATT supervisor who had an IDEA who actually fixed it this evening. I apparently had nothing else to do for about six hours over the last couple of weeks. BadWeB is my news source after all. Wheelie.....I think it was more the packing for March Badness and Buelltoberfest for the past few years! Sucks for sure. We are running out of mountain passes that are open. |
