Hello Everyone! My name is Mort. I live in Coral Springs, Florida. Picked up a 2009 Buell 1125CR with 2800 miles on it yesterday and no warranty. Per Vin number, sub harness and cam chain tensioner recall work has been done.
10 mile ride home yesterday was fine but:

1. this morning bike won't start - battery very weak and battery light stays on, after a jump start bike started and no battery light on and voltage reading in at 12 then droped to mid 11's at idle and red battery light came on and battery too weak to start bike. I am hoping it is just a bad original battery. Don't have a shop manual. I will figure out how to get the battery out and replace, praying it is not a charging system problem.

2. A bit of coolant coming out of what appears to be a small weep hole around what I believe is the water pump housing. Will try to check coolant level. Does this mean I have a bad water pump seal?

Would sure appreciate any help or advice, want to ride this thing so bad today!!
Please email me at mgelberd@aol.com or call my cell at 1-561-301-9819
thanks so much!! Mort

If the voltage is that bad, it's a problem in the charging system. 1125's are not my forte, but it sounds like stator and/or regulator problems. I think there was a stator problem on these...

If the waterpump is leaking from the weephole, it's time for a new one.

Welcome. I think stator problems were common on some of the 1125 models. There's a section here specifically for the 1125 bikes. You will probably get the best help for your problem there. Here's a direct link... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/290431.html?

BTW, save the money on the battery for now. It it was charging, it would show 14.x volts while running.

I would remove the harness fix it's real quick and see if the volts jump up on the display to 13-15 if they do replace the relay in the harness if not it's probably stator time.

this is a video on how to disconnect it. The water pump may be because it was sitting keep it under observation.

easiest first. you cant go wrong putting a new batt in and see.
best case- prob fixed
worst case- prob not fixed but now you know its not the batt. and you prob could use a new batt anyway.
good luck and welcome to your new addiction

Almost as easy is to charge the battery and have it load tested. Even if the battery is bad, there seems to be charging problems based on low voltage while running. That needs to be traced to it's source.

It was the battery. Charging system checked out fine at 14 Volts around 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. Sub-harness recall fix done by prior owner. All good now. Was getting a good bit of coolant leaking out of the water pump weep hole but that has now diminished to just a couple drops. Hoping it was just that the bike was sitting a lot with only 2,800 miles since 2009 and the seals got a bit dry. Keeping an eye on it but it has almost stopped. Anything special that can be put into the coolant that can help it? At any rate with only a couple drops after 100 mile ride, I will wait until the 12,000 spark plug change before rotating the engine as long as the leak stays the same.
Thanks for the advice folks! Mort

Glad it was something simple & relatively cheap.

BTW, did you know that your name means Death in French?

Next time I'm reading a French repair manual & it says "Danger de Mort" I'll be thinking of you.
