I'm thinking pretty seriously about riding down to New York to see the Motorcycle Show at the Javitts Center. Is there anyplace close to the Javitts to park my bike for free? I know that it used to be free to park there, but the last time I went (two years ago) they were doing some construction or something, and the parking area was not available. Is the free parking back; or is it a permanent change? |

Don't think there's any on site. Google NYC Parking and somewhere in there is a guide to on-street parking which is somewhat difficult to decipher and inaccurate. Also, the closest streets shown are at least one block away and you will find when you get there that all spaces are taken. As an example, one area shown is around the nearby McD's but that is really a taxi staging area. Try parking there and you'll be followed by a bunch of screaming Indians (not the American type). That being said, I have seen bikes parked around the block south of the Center on 34th,11th and 33rd but that's a crap shoot. I'm thinking get there early, drive around looking for other bikes and try to squeeze in next to them. Which day are you thinking of going? I just got the bike back together and was thinking of Sat. if the day starts above 20 degrees. Right now they're talking deep freeze next weekend so I don't know about that. Still going though. |

The past couple of years there was free parking (on Sunday, anyway) on a cross street across the street from the center. I'm counting on that being available again this year. |

Forecast for both Saturday and Sunday in Manhattan is sunny and in the forties (much colder at night). |

I've been watching the weather, and it looks like Saturday will be my best option. Clear and temps in the 40s both in New York and Massachusetts. I was going to go on Friday, but with highs in the 30s and lows in the low 20s, I think Saturday is a better choice. I'll get an early start and get to the show early. When I leave, I'll have time to swing by the Dinosaur and get a great lunch to fortify me for the ride home. This is going to be fun! |

Personally, I wouldn't bother. I took the chinatown bus for $15 the last time. I hate driving/riding in NY,NY. |

I would rather ride in the cold in New York on a motorcycle than be warm in a bus. I really hate traveling by bus; even if it's cheaper. Of course, I'd rather ride in the warm on a motorcycle, but I have absolutely no control over the weather. |

Crusty, if you go on Sat. you'll have plenty of company at the Dino. Should be a few familiar faces at the show about 9 - 9:30. What route are you taking down? |

Crusty, first rest area on the W. Cross in North Haven is brand new and has a Dunkin inside. If you're there around 7:30ish pull in for a minute, I might be grabbing something to start the day. |

Keep an eye out for me as well; I'll be on the silver Moto Guzzi Norge. By then, I'll probably want a cup of Dunkin's. |

Anyone there today? Apparently, Victory is unveiling a "Parts Bin Special" (a la Harley Davidson) as a "Brand New Model." |

Wouldn't it be nice for a manufacturer, just once, to be brutally honest, & actually call it a "Parts bin special". Nothing wrong with PBS that's how the Suzuki Bandit was born. Wish I was going with you all too but I'm stuck here in the snow & just got laid off again, grrrrr. Time to go shovel some white stuff, enjoy your day & be safe. |

I went to the New York show, today. I had a great time. I got a chance to see and hear Burt Monro's Land Speed Record bike start and run. I saw a pretty good assortment of MotoGP bikes. I listened to Kevin Schwantz and Scott Russel talk about racing I managed to avoid the snake oil salesmen with their magic eyeglass cleaner, or the slick tool salesman who could remove a totally boogered up bolt with his miracle pliers. I tried on a number of different helmets, looked at Dunlop RoadSmart 2 tires, talked to the folks at Gerbings about the problem I'm having with my heated jacket liner. I drooled over the Bimota DB7 (Show Special Price - 28K) I also drooled on the MV Agustas. The Italians sure know how to build motorcycles with Panache. I looked at a number of different winter gloves, and sat on a few neat motorcycles. When we left the show, a bunch of Buell riding friends and myself all went up to 125th St. to the Dinosaur BBQ and had a meal that couldn't be beat. The temps were very pleasant for January (it was 55 Deg. in NY when we left), which made the ride home nice. I got to ride 400 miles and see the New York Motorcycle Show. What a great way to spend a Saturday in January! Jaimec; we parked on one of the cross streets (36th? 37th?) about 2/3 of a block from the Javits, and had no problems |

I ended up parking on 37th street about a half a block from the Javits Center. No problem. Around 1:00 the crowd was just STUPID, so I left and headed up town to the Dinosaur for a Pork-Sket sandwich. Ended up bringing home a rib dinner for two afterward. Oh, and a fresh bottle of Wango Tango BBQ sauce (my last bottle went bad when Sandy knocked out our power for a week). |
