A Connecticut real estate blogger and citizen who was PISSED OFF by the New York Journal News group publishing names and addresses of LEGAL gun owners (also reported by New York Times) has published the names/addresses and personal information for News staff - reporters, editors, circulation, ANY staff whose records are researchable/findable. Cute, but will it all end with every home in the area being pointed out for something or belonging to someone?  That will eventually water down the maps. Twas' definitely a tacky thing to do by a news paper to promote their point of view on gun ownership. But damn it.....if they could only list the ILLEGALLY owned gun owner homes.....then they would have something. By publishing the homes with registered guns, you also publish all the un-defended homes for burglars to rob. I see dumb people. Odds are there are way more homes protected by illegal guns or unregistered guns(it is NY State you know). You would think that that list might give criminals a location for stealing guns, but they don't necessarily want registered guns in their possession, that would link them to their crimes. | ||

The newspaper editors are responsible for any criminal activity re: the theft of these weapons, and the use after theft. I'd sue them if I was on their published list. And move. I'd sue them for that too. Almost all guns are traceable to some point. The .38 Colt found next to Hillary's lawyer in the park was last legal in 1938. It wasn't his gun. He had a permit and multiple guns. The gun found by his body was a drop gun. No one knows what gun killed him. In any event almost all guns captured by the police from criminals is traceable to the theft from the legal owner. It usually passes through multiple hands on the way to police attention. | ||

I wonder how big of a can of worms would legislation be regulating the locking of such said weaponry. I lock all my guns all the time I am away from home, and unlock when I'm home. When I have kids, I'm going to keep them locked and have a separate finger safe with a handgun for quick access. What can we do to prevent guns reaching the wrong hands? It's not enough. Less than half of my gun owning friends have a safe. Is it not our burden to keep them from reaching the wrong hands, whether it be the children's, or a felon's? I understand I'm a bit off topic, but why don't the democrats and republicans create solutions with an actual bit of universal sense instead of doing irrational things like calling all semi-auto guns assault rifles, or signing petitions to secede their state out of the union if gun legislation is passed? We really need to get our heads out of our asses and start working towards a solution. More ideas=More chances of success. Maybe I should go get my law degree and dress nice, and go sniff my own farts in the white house. Eh, no, I know I would get assassinated for speaking actual sense, or dismissed as a crock because my dad had a brief mental episode a number of years ago(somehow destroying my credibility in a shallow and generally stupid public's eye). | ||

Funny thing is that only hand gun owners are on the list as there is no permit for long guns, so its a crap shoot for the criminals who think they can hit the homes not on the list. | ||

As the judge said, the criminals who were sentenced by judges (such as she) now have her home address. Witnesses who helped put violent felons in jail are now listed - so they are now known to the felons or the crime syndicate (assuming they're not covered by witness protection) I like First Amendment's freedom of the press/speech EQUALLY to the freedoms guaranteed in the Second Amendment. I just wish freedom would handled with SOME responsibility. | ||

Malott442;I have 5 grandchildren ages 18 to 20 months;they are all taught from a very early age that guns are not a toy and they are NOT to touch them.Just like you teach them not to touch a hot stove or play with a knife.Gun safety should be taught in school as well as at home.Although the 20 month old is too young to understand,the older kids can be trusted to leave a gun alone if its in reach.they also go target shooting regularly so they understand the power of a gun.This is a very effective way of teaching children why they should not play with a gun. | ||

I'm not so sure about gun safety and schools being something feasible (thanks to the anti-gun crowds), but personal responsibility and education is the absolute first thing that should be on everyone's minds, right? The children hit a certain age where you can really trust them, but even then ultimately there is a catch 22 concerning being absent. God forbid an intruder shows up in your absence and a child uses the gun to defend themselves= great situation! Intruder shows up when no one is home and easily steals the guns that aren't locked up securely= bad situation! There is a HUGE gray area of what age, what qualifications a minor has in defending the home from intruders. Also, there is no legislation or guidelines into what sort of mental state in minors or adults would be a precursor for certain types of violence. I worry about the next year. 2013 will be a memorable year to us all, I am betting. Changes are in the works, and I'm among those unhappy with were we know it's going. The listing of the addresses of all the gun owners is ridiculous. Truly idiotic! |
