First one to correctly ID all the cartridges wins big respect and admiration. : D

Can you identify the cartridges?

Ahh the 7.62x54R, my favorite rifle round. Huge muzzle blast in broad daylight. Don't see these too often.

Hints:

Stripper clip in background is populated with same cartridge as 2nd from right, which has so far stumped everyone.

Sixth from left is no shot-shell, and is a live round, bullet included.

Louis (99Savage) has best score so far at 6-1/3 hits out of 11.

I think Byrdock has them right except I think the .303 is a 7.62x54R Russian.
The one on the left might be a .380 or a makarov. I can't tell.

Bydrock scores 7 of 11 (Actually 7 of 10 since the hint about the stripper clip, but bonus for naming the clip's assoc. firearm.)

Aesquire ups that to 8-1/2.

Hint: 1st on left: JB08

(used to have a '95 Chilean Mauser in 6mm - weirdest dang action - cocked on OPENING the bolt)

The 6.5 grendel has the same overall length as the .223.

I'm stumped on the left one, 9mm makarov or .380 ACP?

jramsey's got some weird ones.

How about this?

guess

I only knew about it because you've talked about it before.

Blake's list is a tough one. Some of those aren't exactly standard fare at the range.

Patrick,

You've regressed. Fallen back to 7-1/2. But wait, your getting warmer. Can't believe the hint earlier didn't give it away for you. Russian brand with steel case may be confusing.

1st on left 2nd hint: John B 1908

5th on left hint: Rusky take on JB'11 but with some added innovations; also case marking same as abbr. for famous deadly IOM motorcycle race.

Far right hint: 1906

At some point each round has been correctly identified, but not in any single post.

From L to R:

1) .380 FMJ RN (Russian-made Tulammo steel cased, cheapo Walmart ammo, very unreliable in a Ruger LCP.)

2) 9mm Lugar FMJ FN (Case has marking "F C"; found it at the pistol range. Only flat nose in 9mm Lugar I've seen. Home load?

3) .40 S & W JHP (180 gr Federal HST, law enforcement surplus, superb defensive round, very cost effective when you can find them, like $23/box of 50.)

Why are most (virtually all) .40 S&W FMJ bullets of the flat-nosed (FN) form? To help avoid confusing with 9mm and .45 ACP, which in FMJ are virtually all round nosed (RN)?

4) .45 ACP (230 gr +P Federal HST HP "Premium" retail version gets you the nickel plating.)

5) 7.62x25mm Tokarev FMJ RN (85 gr Serbian-made "prvi partizan" (PPU), high velocity 1,650+ FPS pistol round)

6) 7.62x38R Nagant FMJ FN (Russian surplus, really intriguing gas-sealing revolver round; revolver & cartridge date all the way back to 1885.)

7) .357 Magnum JHP (125 gr Winchester Silvertip HP)

8) .223 Rem FMJ (found at range all crusty black with a light strike on the primer)

9) 7.62x54R Steel Core, Lead Encased FMJ (147 gr Soviet surplus, half-century+ old, corrosive, same cartridge in use since 1891. Still in use today. I'm curious how much mild steel it can penetrate. I know the lead core .30-06 at close range will go straight through 1/2" A36 structural steel plate like it was butter.

10) .30-06 (180 gr Rem "Core-Lokt" pointed soft point)

11) the stripper-clip is populated with the 7.62x54R described in #9 above. Loading the clip into the rifle upside-down makes first round's rim catch on rim of round below; big problem if in a hurry to shoot.
