quote:Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence … From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good. -George Washington

I remember him from when he was a football (soccer) commentator on the BBC. I left the UK before he came out with his "off the wall' ideas (c1990, I think.) As I said, I haven't looked closely at what his beliefs are. I do try to keep an open mind regarding anything anyone says but the consensus is that he is bonkers. |

The demonstrated incompetence of the ATF is just beyond comprehension, especially considering this happened after the Fast & Furious Fiasco. IDIOTS! http://www.jsonline.com/watchdog/watchdogreports/a tfs-milwaukee-sting-operation-marred-by-mistakes-f ailures-mu8akpj-188952581.html |

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/02/01/lawmake rs-call-for-probe-into-botched-atf-sting-in-milwau kee/?test=latestnews I'd like to point out that the Journal Sentinel Article properly uses the daily buzzword. "military style". "Military Style" is the latest bullcrap phrase to con ignorant or stupid people into supporting "reasonable gun control" ( another planned buzz word ) Please note that "reasonable gun control" works as follows. I want your stuff. You don't want to give it to me, so I''ll be reasonable, and only take half. Today. See ya tomorrow. While I admit we need some agency to collect the sin taxes they have put on booze and cigarettes, BATF is really out of control. The guys who get it worst, ( after the Citizens the agency assaults and robs ) are the guys who really want to be good cops, and get their lives destroyed when they tell the truth about what their bosses are doing. |

"While I admit we need some agency to collect the sin taxes they have put on booze and cigarettes, BATF is really out of control" "get their lives destroyed when they tell the truth about what their bosses are doing." Patrick (Aesquire), agreed 100% and we must then ask; who are their commanders, who is giving them orders and more over, just who is the ultimate Commander in Chief and policy dictator? Take a wild a** guess. |

Patrick, absolutely correct when you "follow the money" and THAT IS the bottom line isn't it. Sad but true. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Soros http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Soros_conspira cy_theories It may be that poor George... I mean owns gold by the ton and destroys nations to make a profit George, is unfairly attacked. I actually agree with some of his ideals, taken in isolation. As a whole, his support of leftist groups that are constant sources of propaganda and lies makes him not my favorite person. To say he owns Obama is not really true. Not.... really. Much as I'd like to blame all the worlds problems on a single super rich foreign lefty, I don't think I can. |

A supposedly rational view of the subject. http://www.law.uchicago.edu/files/files/67-harcour t.pdf A less rational view. I suppose having armed men round up your folk and kill them by the millions gives you a bias. http://jpfo.org/ A note on "high capacity" magazines. First, mostly we are actually talking normal capacity magazines. Second, the average home assault involves multiple guys breaking in and beating, raping and stealing. ( in that order ) The average street gang confrontation seems to be 6 bad guys on one. The cliche, "god made man, Sam Colt made men equal" referred to the fact that a reliable repeating fire arm took some of the advantage away from gangs of aggressive men willing to use force and violence to get their way, and gave a chance of survival to a single physically weak man or woman. Seriously, a 90 lb weakling, male or female, equipped with a muscle powered weapon vs. 6+ large armed men? Lose. ( except in extremely rare cases of martial arts experts... really rare ) The same situation with single shot derringers? The 5+ bad guys left kill the victim. lose. A slightly built woman with a Glock 17? Unless she's aggressive about leaving witnesses, a few of the gang are going to run away. Win. There are additional arguments that the .223 round used in the AR is a decent killing round, but not a good stopping round. ie. You may have given the attacker a mortal wound, but they still live plenty long enough to kill you. In that case, shooting the attacker more than once, until they stop trying to kill you, is the only way to survive. Why not use a bigger, more powerful gun? Small people, people who have been injured, folk who are differently abled, just can't carry and use a Semi auto Thompson M1. Or take the recoil of a .41 Magnum or 12 ga riot gun. The 223 is not about stopping and dropping - it is about debilitating and deterence. It is built from the notion that an injured man is more of a tax to the opposing force than a dead one..... not necessarily the case that bore out in Nam, and certainly if not so if used against the Chinese. But who knows what we may see it come to play domestically.... |

Long guns in typical centerfire rifle calibers are generally more powerful than even the best handgun calibers. The idea behind the 5.56mm over the 7.62 rifles was to carry a smaller, lighter weapon with a higher rate of fire and more ammo, not to wound instead of kill the enemy. |
