1984. Just the tech is different.

Instead of a tv and camera everywhere, we have cell phones. The internet.

we live in interesting times.

We should have a bit of perspective as we call for banning various types of weapons. I wonder how many people could correctly order what weapons cause the most deaths in our country from a list of - Rifles(that would include "Assault Weapons', Hand guns, Shot guns, Knives, Hands and feet. I find it interesting that rifles is at the very bottom of that list, yet a small subset of rifles is being targeted for a ban. The results will be negligible at best. At worst, we pushing a wedge issue in our country, that if you read the words of our Constitution, should never be allowed. This threat is selling more of these guns in preparation for an armed conflict than I could have imagined. I doubt demand for these weapons will stop until either the rifles are banned, or the issue is dropped. Until then they will sell as fast as they can be made. Probably not really what the anti-gun folks have in mind. Typical unintended consequences, blow back, or whatever you wish to call it.

Anyone dare to consider what all the recent purchased "assault weapons" are being stock piled for right now? That scares the crap out of me!

Ann makes her living being:
A. Really offensive to lefties.
B. giving her work titles that are really offensive to lefties, and sell well with righties.
C. Mostly being right.

She's right in this one.

well said.

polls and 'tudes.

"A federal ban on some 19 models of “assault weapons” was in effect from 1994 to 2004 and did not measurably decrease the incidence of mass shootings. Overall, the total U.S. homicide rate has fallen by over half since 1980 — which means that, despite the media focus on mass shootings, we are safer as a country than we have been in decades."

What is interesting to me is the chart with the question about the news media refusing to print or speak the names of the murderers. While I would not normally advocate such a restriction on free speech, it is a restriction that would affect only a tiny hand full of people in the country. A few dozen per city? Versus a restriction on another right on 300 million people, every single one of us.

"the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few" would seem to make that the proper path.

Still, I'm against it.

It would be VERY nice if the President's own Media direction group, the guys that meet every day to hand out the talking points that the White House wants to see on every news station ( and almost always gets, since mostly it's lies about R's and praise for Obama's policy & results ) would take a page from the book "Soft Targets" by Dean Ing.

In it a new approach to anti-terrorism is tried. The Major News outlets are convinced to never praise the actions of the terrorists, Never mention the grand cause the terrorist support. Most important, mock the terrorists as idiots and failures. "Perfect Charlie" ( IIRC ) is the British slang phrase used and all terrorist news reports use the new terrorist logo, an idiotically grinning madman with a cartoon bomb, fuse cut too short.

It might not work, it might do nothing, but THIS White House actually could get such an initiative going, while the previous one would have had no chance.

If there is EVER anything good to come out of the criminal collusion between this Administration and the willing minions in media, this could be it.

I think you mean,"A right Charlie". It's English slang for a fool.
