And yes...that lay-down tracked snowmobile flamethrowing thingy from OCC last year should not even have been allowed in the building.

I would have liked to see JJ working his hands as hard as he was working his mouth, maybe he would have finished on time. Funny how some one who didnt care what any one says about him spends so much effort saying so.......
that aside he still is an impressive craftsman and its always astounding to see what he creates.
My favorite was the GMG bike. Simple, down to earth, and is the core of what a chopper is, NOT a fantasy bike.
K.I.S.S.!!!!!

That VTX was one of 6 bikes that Honda commissioned JJ to build. 2 of them were shown and the other 4 were never revealed. The Fury is supposedly based on one of the bikes he built for them.

A couple things I noticed in the Jesse James build.

1. He used a 120" Harley Crate Motor
2. His early drawings/paintings of the bike with Harley Logos on the bike.

Why would Jesse have made some initial drawings of this "sportbike" with Harley logos on the bike?

This is a longshot, but would Harley be considering having Jesse build them a limited edition sportbike for future production? Other bike companies have used custom builders to do the same. Have you seen any of the Arlen Ness Victory bikes? It was just a thought, and it would not surprise me if Harley reached out to someone outside the MoCo and CVO teams to produce something like this.

My take on this was product placement for a donated engine from HD for his build.

That was what I took it as too. They went out of their way to show 2-3 Harley Logos, and they were sure to film Jesse making the trip to the local Harley shop to pick up his crate motor.

Anyone else would have had it shipped to their shop.

If the gas monkeys hadn't been invited I probably wouldn't have watched. I too do enjoy the fabrication part of the show but the camera never slows down enough to see things for what they really are.

I thought SN's bike had some great CNC work and interesting design. The front forks were definitely function over form. At least I hope they were cause they were butt ugly!!

JR's was a nice looking custom ride. Liked the look of the exhaust but doubt it would turn any good dyno numbers but then that's not what it's about.

JJ's bike did look like a Lightening at first glance. Once again, the camera's move so fast it's hard to get a good look at things. I like how he turned the tranny upside down and used it as part of the frame. He definitely had some great idea's but does it actually work?

I liked the Gas Monkey's bike. Not very "custom" but definitely the epitome of a real "chopper".

So if you're taking a bike to a "chopper" build off, why do you bring sport bikes? That's almost as bad as bringing a trike!

My take is that the entire thing was fixed from the get-go. The show wasn't about who was the best builder - here's why:

1) How much time was spent on the lead-up show discussing how the bike was built versus time spent talking smack and "pranking" each other?
2) The whole deal was set up like a rasslin' match. You got your golden boy (Jr.), your heel (JJ) and your underdog (Aaron - not Richard, cuz he never lifted a wrench). Not sure what Sr.'s character was...
3) JJ didn't care because he knew the fix was in.
4) For the final show, they had a goober announcer whose sole purpose appeared to be to try to provoke a fight - again, almost no time was spent actually discussing the particulars of the bikes. He didn't know if JJ made the comp, but sure knew about the 'fight' in the hotel the night before (I bet that didn't even happen)
5) No judging criteria other than a popularity contest - that is, if the 'winner' was actually based on votes (me thinks on-line votes were irrelevant). No performance criteria, lame.
I was stupid enough to watch that crap two years in a row - there's several hours I won't get back.

I say the entire thing was a sham for ratings only

I got the distinct feeling that Jesse was sucked into this thing by some sort of contractual obligation.

Jr and Sr are a couple of tools.

The other guys made a nice chopper.

We don't have TV so I've not seen any of these shows, pictures either.
Maybe someone can come up with a screenshot of the bikes?

I DVR'd it but missed the beginning and the end,.. but I got the impression they was all supposed to build some type of sportbike.. JJ said it,.. then also seeing Sr's bike being built.. confirmed my suspicion but then I saw the other two and got confused.

What were the rules of this build off??

To create as much suspense and drama as could be garnered by a production company. Sell adds.....make money.

No body cared what they built.

"No performance criteria, lame. "
it was a bike show, did you REALLY expect some sort of performance criteria?

just watched the results show portion on discovery (out of school for semester, lots of free time).
honestly I liked three of four of the bikes, didnt like JRs bike. Not my style. And while I wasnt crazy about the other three, I liked them.

I see some resemblence to Confederate in Srs bike.
Buell in JJ? Not so much.

I feel the same as many on here - what a waste of time. the movie trailers. fake drama. whatever.
Tonight is the last night of American Choppers. GOt to hand it to them, ten years is a long time on television.
Dont watch the show, wont miss it
